Press Release

[HOUSTON, TX – June 22, 2009 – Today Anime Network, America’s #1 Anime Channel, formally launched its new online player at www.theanimenetwork.com (http://www.theanimenetwork.com/). Anime Network’s new online service includes over 40 hours of free content as well as a premium package that gives users unlimited access to more than 300 hours of anime, live action films, and J-rock videos.

Every week Anime Network Online refreshes its English-dubbed and English-subtitled programming with new episodes from hit series like Clannad and Princess Resurrection as well as modern classics like Azumanga Daioh and Elfen Lied.

Anime Network Online is also expanding its High Def offerings with everything from the high-octane actioner Appleseed to the art house favorite Place Promised In Our Early Days. Content available in High Def format is delivered in a 720p H.264 encode, providing a crisp, clear picture comparable to digital cable.

HD content is just one of the benefits of Premium Membership with Anime Network Online, which costs just $6.95 per month. Three month packages are available for just $18.95, and an annual subscription costs just $69.95.

Anime Network recently added hundreds of hours of new anime programming to its library and is adding hundreds more in the months to come, including new shows never before available in North America on broadcast or DVD. Meanwhile fans are encouraged to test out the new online player and the network’s extensive library by registering at www.theanimenetwork.com (http://www.theanimenetwork.com/). Why they don't just post it on CR is beyond me. I don't want to have to pay more than one subscription.

Why they don't just post it on CR is beyond me. I don't want to have to pay more than one subscription.

Because Anime Network can make more money streaming it themselves, then sharing add revenue with CR. It seems pretty simple to me.

Though several of these shows are also streaming on other sites as well, but most of the "premium" content is only available on TAN. But "Place" is available in HD on Crunchyroll, though I don't know if it is subbed or dubbed.

I don't have a CR membership, so it might be different for members, but on The Place Promised In Our Early Days section, it says no longer available on CR. I think it was only there around the Shinkai weekend? I don't know as I never checked beyond that.

Sure, but the bulk of their user base is already subscribing to CR. I'm also in the I'm-not-paying-for-multiple-subscriptions camp. CR has new shows airing in Japan right now. What does TAN have? Stuff that's been online and even on DVD for years. If they get new content, I'd consider it. But right now, CR wins hands down.

Interview with Anime Network

Right before the recent press release with the HD/Monthly service plans announcement, I was fortunate enough to be able to get in touch with them to discuss a few of the developments. The result is a rare and exclusive interview with Anime Network's Vice President, Stacy Dodson.

I'm going to have to look at HQ Clannad.
