This manga, like the anime by the same name, was inspired by Kurosawa's landmark film The Seven Samurai. The manga shares the same futuristic world as the TV series, but its story is quite different. The plot is more straightforward than the anime's and more closely follows Kurosawa's film in the way Kambei selects his samurai in Volume 1.
