In Summary:
Last Exile is a typical Gonzo title for me: a lot of excellence mixed with one uninteresting theme that hurts a bit more than I wish it would. I liked everything here, but I thought the search for Exile took a little too much time away from the conflict between the Guild and everybody else, especially considering that the outcome was too ‘poetic’ for my liking. Still, I would imagine that many would like this ending, and it certainly did not ruin everything else that I liked. Recommended.

I bought this about 4 weeks ago and I still haven't finished it yet. I don't find anything particularly WRONG with it, it's a very nice and handsome production, and I think the writing is generally pretty classy. But it's not a show where I find myself quickly reaching for the next DVD to keep going. I'll have to get around to finishing it to see what I think overall.

This release is sitting in my backlog, but I did give the first two episodes a watch and really liked what I saw. I have to agree that the packaging for this release is great. Aside from the flimsy box, the artwork for the covers and the discs are great, and the packaging saves space (which is rather important to me).

I really liked the series overall. But I'm somewhat of a sucker for shows with really neat black uniforms like this.

Last Exile wasn't a bad show. It starts off well and adds nice layers of complexity as it moves along. The ending, however, didn't really do that much for me, as I was left with a general feeling of "Huh? That's it?"
…
For those who like dubs and have not seen this show, it's a good one to pick up, with several good performances from the usual LA suspects.

It's been a while seen I've seen it, but I remember Last Exile as being pretty solid -- good, but not great. I agree with the sentiment that the ending was a bit "huh?"
I am, however, thankful for having it around to wash away the soul-crushing ending of "Texhnolyze", which is the series I watched right before it. (shudder)

There's probably something dirty here, but I don't think I want to know...

My thoughts exactly. I can't even remember the ending that well, to be honest. Still, it's a well made show for the time (Gonzo's first anamorphic show, I think) and the world the likeable characters inhabit is well realized for the most part. I recommend it as well.

I think a lot of people thought it. I also recommend it.

So far I'm really enjoying this title. It's not amazing, but it's very original. It has a nice mixture of action and drama, and the paceing is really good too. Oh and I really love the music in this! Top of the line music in this show! The characters are interesting too, but so far I feel like I don't know enough about the two main characters :anger200: . Seeing how they are the main characters you'd think they'd explain them a little bit right? That's my only real beaf with it, and it's not that bad of a fault. And I'm still not too far into it, so I guess I'll see what happens. Oh and I'm totally getting an Eureka Seven and Nadia feeling watching this show.
Nice review btw ;).

Hmm, that's good to know. Both of those are on my "Need to Watch Someday" list. So if you both get those vibes from Last Exile, then I would think I would be in good shape for Eureka Seven and Nadia.
Just out of curiosity, what about LE gives you those vibes?

I got a Final Fantasy vibe myself. Airships and "chocobos" will do that. ;)
Anyway, got the Geneon artbox+singles, and am loving it so far (up to episode 8).
