It's been years since I watched any of El-Hazard but I don't recall anyone ever destroying Jinni. As to him being irredeemable-that's the charm of the character. The over the top antics and schemes doomed to fail but he keeps trying. He is El-Hazard's version of Skeletor or Cobra Commander. If the characters were capable of redemption, they wouldn't be as much fun. And it's the over the top nature of them that provides the drama, while at the same time gives you another reason to want to see how this weeks plans will fail.
And then you get the moment where he picks himself up after his latest failure and tries again. If it weren't for his goals and methods, he'd be a great shonen protagonist.
I'm biased though as I love Jinni as an antagonist as he provides drama and humor but never crosses a line to where I wind up hating him.

Oh agreed, he is hilarious and definitly over the top. Still seeing him get his just comeuppance would be nice at some point...at the end of the second show I just wanted to scream at them NOW GO FIND JINNI AND KILL HIM BEFORE HE DOES SOMETHING ELSE THAT MIGHT END UP DESTROYING THE UNIVERSE!!!
Of course that would have ended the show so that can never happen...

Technically, he does go back at the end of the first OVA for her ;)
They never 'properly' get around to showing how he figures out to go get her, but the general consensus among the community is that he eventually works out a way to manipulate the Eye of God's dimension warping abilities to return to Earth and recharge Ifurita, who then brings them both back to El-Hazard since she learns how to do anything used on/against her. Or they just find another device that lets him do it, your pick :) There was a great huge fanfic that explored this in a fairly faithful manner, but I'm too lazy to dig it out tonight.
As to Jinnai, there was probably some proper resolution at the end of Alternative World, but I can't recall for the life of me what it was.
