For eight episodes, I have been holding my breath that Gonzo will continue the excellent build and hoping their penchant for trying to do too many things at once would not come out. However, I fear that the other shoe may have dropped with this episode. I hope I am wrong, and at this point, I have come too far to give up on what we have seen. I look forward to seeing how it all falls out over the final few episodes, but I am a little more unconfident about the result than I was last week.

Great job on the reviews of Shangri-La so far!
I'm thoroughly enjoying the series so it's always nice to see more people enjoying it and I've enjoyed reading your critiques of the positives and negatives of the episodes so far and look forwards to the rest of your write ups. I hope you end up continuing to enjoy the show overall (and I hope I do as well lol. :)).
Just a heads up after reading your episode 9 review where you mention that we'll see how things come together in the last few eps. Fortunately they have plenty of episodes left to continue to make a really good story as, even though they've accomplished a lot already, we've still got 3 episodes to go before we even reach the halfway point towards what looks to be a big second half so it's not surprising there's a lot of different things going on. The Japanese DVD release is currently scheduled for 24 Episodes, 12 volumes at 2-episodes each as can be seen on cdjapan (the box in the limited edition volume 1 release on the Official Japanese series site also says it holds 12 volumes so it seems to be accurate).
Since you're main concern seemed to be worrying about them doing too many different things at once so late in the game this episode, I don't think you have much to worry about yet as they have plenty of time to do all of the stuff they've been developing proper justice, if they continue to do a good job on the series.

Thanks for the feedback! In all, it has been a blast so far. Glad to hear another person enjoying it! As you said, I hope it keeps bringing the goods.
As for the episode count, everything I saw up to a few weeks ago (when I stopped paying attention, of course ) suggested it ended at 12. And I have a bit of a history with Gonzo titles being great up until the end, so the complexity was worrying me once again. Now it seems that you are right and everything is updating to say it'll be 24. So I have updated my upcoming review for 10 accordingly. Doesn't make sense to rant about something that isn't true right? ;)
Thanks for the catch!
