New Shakugan no Shana Anime in Development (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-06-01/new-shakugan-no-shana-anime-in-development-revealed)

I was assuming we wouldn't get anything after the second series, so I was very happy to read this.

Although this was all but implied a few months ago, my reaction is basically meh. I am happy though that Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu II is going to get an air date though.

Oooh, a nice surprise. I just finished the first series, and I really enjoyed it, especially after I'd written it off from an earlier trailer.

It's great news that there's going to be a new Shana anime. I'm desperately hoping that the second season (especially since I haven't seen it) and this new season that is being planned will get licensed for R1.

Edit: I noticed the article mentioned something about "Shana Project is restarting." Does this mean that mean the series is getting a reboot?

YES.

I was always all but certain they they could be continuing Shana, it was just a matter of "when" to me. I'm surprised it took this long for confirmation, actually. Though seeing that a lot of the staff was probably busy with Index (and the upcoming Railgun) made it more understandable.

Anyway, I can't wait. First season was great, second season was even better.

We need to pray that Nozomi Entertainment does not get season 2 or 3. That would be be awful and we would never see a dub. Lets go Funi!

Even if Funi getting it means that the season 1 dub cast will almost definitely not return?

You know, at this point I think people should be worried about if we'll see it at all. If Season two were going to be licensed, it probably would have been already. Odds just get worse every day. (I should add that the idea of a Nozomi release for Shana is orgasmically wonderful to me, but it'll never happen.)

The magazine which will announce that it's been green lit isn't even officially out yet, and you're worrying about this? It kind of has to get made first. ^^

I dunno. I think it's still got a decent chance of a Nozomi or Sentai release. It's not that old, and there's a good buzz about it.

Perhaps, although between the two I'd put more stock in Nozomi. Probably because I'm still waiting for Sentai to announce more new titles than just the three they started with.

I agree. I can't wait for new Shana goods to come out. I should definitely hit up one of the Japanese bookstores I go to see if they got in the new Degenki Bunko magazine that announced the third season (the cover is to die for as a Shana fan) and I want to see if it comes with any extras.

Well, I loved the first season, and bothered to import everything that hasn't yet been licensed (all first-press discs for Second, the movie preview disc, the movie LE, and the OVA LE before we knew the episode was in the R1 thinpak collection), so I guess I've been on board for this for a while now. :)

There's also the matter of artwork images that will start appearing. In any case, I'm going to take it one step at a time. First step is to hope the series itself will turn out to be good. Other steps comes later.

I'm happy to hear this news. Loved both seasons.

I'm also in the "hoping it continues where it left off" group. With a movie, it's okay, but I really don't want this to be a remake. Would check it out anyway.

I don't think we have any reason to fear a reboot at this point. Seasons one and two don't seem to have some even close to telling the whole story so they've got plenty more to go on with new material.

Without spoiling anything, they've made so many changes to the anime that continuing with the novel story at this point would take some major contortions and/or retcon to fit. That said, a good chunk of season 2 was entirely anime-original and was enjoyable in a fan service sort of way, so I wouldn't be opposed to them cooking up another mostly anime-original season.

Obviously it's not the popular opinion, but personally I'd really like to see them do a Full Metal Alchemist and reanimate the novel story line much more tightly.

Nozomi has not released anything dubbed as of late, but that does not mean won't be that way for everything. Even if they or ADV/Sentai pick it up that I am sure they will dub it in Vancouver. If Funi licenses it they definitely will do so. Shana II and Haruka Nogizaka's Secret would have been out a long time ago had Geneon USA still been around.

Eh, they can work it out, it won't be exactly like the novels, of course, but they can get the same basic storyline, with some changes.

No. While I'm watching the new FMA, and the redo of Kanon was definitely a good idea, I really don't think we should encourage Japan to make rehashing a series STANDARD

There's also another thing to consider here. In the case of Kanon, both the "original and the "remake" are complete series. Sure the second series is longer and more fleshed out, but the first still has a conclusion.

The second season of Shakugan no Shana was more of a cut-off point than an ending if I remember right. At the very least they made it clear that there was still plenty more story to be told. There's a lot of potential depending on what they decide to do.

Starting Shana over would mean throwing away everything that they took two seasons to set up. Sure, the idea of a more faithful adaptation is curious. Even so I'm less concerned with what could have been in a "What if" version and more concerned with what will happen next in the version that I'm already familiar with.

That sucks, horribly.Well, the only consolation is that the OVA could just be a way to keep the interest in the franchise from dying while they wait to do Season 3. My little theory is that they decided to strike while the iron was hot by doing a Railgun TV series, and just do a Shana OVA for now, rather than the other way around. So in the end, OVA aside, I take this to mean that they're just waiting for a bit more source material to do season 3.

That is..... disappointing. Very disappointing. Maybe they'll make up for it with amazing production values a little bit. I'd like to hope relentlessflame is correct. If they are trying to keep the show alive enough to continue down the road an OVA now while they are busy with other projects is the way to do it. The other side of the coin is this OVA is meant to close out the series. I guess we'll see.

Also, according to this (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-08/producer-plans-3rd-and-final-shana-series-after-s-ova), the producer plans to make the third TV series the final one.

I wonder if the next light novel is going to be the final one. I don't really keep track on light novel news, but the last novel (reading a summary of it) seemed interesting and things were building up to a major finale.

Maybe JC Staff might do an anime original ending if the light novels continue.

New season and OVA is good as more Shana merch should come out...which makes the collector in me jump for joy.
