View Full Version : Killing women...do it?..don't?...where do you draw the line?

I don't kill women when playing Hitman (or any others), period. Only females I've had to are cyborgs as in Quake, zombies as in RE, or bosses (but even then use cheats to level-jump to avoid it).
Where do you all stand on femicide in games you play?

It's a plus for me. I'm more likely to buy games which favour killing women.
Seriously, I don't discriminate. I'm an equal opportunities murderer.
I'm all for gender equality. If I feel it's ok to kill a man in a game, same goes for a woman...

Nope. One digital character is the same as any other. E.g. Metal Gear Solid: Sniper Wolf is as fair game as Revolver Ocelot. And it doesn't matter to me in fighting games either.
As long as I am already performing what in real life would be sociably unacceptable actions, why let something like a computer generated gender stop me?

I really don't see the difference. I generally have no qualms with killing men, women or children if they happen to be evil and/or the game requires me to kill them such as in Hitman which you mentioned. And when I'm playing seriously, I generally avoid killing any kind of civilian even if I don't get penalized for it but do enjoy going on random massacres once in a while.
But in Deception 2: Kagero, a game I played many years ago, I was actually forced to kill an innocent little girl in order to advance and was very hesitant to do so. When I was unable to find a way to spare her life and progress through the game, I killed her in the most merciful way possible; by dropping a boulder on her head. She actually didn't turn out to be a little girl in the end though but an illusion in order to test if the main character I was controlling was evil and morally deficient enough.

Not really...unless the game forces me into it like in Deus Ex when you have to kill Anna Navarre, and that's only because she'll kill you if you don't kill her first

Distinguishing the line between reality and fantasy isn't that difficult. Not that I'll kill everything in sight, but for games, if it's an objective, then I guess there's really no way around it. As in Bioshock, I first 'saved' the Little Sisters. But if I have to 'harvest' them to experience the alternate story, then I wouldn't be uncomfortable doing so. Fighters? While not killing (aside from MK, Eternal Champions, Expect No Mercy, etc.) in essence a 'beating' could essentially be thought in the same regard...I have no problems defeating female opponents.

I always enjoyed bisecting the french maids in the first level of Bloodrayne 2.

Really, why would you not? I don't mean that in a sexist or mysoginistic way at all. In a fictional situation where you're 'killing' fictional enemies, their fictional gender doesn't factor into it at all. I'm not going to go and slaughter a bunch of men because I do so in games, so why should 'killing' some digital women make me do so in reality? I don't mean to be offensive but I think anyone who would go out of their way to avoid confrontation with video game women has some gender relation issues of their own to address.

I'm not into the idea of killing just for the heck of it, and I don't really play certain types of games.
However some of the games I have played have had both male and female enemies. As such I would defeat both. Because an enemy is an enemy. Granted whether or not defeat requires killing the enemy is another story.
Heck sometimes I'm playing as a female and beating up other females. Which is a given for one who plays RPGs, uses female members, and there's a good chance some of enemies will be female.
I wonder if it would be bad to point out that one time in Castlevania ~Portrait of Ruin~, I was leveling up by killing a bunch of female maids...
That being said, if I'm giving a choice between siding with the cute girl and the ugly guy, I'll side with the cute girl. Just because I can and for other reasons that should be a given.

I am a feminist (even though I enjoy anime!). I carry my favouritism for the fair sex from reality into video games.

they are not women... its polygons or textures on a wire frame or pixels...
kill em all no matter the shape or size... dont discriminate!
if it was real life and a woman or kid armed with a machine gun was after ya... would you just run away while an army of women and kids was gunning for ya? kill or be killed. its not like your putting them in the front lines.
If a guy was playing a female toon would it be ok to kill her then? but not ok if it was a female npc? or all good unless it's a real woman playing a female toon? how do you know its a real woman? voice online can be modified. if a woman plays a game where she is killing... just whack her if you come across her.
if the game allows you to kill other toons... and heck if the game is centered around killing. what is the hold up? if someone chooses to play a pk game... anything goes. if a game is designed around pve but allows pvp/pk then its up to you how you want to play. if a pk comes along and happens to be female (real life or in game) if you dont want to kill em then run if you can. but imo if they started it, then finish it if you can or survive at the very least. or you could be like hasaeo and be a pkk :) but if your ok with pk as long as the toon is male... you need to accept the fact that all characters in games are only ones and zeros in a digital sense and just have fun and kill em all since it doesnt matter since it isnt real.

But feminism - true feminism, that is - is about equality, not favouritism. To give preferential treatment to women, or in this case extending it to non-existant digital avatars of women, is actually sexist.

I just kill whomever I feel like whether they are a man or a woman.

While I prefer to use female characters to play, I really don't care who I'm killing. They are going to hurt me just as bad as any other enemy. In fact, in games like Dynasty Warriors is awesome to defeat the female characters with another female character. :D
I shoudl add that in Bioshock I did not let my hubby kill the girls.

And it's more properly called gallantry, not feminism.

On the contrary, I go after females moreso than males, especially in the GTA series.

Which incidentally is the Japanese sense of the word--I always get a giggle out of Touga in Utena calling himself a "feminist" on the Japanese track, when he's so clearly talking up his gallantry.
RE: video games, as long as I find the game entertaining, I'll kill what the game requires me to kill. Although I confess it would be a bit distressing if all the enemies were scantily clad bikini models or something.

I did electrocute the hell out of a woman in inFamous recently, though that was an accident-- silly thing should know not to stand in a puddle when I'm running through it. :P In general though I don't do a lot of killing in open world games outside of the missions.

Well in ninja gaiden I defeated alma just like i defeated the other bosses even though she is rachel's sister but she throw columns at you so you kinda have to beat her or you die ^.^;
but I prefer to play games that allow to be a female character and then take down everyone which is why I'm excited for bayonetta guns in shoes=longer combos=higher scores=more trophies.
other than in ninja gaiden though not many female characters that i actually fight though, I dont remeber any female characters in the first dmc you had to fight either so I cant say it was equal opportunity enemies in the house your fighting in lol

I actually used the killswitch from her computer, so I didn't have to kill her in combat. Another one that I did have to kill was Maggie Chow in VersaLife.
If the game doesn't have to force me to kill them or doesn't have any benefits to the storyline, then I leave them alone.

Its not something I really worry about. Its just a game after all. I usually play the good guys in games where you have a choice anyway, so if I do kill female enemies, they're generally the ones to attack me first.

I treat women the same way I treat any other digital character in a video game: Don't try to harm me and I won't do anything to you.

It's a rather silly question. It's just a video game after all. It doesn't really matter...

I kill whatever pixels are trying to kill me, or are otherwise needed to be killed to advance the storyline/get the good lewtz.
Whether it is male or female, human, elf, dwarf, lizard, goblin, ogre, alien, or some random slime, if it is in my way or has what I want, it's going to give it up one way or another.
Games are not real life. While I would not hurt someone weaker than me in real life, a video game is rather different in that you have to hit on things weaker than you. Hitting on things stronger than you in a video game typically results in you hitting the reset switch like it was a punching bag. Not to mention, it's just pixels. Just like Anime is drawings. There is a separation between the real and the imaginary.

OH yeah, I forgot though, I love to massively kill women in GTA. It just is more fun, but then again, I usually just shoot male characters in the crotch in GTAIV, just to see them limp away in terror.

Heh... what's the problem? If they're out to kill you, then it would be better to kill them first ;)
