Throughout the Galaxy Angel series, there are three recurring villains that show up from time to time in the episode plots, Patrick, Jonathan, and Gasteau. They generally look the same and have the same voice actor between their appearances, but they're often treated as separate characters when they show up again. They'll have different roles for example, and neither the Angel Brigade or the trio seem to act like they've met each other before despite showing up again and again.

So, it was kind of amusing when I was watching Koihime Musou lately, and there's pretty much the same exact thing there, with a group of three baddies that Kan'u and company tend to come across in some of the episodic plots there.

I'm wondering, since I've spotted two instances of the exact same, is there something like this in any other series? It had me curious at least. I was thinking it might be something that helps the animators, as they don't have to design new episode villains each time the situation calls and can bring in the same VA's again. It's also somewhat amusing to me, though. :)

Would Team Rocket count?

Would Team Rocket count?

No, because they're distinct and major characters. The series I mentions don't have those particular bad guys in every episode, and when they show up again, the heroes don't seem to recognize them as the same person as last time, and vice versa (certainly wouldn't be the case for Jessie, James, and Meowth, who are constantly after the heroes in order to steal the Pikachu :) )

The only ones that spring to mind aren't thugs. It's the three old guys in Cowboy Bebop. They always seem to have similar but slightly different stories and seem to have been in the area the currently occupy for years. I think I've seen something, but maybe it was just GA as well.

Grumble Grumble Grumble

So does Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny count???

And the CLAMP based series 'Tsubasa' is nearly all about alternate reality versions of the same characters...
