It's based on a 4-Koma manga by the same mangaka behind Suzunari. It's got cute girls. Decide for yourself if I'm interested. Either way it's going to air soon.

The episode is mainly about how Kana ended up with the newspaper girls. A group of girls that mostly lean towards the side of yuri. At the very least, one can't deny Yuki's preference. No amount of dedication to denying can hide the truth.
It was for the most part decent. Although I get the feeling that for some Haruka might go a bit too far. Granted it may be less about how far she goes and more about the age gap.
Oh, and the opening contains the names of the girls. Of course, I already forgot several of the names. Yes, go figure on that one.

It was alright. It was nice to see Mrs. Slocombe's pussy lives on in some form. I'll keep watching for a few episodes at least, as it fits nicely into Natsu no Arashi's spot.

Kanna is tera-moe and voiced by Yoyosaki Aki (Yui <3). Poor, poor Kana.
Damn you, Steam! Must you always get in my way!
I hear Horie Yui and Kugimiya Rie. <3
Yes, they do need "a prissy fourteen year old tsundere queen" with pink twintails. I'll support that line of thought any day.
Yuri vision. And Kanna reacts so cutely to it.
So I guess this show is going the KnJ route?
Kana is collecting quite the herd of cats. Poor stray Kana. I'd give you a home, if I could.
More yuri vision.
Death to those who ate all of Kana's food!
I'm really starting to hate cats.
Saki gave Kana a newspaper to sleep on--and Kana's OK with it. That's too funny.
Ugh stupid Americanization. Die! Die! Die!
And the ending is cute and by Horie Yui. Looks like I have another CD to order. >_>

Eh. I decided to check out this show for fun, and fun is not really what I had. Kana herself is a sympathetic character, but she's surrounded by stereotypes and cliches. I assume wacky hi-jinks are supposed to ensue. But didn't quite.
About the only smiles I had were from the cats, and from the moving company guys. I don't think this will be competing for my attention on Sundays.

It's like the first episode was dedicated to making sure the viewer would understand where everything stands. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting it to go that far.
In any case, there are only two paths for Kana. She'll either come to regret meeting them or she'll end up becoming corrupted.

I was expecting this show to be a lot of silly fun... and at least in my eyes, it definitely was. Funniest part had to be Kana's hurried packing up and running away from the moving guys and Haruka's fantasies about what kind of girl she hoped would get the job there (she at least got somewhere close to her wish...). Haruka did go a bit far at points, but it was still well within the bounds of what I'll laugh at vs. cringing at. Kana is absurdly cute, and Chief is quite amusing, and everyone else- while somewhat stereotypical- works nicely too.
Is it bad that the moment they showed the hole in Kana's room's wall that I expected Yotsuya to come crawing out of it? :sd:
And the ending is chibilicious. I approve of it every bit as much as Saki's most commonly used ending....
So far, of the shows that I've checked out from the summer season so far, this one stands the highest chance of my following it consistently (other than the two that were locked in the moment I learned of their existence). That makes for pretty much a perfect record with 4-koma shows for me...

So far, of the shows that I've checked out from the summer season so far, this one stands the highest chance of my following it consistently (other than the two that were locked in the moment I learned of their existence).
In my case, I consider to be weaker than the other four shows I tried in my first round. However to be fair I might be focusing too much on Haruka and judging it more harshly than I should. Perhaps it's better to remember that the rest of the cast isn't that bad.
Also I think a lot of it will depend on later episodes. In some ways this reminds of those series where they go all out in the first episode in order to drill into your head that X is like this and Y is like that. Yet after the first episode, everyone gets toned down a bit.
That makes for pretty much a perfect record with 4-koma shows for me...
Knowing my love for 4-Koma, I'll likely be checking out a bit more of it. That and the stuff with Yuki and Yume interests me a bit. As if I even needed to say why.

Haruka was kind of annoying, but it was pretty cute otherwise.
Yay for surprise yuri. I also liked Yuuki looking jealous in the background when Yume was getting all over Kana. And then Kana goes gets Yuuki in on the fun and she's happy again. Very cute.
Saki is my favorite though.
Aside from the surprise kiss and Saki's stuff, I didn't care much for the first half of the episode and wasn't planning to continue beyond the first episode, but I ended up enjoying the second half a bit more and I think I'll at least watch episode 2.

Gave this shot after looking through the summer releases - pleasant surprised. Nothing too deep but just fun and fluff. And surprise yuri (which was a surprise) - surprise yuri using a character voiced by Ryou Hirohashi. Damn if that didn't get me thinking about bad ideas involving her characters from Aria and Kaleido Star...
...ahem, where was I?
It has an A List cast with Hirohashi and Horie, not to mention Toyosaki as Kana ( Yui and Su FTW) - Yuuki jealousy with Yume was super cute (Yume not surprisingly quickly becoming my favourite, though Kanna, Saki and Hinata are all pretty fun as well). Only one which annoyed me was Haruka as she was a bit too over the top, but in terms of fun, I enjoyed it and gonna stick with it.
Now next series...Umineko....yeah, slightly different end of the spectrum...

Oh man that was great. Funny, heartwarming, a tad melancholy, AND THEY ARE ALL FLAMINGLY GAY.
My favorite is Yuuki, who looks like Kanade from Asura Cryin' and is voiced by Endo Aya! <3 <3 <3 She worries so much, but Yume obviously loves her.

Episode 1:
- Ooooh, the OP is really cute and catchy. Good stuff.
- They're going to sell Kana! Oh nooooo! XD
- Man I love the eyes! It reminds me of the artist Kiira (http://hamlet.jp/) (note, some NSFW), a lot. Definitely awesome eyes. In a weird way, this is surprisingly well animated. At least in the faces/hair etc.
- So Kana is Toyosaki Aki (Yui!), Hinata is Kitamura Eri (Toradora Ami, Kojika Rin, Minami-ke Yuka), Yume is the ever versatile Hirohashi Ryou (Alice! Kyou!), Yuuki is Endo Aya (Sorakake Itsuki, etc), Haruka is Horie Yui (Minorin! Ayu! A bajillion others!). Quite interesting to me is Mizuhara Kaoru as Saki. Mizuhara has only really done Ga-Rei's Yomi and Lucky Star's Misao (-va!) before, two characters who are nothing alike at all. This role is... rather different as well. She's got some range, now she just needs to get more roles! Of course there's the lovely Kugimiya Rie in this show as well, but we haven't met her character.
- Hahah, oh. WOW. XD! Haruka is a total lolicon. And more importantly, YUUKI AND YUME ARE TOTALLY GAY! HELL YES!!
- Aww, Kana. Fight! Fight!
- Hey, the newspaper delivery scenes had a really good feel to them. Nice upbeat music playing while we watch the gang get to work. I like.
- Oh I can tell the eyecatches for this show are going to be awesome.
- Sugar curry! Yuuki is forcing herself to ram it down. :sd:
- Leave some veggies for Kana!
- Oh god I love these people. Yume and Hina glomp Kana! Yuuki gets jealous and Yume runs up and gives her a kiss! They snuggle! Haruka lusts after Kana's zettai ryouiki!
- Wait, Haruka goes to the college in Moyashimon?
- Yume, you are brilliant! "Oh well if I don't have a futon, then..." =D
- HAHAHA! Kana didn't even ask what business she was being hired by until now! :sd:
Oh wow, that was awesome. What an instantly lovable and completely insane cast. They're all really strong personalities in their own right, and Kana's backstory is appropriately touching. I'm really, really going to like this mix on this one.
Not to mention unexpectedly fantastic animation (wonder if Feel can keep it up?), catchy and cute OP and ED, and a great seiyuu cast. This is a definite keeper.

The 'Tonight Show' thing? I think you mean that Haru will not stoop to. :P She's easily thwarted by the Chief's hair though, so it's probably going to continue being funny for me and not annoying. I was laughing SO hard when Yuuki snapped back to life and dragged Yume off at the mention of mouth-to-mouth. And I wasn't expecting the Kugimiya-tsundere to also be another newspaper delivery girl- that's an extra bonus.
This show is a solid lock for me: it's cast is just entirely too amusing and fun, it's ridiculously over-the-top at times (if the port-a-potty's rocking, don't come a-'knockin...), and manages to drop down and be kind of touching and sweet at times too.

Yuuki's totally Itsuki from Sorakake, and not just in the voice, she has the same "puppy dog" feel that Itsuki had.

- Kana!! Everyone got abducted by aliens, oh no. It's all sorts of silly, of course, but it also shows how worried Kana is about losing the people around her after her parents and grandmother have all died.
- Hamsters! XD
- Puppy head alarm. >_>
- Convenience stores are for when you get attacked! lol
- Aahah! Oh god I love these people so much. Saki just plops down in Kana's lap. We carry a young girl home everyday! XD
- I love Saki's Yami hair.
- God damn Hirohashi Ryou as Yume is perfect. So is Endo Aya's Yuuki. She's got that awkward-yet-serious Itsuki thing down pat. Mouth to mouth! So I don't die! XD
- All kinds of things go on in a park bathroom. Especially when Yume and Yuuki are around.
- Looks like they won't be dialing Haruka back at all. :sd: That could get annoying. She's regressed all the way back to toddlercon...
- But everyone else is looooooove.
- Hah! As if kids nowadays would look in a newspaper to see when a show airs. That's what the internet or the schedule on your cable TV is for. I love how Kana apologizes for delivering such bad news too. :sd:
- It's a KUGIMIYA!! Yaaaaaaay! Oh god, she's so... Kugimiya.
- And now Kana is an official newspaper girl!
Holy crap that was cute.
I was saying this to Fence earlier, about how Yume and Yuuki's relationship is... really interesting. When is the last time you've seen two females openly and physically in love, without it being a pure gimmick, and without it being a big source of drama. I mean, wow, real yuri that isn't the central point of the show. Wow and wow again. Their relationship is absolutely fantastic.

"I need mouth to mouth so I don't die!"
Saki is still my favorite character, but Yume and Yuuki are close seconds (yay for yuri).
Haruka's gags manage to fail pretty much every time though. The only time I actually liked the screentime devoted to her was at the very end when she was showing the picture of Kana she took.

I came in not expecting much from this first episode and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. It's very fun to watch. The cast of characters is certainly very, uh, interesting to say the least, but they're fun. If I were Kana, I'd certainly be freaked out with working with a bunch of crazies. Saki is really cute, especially with her helping run the business and everything. This show makes creative use of cats. Let's see, there's been mosaics, steam/fog, crows, and now cats. What will Japan think of next? Anyways, I can't help but wonder if a relative was supposed to go pick up Kana or something after her Grandma died but they forgot or something. Eh, it's possible. The older characters in this show look pretty unreliable, unlike the lolis, who seem to be more reliable. That aside, I was pretty impressed with the animation in this first episode.

Anyways, this episode was just too fun to watch. The cast of characters continues to be great for the most part. Though I think Kana needs to be more weary of Haruka than random shady looking people she might run into on the streets.

That said it was a nice episode. Despite Mika being tsundere, she's also batshit insane, which is a nice change to the stereotype. And Kana's smile must have been pretty strange.

- Hah! As soon as Haruka got going I just KNEW her motive was running with toast. :sd:
- Holy shit Saki. O_O That is not Saki! Bwhahah.
- Aww, Kana's friends are so nice.
- YES! Mika is in her class!! And I just can't see anyone but Kugimiya (well maybe Tomatsu) in a role like this anymore. :sd: She's just so perfect. I was pleasantly surprised to see her react nicely to seeing Kana though.
- Oh, I should also be surprised that she's in this commoners' school at all, although the fact that we already saw her delivering newspapers kinda indicates her ojou-sama life is in her past.
- Heh, nice intercept-chop, Hinata.
- Saki returns! Her smile may be dangerous, but apparently Kana's is deadly >_>
- Hey, there's a Mika looking through your window...
- It's industrial espionage! At least Saki thinks so. I love her severe changes in attitude. Poor Mika doesn't seem to have any idea what's going on. RICE!
- Ahaha, I was wondering why Saki was going with Mika but... that's soooo sabotage. XD
- I did not expect Mika to be this utterly clueless about the business, but I guess that shouldn't be surprising. Undoubtedly she hasn't worked before.
- You know, this is all pretty hilarious and all that, but part of me actually feels really, really sad for Kana. :sd: It's amusing but... depressing. Especially to see how happy Kana was to hear Saki say she has a wonderful smile. Poor Kana. ;_; (And we've seen Kana smile beautifully multiple times already, clearly her problem is that she can't do it right when she's actively trying hard to do it. Just smile naturally you silly girl!)
- lol wut? Mika has been "Kujiin" all along, and suddenly you sub it as "Kurin"? :sd: That don't seem to have their best translator working on this. Oh well, by and large it's been fine.
- Mika is so tsuntsun. =D! She's really quite interesting, because she isn't in tsundere ojou-sama mode *all* the time. When she's not sputtering out an excuse to hide her embarrassment, she's surprisingly personable and nice. I really, really like the mix in her personality, conveyed perfectly by Kugimiya as usual.
- "FIRE!" <3 Mika!
- Hahah, Mika can only say nice things if she gets on high ground first. :sd:

Saki is delightfully evil. She plays all the kids at he school to get to their parents and then sends Kana out as a weapon.
Mika was the real highlight of this episode though. I think she might dethrone Saki as my favorite character. All of her scenes with Kana (wait, did she have any scenes that weren't with Kana?) were really cute, particularly the smile practice and her allowing Kana to use her first name.

Mika is definitely a great addition to the cast, and so unabashedly a Kugimiya tsundere. She's adorable when she gets flustered by Kana's simple friendliness.
But.... Saki totally won this episode. She's just an absolute riot, from sweeter-than-Yume's-cooking when drumming up business to her normal 'Oi, don't let the public see the pervert' dryness to going ballistic over supposed espionage.
I have to admit, I actually got quite a laugh out of Haruka and the toast as well. :P

There've been a few of those (song & dance numbers) in shows this season... and I'm not exactly complaining. :catgirl:
Definitely an amusing twist on the usual beach/pool episode- one that probably ended up being for the better since it allowed Mika to take part too. I loved the eyecatch too... now THAT I can see Kana and Mika being truly frightened of.

Random musical episode with working girls and mizugi! It was hilarious and adorable. I especially liked the part with Mika and Kana. Haruka no longer annoys me and I actually found her entertaining. I also loved when Kana accidentally stumbled upon Yume and Yuuki making out. And the eyecatch was adorable as well.
This quickly became a much better series than I could have hoped to expect. Why is this season so awesome?
More anime need to do random musical episodes like this. The last one to do it was Kurenai (which set the bar pretty high and this episode, while very amusing, didn't come close to meeting it) and I can't think of any others that have done it anytime remotely recently.

- Swimsuits, finally! Yume looks super cute.
- Ohhh, Yume and Yuuki give each other those eyes. THOSE EYES.
- Also, singing.
- Gah, the horrors of scheduling conflicts. ;_;
- Haha! The Oni song was fantastic.
- Delivering papers in their swimsuits! Looks like the customers will get that service after all. Why don't they always do this? Subscriptions would skyrocket. You think Saki would have thought of this already.
- God damn this is amazing. Especially Kana running around totally paranoid. XD
- I LOVE THIS SHOW.

This whole season has really been incredibly strong IMO, but Kanamemo is definitely there near the top. I certainly hope they have more impromptu singing and dancing, it's just too much fun. And though I'm not nearly the one to squee over yuri nearly as much as some others, Yuuki and Yume I highly approve of- largely because, as I believe you pointed out, their relationship isn't solely played on as a gag or the likes- it's portrayed as being genuine and natural and simply there.

Man, this episode was just too amusing to watch. Saki is really evil, and Kana is just too cute. I couldn't stop myself from cracking a smile every time she was making her evil smile face. Her "good" smile at the end of the episode was funny. I just adored every second of screen time that both Kana and Mika share. It's just a blast to watch. I hope they spend a lot more time together as the formula Kana+Mika=win for me.
I primarily watch my anime dubbed, but I have to confess that Rie Kugimiya works wonders with loli tsunderes and Mika is no exception.

It's bath house time! Mikan is amusing. Especially with what she did with the soap bubbles.
I think they went a bit overboard with using the cats to censor stuff. Hopefully the DVD version won't have them. As they're quite distracting.
Note, it's not so much that I want to see naked goodness. Ok, maybe I do. It's more that a show should not be putting itself in a position where they have to go overboard with censorship icons. All right, I realize this might just be a way of saying "Buy the DVDs" or whatever.

Mikan wanting Kana to take off her clothes = Mikan's yuriness CONFIRMED. Kana? Mikan will be your waifu, your destined one.
They should have had Kana scrub Mikan's back. Damnit.
Yume giving Yuuki that kiss was downright adorable.
I wonder what Hina meant by "Not together forever" statement. That have to marry a man eventually? No! Nothing can get between Yume and Yuuki's awesome relationship. NOTHING.

Curse you, Censorship Cat!
This was a decent episode, but who does feel think they're fooling, putting 90 seconds of "Digest Clips" after the ED to fill the allotted 24 minutes? Hopefully this is just a one-time thing.
Apropos of nothing in particular, here's my current character ranking:
1. Saki
2. Kana
3. Mika
4. Yuuki
5. Haruka
6. Hinata
7. Yume

I kind of have to wonder if perhaps there was footage that they ended up having to cut and that's why they had the 'digest' segment. The censorship seemed well overboard as well. When exactly is this airing over in Japan?
This was a fun episode though... Haruka actually managed to get some good stuff in for once- especially her 'scouter' identifying Mika. I didn't take her wanting Kana to help her undress in that way, I took it more as she was used to having a servant or the likes help her dress/undress. Either way, those two are too adorable together (as are Yuuki and Yume).

Heh, that never occurred to me. I figured they must not have gotten the episode done in time, or it was an extreme budget-conserving measure. The idea of it being a too-hot-for-TV "deleted scene" is certainly tantalizing, though.
The censorship has less to do with the airtime (which like most every non-kids anime is well after midnight) than the desire to sell (uncensored) DVDs.

I don't know... it just seemed even further out there than usual this time around... I mean, they've gone so far as cat-out even people in the background, including naked rears. If they're doing it simply for selling the uncensored DVDs- they went waaaay too far IMO.
Also, something I hadn't picked up on initially that I did thinking about it after the fact- when Yume is out (ostensibly) boarding up the shutters, Yuuki tells Kana that Yume 'loves the rain and the snow'. It totally slipped my mind until after the fact, but Yuuki = snow. :P

Episode 5:
- Awww, Yume is so sweet to Yuuki. Runs off to get a brush and untangle her hair! =D
- Heh Kana looks cute when frazzled. Viva la typhoon!
- Kana is Marylin Monroe? I don't think I'd want to sit through a Typhoon Saki. That would be scary.
- Bikinis return! How many shows will give you bikini scenes two episodes in a row without involving a (real) pool or beach? KANAMEMO DELIVERS! (intended) Also, soulmates! Yuuki and Yume! They have the Courage to Dream of a world where women can love each other openly! (also intended) But man, fantastic shot from above on Yume. Epic cleavage!
- Evil Yuuki.
- Maybe Yume is living in a whole other Dream-world. :sd: Her teruterubouzu monk sounds more like Santa Claus.
- ...Yuuki is going to be with Yume forever! =D
- Wow, Haruka is really hard up isn't she?
- OHGOD YUME. That was so sweet. ;_;
- I hear a Kugimiya!
- Yume argh you're so adorable.
- What does the scanner say about her Lolita level? It's over 680,000! (sorry)
- lol eyecatch
- (Jeeze, why am I having such buffering problems when I pause and unpause right now?)
- Alright, I hate steam but I think the big huge KnJ-like censorship is worse. it's pretty excessive. Why not just use creative angles instead? I kinda doubt this is the sort of show where the DVDs will suddenly have full frontal nudity.
- Or maybe it will? Some of these shots are, like... really seeming like they're intended not to be so censored. I'm confused. Anyway, lol Mika. She must be learning a lot from Yuuki and Yume.
- And then Haruka attacks...
Enjoyable subject matter in this episode but the censorship really hurt it. I don't really care at all if we get nipples or not, that's not what I'm in it for, but don't have half the screen censored in every scene. Do it in a way that doesn't require such drastic censorship, guys.
...Wait, something after the ED? A Mika scene and then, uh, recap kinda? Were they just short on time and had to fill a minute and a half wit this? :sd: Weird, here's hoping that's a one time thing.

The part where Hina told Yuuki she couldn't be with Yume forever was annoying. Evil Yuuki was nice though.
That was one of the most, uh, unique bathhouse episodes ever though, due to the overabundance of blatant censorship and for an extended period of time. They didn't just use heavy and very, very obvious steam censorship, they covered the characters in pictures of a cat. At least the cat face they used for it was amusing (and then Saki gets a cat paw!). I was particularly amused when the steam suddenly dissipated the moment Mika was all lathered up.
Speaking of Mika, I like all of the characters, but she significantly improves any given episode the second she's introduced. They need to stop waiting until half-way (or more) through the episode to bring her in.

I wouldn't be wholly surprised if they were making the pun... that entire conversation was some amusing wordplay from what I could tell even with my limited Japanese knowledge. That was one place I took slight issue with the translation though... I thought it would have made more sense to have left 'neko' in Haruka's comment about Yuuki untranslated, since its implication was wholly different.

- Kana!! <3 <3 Your cuteness knows no bounds. It's a day off from work today! Although it's her first Obon since her grandmother's death, so it could be a bit depressing for her.
- You know, I've never really stopped to consider what the "Inevitable Last 2-3 Episode Ending Arc Seriousness" for this show would be (because you know these cute fun shows always think they need to do something like that, blah). But I was just thinking about how Kana ran away from the movers without ever finding out what was really going on, and that makes me think she has some relatives looking for her right now. So I expect an aunt or uncle or someone will show up around episode 11 asking her (either forcefully or gently) if she wants to come live with them. Kana will be torn between going back to her "real" family or staying with the newspaper gang. I'm expecting something fairly stereotypical like that, but I do hope it's a bit different. Actually, I hope they ignore the whole issue entirely and just keep with the Fuushin fun straight through to the end. It's not like the manga is over anyway, so no need to try to get dramatic, right?
- Hahahahh! "Barrier, barrier, barrier, barrier!" Oh now that was far, far too cute.

Well, technically if they're wearing the kimono 'properly' (see: final episode of the original Minami-ke...)- yeah, they would need to be censoring it. But yeah- they do see to be getting excessive with it. It wouldn't have been hard at all to have drawn that scene so it didn't need censoring though as well, which is what I would think would have been better. In the bathhouse is one thing, but I do agree with you there- that scene really didn't call for nudity.

What I mean is, I can't even imagine how some of those shots would have shown anything. Like the one with Yuuki... it was way too high up for anything to be under that cat. It's just really annoying how they do it. Kodomo no Jikan suffered from the same "toss censorship into semi-serious scenes" stuff too.
I just don't get how they got it in their heads that Kanamemo should be one of those "LULZ BUY THE DVDS FOR TITS" shows. It's just so... inconsistent with the mood of the series. Oh well.

Yeah, I feel the same way. My best guess is that the source material actually has similar issues... there wasn't a need for anything other than the occasional steam in shows like Minami-ke or Hidamari, both of which had bathhouse scenes/episodes and no excessive censorship.

Of course, the very next scene destroys any sense of maturity.
Still, I'm starting to laugh the hardest with her now.

A toast to Kana's first paycut! :sd:
This episode was a tad more serious than usual and looks to be setting up for the end of series drama when Kana will likely have to deal with whether or not to leave. It was an okay episode but definitely one of the weaker ones.

Episode 8:
- Kana is melting!
- Could this get any better for Haruka? A Kana suddenly falls into her lap! But damn you Haruka, your abuse might wind up turning Kana away from girls and ruining Mika's chances!
- Yume petting Kana~ Yuuki getting pouty~ Yume petting Yuuki~
- Hah, Kana finds out there was an employee worse than her.
- One who Saki was quite attached to. I like seeing a different side of Saki in this flashback. Someone she would refer to as Nee-san? Someone she's this worked up over? I really want to meet her...
- Aww, that flashback was quite sweet even if we still don't know much about Marimo after it.
- Pay cuts!
- And now for a party! I thought we'd learn a little more about Marimo but the moral of the story is obvious. Kana won't be with them forever, etc etc. And maybe now Marimo will show up later in the show to say hi.
Cute Kana end pic by Kakifly!

I can't believe I've fallen behind on this show. Kana would be sad. :(
Anyways, hilarious and very fun episode. I just love how everyone was exploiting the fact that Kana can get scared so easily. Poor Kana. Still, it's really touching to see that the people around her care about her so much. Kana and Mika's relationship continues to be fun to watch. Mika should just work for Saki's newspaper that way she and Kana can be together all the time.

I shed some tears during this episode. That little speech Haruka gave to Kana about grandmas was touching, but then my tears turned to semi-laughter after she went about that other stuff. Darn it, this show is confusing my views on yuri. I just don't know anymore. I just loved how lovey-dovey Yume and Yuuki were when they were still in bed. That little segment where Kana runs into the kid threw me off, but then I noticed the child looked similar to Kana's grandmother, like a couple other posters here did. Kana's drawing of her grandmother was pretty well done, at least for a child her age, unlike that "campfire" one. Still, that was funny. That aside, it seems like the dragonflies that showed up in this episode meant something as well, but maybe that's just me. I'm starting to notice that the lack of Mika isn't necessarily a bad thing as I loved this episode regardless. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to see more of her and Kana.

- Kana is fat! ...well not really but it's diet time.
- Oh quit it with the censorship, it's just panties!
- Hahah, Saki's friendship only goes so deep huh... And again Haruka has a sorta sweet moment followed by creepiness.
- Mika!! Finally! Mika-sama, help Kana!
- Mika clinging onto Kana! Go go go! Kana's friend is quite cute.
- Hose attack! Barrier is apparently water permeable. And amazing, they're not censoring the hell out of wet Kana.
- Preemptive strike against Haruka.
- And ehhhh, I dislike animals in general, and dogs pretty much top the list of most annoying animals. But a least Mika is here!
- Mika carrying Kana!
- "Kana left me alone..." Oh she has it bad.
- I wish Mika were petting and being licked by Kana instead.
- Hahah what the hell? The animation in this show is really quite good, but the characters do occasionally go off model. Like right now, Yuuki standing behind Mika as Jon brings Mika the dog treats. Yuuki looks like her breasts tripled in size.
- Ah Mika is just entirely too cute.
Not one of the best episodes but this show hasn't had a bad one yet. And more Mika makes everything better.

I was glad to see Yume didn't really leave for good. I kind of expected that to be the case, but it could have kept Yume out for good just as easily so I was a little worried our yuri couple had been broken up for good.
I loved the Mika scenes at the end. They are barely keeping Mika x Kana at the subtext level. And she was sooooo adorable. That bright, eager look on her face at the idea of sharing a can with Kana (I was a little surprised she didn't react negatively when the second can popped out; there went her excuse for a second hand kiss!), her "I'm not selfish or pushy >_>--------> *hinthinthint*" part, and her line about things always being fun with Kana were all too cute.

- Drill hair ojou-sama Yume! Let's see how long the misunderstanding (Kana things Yume is gone for good, but obviously she's not...) goes on.
- Hahaha, what delicious melodrama. It's through the roof.
- Oh wow, Kana. XD She's so awkward. It's hilarious.

It was nice seeing Saki get some development in this episode. I don't dislike her, but she isn't anywhere near the top of the list of my most liked characters of the show. This episode improved my opinion of her a little more. Saki seems to put up a front so it makes her look like she doesn't really care about anyone but she was really attached to Marimo. From last week's preview, I was hoping for a Saki-centric episode, but I had to settle for a Saki-centric half-episode. Oh well, I'll take what I can get.
Stuff I liked:
-The pre-OP exchange between Saki and Kana:
"Hurry up and get changed so you don't catch cold!"
"It's very kind of you to say that, Chief."
"No, it's because I don't want to be shorthanded!"
-Yuuki's feverish explanation for why the bucket maker has good sales when the wind blows
-The bald guy emerging from Saki in Kana's imagination
-Kana spilling all the ice cubes in the sink and then shushing them
-Kana telling Bunta to keep quiet
-Kana losing her voice
It's weird that I've been able to keep up with this series so well, since it's been pretty average for me (the fact that I'm completely indifferent to yuri may be a big factor there). I'm several episodes behind on every other summer show that I'm watching with the exception of Haruhi, including several that I like a lot better. And though I'm not nearly the one to squee over yuri nearly as much as some others, Yuuki and Yume I highly approve of- largely because, as I believe you pointed out, their relationship isn't solely played on as a gag or the likes- it's portrayed as being genuine and natural and simply there.

And the moral of this episode is: yuri sex is good for you. You listening, anime girls of the world? I suggest you have it at least once a day.
Someone needs to give Kana a big hug and tell her everything's going to be alright(someone other than Haruka). Considering how superhumanly adorable she is, it's weird that random people she passes don't do this out of impulse.

- Flea market! Papers! Cake! Cake that does not just *look* delicious, but is without any doubt completely delicious. Yuuki says so.
- Oh god, that's the most love-filled cream puff eating ever. There's no way Kana can stay hetero living with them. It's only the lack of Mika being around that's stopping her!
- Hhaha, been awhile since we've seen Saki's fake personality come out.
- Oh Kana. Stop worrying about Marimo. They love you for who you are~
- Heh, I think they forgot about the customer. But that's okay, we get more lovely Yuuki/Yume moments.
- MIKA MIKA MIKA MIKA!!! She's so in love (even if she doesn't know it already) that she offers to help the competition!
- All Hail Mika!
- Oh hey it's Marimo.
- Wow, for someone so ditzy looking she's really shrewd about forcing someone to help. Although I question her business sense... she couldn't have made more than about 1000 yen.

Mika gets a decent amount of screen time for the first time in a while. I really liked her in this episode; it's a shame she didn't show up more in the previous episodes.
Stuff I liked
-Mika's reaction to Nao-chan's suggestions that Kana could have a boyfriend
-Kana's face after she catches Mika having a bit too much fun on the springy duck-thing. That's a side of Kana I don't think we've seen before.
-Kana's picture diary
-Kana's attempts to rationalize the price of the new diary (maybe it has a treasure map inside!)
-Haruka: I want you, Kana.
Kana: (lamenting the price of the diary) 2980 yen...
Haruka: What? (dashes out, returns with 3000 yen, gets tackled by Hinata and Saki)
The "Haruka is a lolicon, ha ha, get it?" jokes started to wear on me a long time ago, but somehow this one just worked.
-Yuuki running out to buy the notebooks after hearing Yume's request to Kana
-"What's yours is mine, what's mine is mine." -Amano Saki, 2009
I highly approve of how they chose to end things; with the manga still running it must have been tempting to animate an original ending that would feel more conclusive. Instead, they recognized that comedies like this don't always have to end like that and just let all the characters take a final bow of sorts. It's just too bad that Mika will never learn the truth about Johnny now.
Series Review
I was initially drawn to this series based on its premise, which intrigued me enough that I subscribed to Crunchyroll just so I could see the first episode without waiting a week. OK, so that wasn't the only reason, but it was a big part of why I took the plunge when I did. It ended up not being nearly good enough to justify a CR membership all by itself, but considering how often choosing a show based solely on the premise has bitten me in the ass, Kanamemo did pretty well. The animation was decent, the characters ranged from goddess-tier (Saki) to barely tolerable (Haruka), the OP and ED were pretty strong, and there were some real gems within the 13 episodes (most notably the musical episode--we need more of those in anime!). Kana is a very cute and sympathetic protagonist, and her interactions with the other girls usually make for decent comedy. I can't review this series without mentioning the Yume-Yuuki pairing, which may well represent a watershed moment for yuri. Being totally indifferent to yuri content, I couldn't really appreciate their relationship, but the reaction of the yuri fans on this thread speaks for itself. As for the character that I did fall in love with... well, let's just say I would have liked the show a lot better if it were called Sakimemo. Seriously, during the lackluster middle episodes Saki was the only reason I didn't drop it. She's just that charming. In the end, though, the Fuushin girls (and Mika) were enough to keep me watching most of the episodes the same day they were posted on Crunchyroll. Kanamemo didn't meet the high expectations I had for it, but it was far from a total disappointment. Recommended for fans of yuri, slice-of-life stories, and world-weary grade-school girls.
Final Character Ranking
1. Saki
2. Kana
3. Mika
4. Hinata
5. Yuuki
6. Yume
7. Haruka

KANAMEMO KANAMIKA!
Kana's a different person when around Mika, isn't she? She seems far more relaxed and able to mess around. Her screwing with Mika's head was hilarious.
Mika was clearly the highlight of the episode, but the second half was awesome as well.

KANAMEMO KANAMIKA!
I like the sound of KANAMIKA. Much better than silly thought I had. Which was along the lines of "Mikan + Kana= Mikana".

I hope striking back involves her "attacking" Kana. Wait, that makes Mikan sound like a villain.

Yes, that definitely the best part of the episode. EVIL Kana is best. Especially when she's screwing with Mikan...

The look on Kana's face when Mika noticed her was probably one of the best expressions I've ever seen on her, and that scene was easily one of the best scenes in the entire show. The meganeko friend is my kind of evil as well, messing with Mika like that.
I definitely have to agree- this was an excellent ending to the show. It gave us lots of what made the show so good in the first place and gave all the characters a chance to shine for a little bit (LOL at Saki's 'saying'). Even the somewhat annoying (though less so to me than some people it seems) Haruka was in excellent form, both in ecchi mode and 'sage elder' (in coming up with how to get Kana to accept the money for the diary). I loved the final eyecatch too- those have definitely been a highlight of the show, especially when they're the only time we see Mika in an episode.
This has definitely been one of my favorites in a season FULL of really strong shows- it's one I always knew I'd be walking away from with a warm smile on my face and that I'd get at least a few good laughs from. I hope once the manga gets a bit further along we get more of it.

Episode 13:
- Go go Kana-senpai! Go go Kana-senpai!
- Oooh, Mika and Kana in their winter uniforms. Don't remember seeing those before, but they're damn cute. Also, this may be one of the first times I've actually seen a show animate someone writing the individual strokes of the kanji (even fi it was only like 2). Usually they're just sort of banging their pencil/pen/chalk in the same place a few times without anything appearing.
- XD! Oh Mika, you just totally outed your girlfriend. Mikan-chan is lonely!
- AHHH!! Boyfiend? Don't say that in front of Mika! The idea of Kana with a guy is deadly to her! Nao-chan is having way too much fun teasing Mika.
- GOD DAMN IT MI KA SO C U T E
- Ahahahah, absolutely perfect look on Kana's face when she sees Mika fooling around in the playground. XD
- !!!!!! Evil Kana? EVIL KANA!? How can there be such a thing I don't even ......I love it.
- Kanamemo Kanamika? I'll take some KanaMika, please!
- Ohgodohgodohgodhodhodhd Mika wants to bike Kana to school every day!
- Mikan, your tsuntsun is so adorably ineffective. And your deredere is the cutest damn thing ever.
- An imaginary bike race! Fuuuuuuuuuuu, why did we not get more Mika episodes like this? This is unbelievably awesome.
- Ahaha, it's like Kana is DMing a biking RPG.
- "I got hit." XD And now Mika is holding Kana in her arms! THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE OF ALL!
- Oh god that was amazing.
- Awww... the empty pages from when she lost her grandmother, before coming to Fuushin?
- Hahah! Kana was totally Yui for a second there when she sees the price on the diary.
- Heh, Yume, you are wonderful. And Mika, you're so jealous~
- Hahahahah, Haruka just thought she'd bagged herself a kana for 3k yen.
- Silly Kana, let Yume spoil you a bit. She wants to!
- Oh Yuuki. XD
- Awwww, they're making excuses to have her help them out. And putting money in a collection each time. Damnit that's cute.
- Ahahaah, Haruka that was brilliant. XD
- Holy shit, she looks euphorically happy when she counts up the bonus. I could die.
- ED time, but we have more than three minutes left, which means there should be time for a Mika scene after!
- ...Oh, but it sounds like the full version. Well there better still be time!
- Minute and a half left!
- Awww, sweet monologue from Kana. But like 20 seconds left!
- ...lol, not the Mika scene I was hoping for, but oh well. She's clearly totally in love with Kana anyway.
Fantastic ending, all things considered. Definitely one of the best episodes of an unrelentingly adorable series. <3
Now where is my OVA episode where they go to the amusement park and Mikan confesses to Kana in the ferris wheel!?

That was a very nice last episode and definitely one of the better episodes of the series. I was very happy to see that they just played it like any other episode and didn't have any last minute drama.
Oh hell yeah, in my Mikaphoria I forgot that I'd planned to mention that. I had commented in an earlier episode that I expected some last minute development with Kana's relatives coming to take her away or whatever, but thank goodness they completely avoided anything remotely like that and delivered an infinitely more enjoyable conclusion to the series instead.
Kudos to them.

Oh Mika, you're being silly. In the world of Kanamemo, there's no such word as "boyfriend".
That episode was...snappy. The way the story and the gags flowed into each other and the use of misunderstanding humor was very well-written. It had a style of humor that you don't usually see in anime.
This show was fantastic and beautiful and TOO FRIGGIN SHORT! It could have been so much better if they had time to delve deeper in the characters and give every major character her own episode. Kana is a wonderful and adorable main character, but I wanted to know more about the rest of the Fuushin gang. But the show as it is hit the perfect sweet spot for me between too slow and too manic, and mixed just the right amount of warmth. I didn't even mind Haruka--squirm-inducing though she could be at times. I kind of viewed her as an over the top parody of an ultra preverted otaku. One other thing I also noticed--the animators didn't take any shortcuts with the characters' clothing. Every character has something different to wear every episode, and only Kana and Mika have school uniforms, and they don't wear them when they don't have to.
Oh, and let's hear it for the screen wipe robot. Kanamika indeed.

Screen wipe robot. Best. Robot. Ever. :)
O.K, a stretch but it was definitely more than a little comedy with it involved.
Finally marathoned this after for some reason keeping this on the backlog for a while (ironic as after the musical episode, this was in my top 3 series this year) - all I can say is that it didn't disappoint. The comedy was spot on, the characters were all pretty damn good - even Haruka didn't becoming as annoying (maybe as she was always the butt of the jokes in the end) - I would have liked to have heard more about Hinata, and also on Yuuki and Yume's relationship, but overall, it was a very fun show, and Mika is yet another of the many darkhorse characters that seem to rule over the leads - expect for Kana and Saki, who are both awesome.
Kanamika indeed. And more evil Kana please. :)

- Hahahahh! "Barrier, barrier, barrier, barrier!" Oh now that was far, far too cute.
I loved that part too - so adorable. She had to make sure to cast that barrier several times so it was strong enough. :P
- ...Well that works too. Yume is great with that messy hair. And gaaaah they're so sweet together <3 <3
This really has been one of the sweetest yuri couples I've seen in anime so far. I liked their scenes this episode
And wasn't that Normad in the shooting gallery? It wouldn't surprise me, since the director (Takayanagi Shigehito) was director of Galaxy Angel A and X. Looking at the credits, Kanai Mika (Vanilla and Normad) even voice the little girl in this episode too. Can't be a coincidence. :)

If so, she's a fool. Why go to the trouble of taking a mail order course when she lives with a blue-haired loli who's well-versed in using cuteness to get her way? Paycut Kana! PAYCUT!

Just in case, anyone was curious as to whether the cat stuff was purely just a joke or censorship, it was clearly the latter. At least if the first episode of the series is any indication. Whether the lack of cats is good or bad, I'll let you decide.

I love this show. Unless something else pops up in the last few months of 2009, this is probably on track to become my No 1 of 2009. I love the fun cast. And it's not every day that you see an established yuri couple who have clearly had sex with each other. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get a Mika x Kana kiss since even Kana's classmates can tell that Mika is crazy about Kana.
And the message from this anime:

So this series does the last second ending illustration with a different artist each episode? I didn't know that. Now I'm going to have to go back and look at them for each episode.
I just got to noticing that ANN Encyclopedia didn't have any information on it when I was watching the last few days, so I have the names of the illustrators entered there now. I liked the endcard illustrations. There are quite cute. Besides that, the eyecatches have been really amusing at times too.

Haha... I really got a kick out that whole time of Kana's friends teasing Mika. They really brought out the cute and jealous side of Mika this episode. It's kind of funny that I was scrolling through comments from the previous episodes here with people lamenting the lack of Mika, because I had seen this episode and she's so great here. :)
I really only had average to slightly above-average expectations going into this, so it's been quite a very pleasant surprise. This ending episode was great, so I'm mostly left with good impressions. Hopefully there will be more, as I think I'm interested in more at this point too.

You know, I tend to not be the type that has any special attraction to yuri pairings. Not saying I don't like them (I certainly do like some), but it's just not something I have to have out of my anime or needed to enhance a series in my mind (there's plenty of straight pairings that I like a lot too). The Yume-Yuuki pairing was just particularly awesome, though, since it was so sweet and heartwarming (always left me feeling happy). Of course, it's just one of many interesting relationships between the characters in the series, of varying degrees and types of closeness, in Kanamemo. It's something that stuck out as nice about the series.

Kana's friends teasing Mika was pretty evil of them, but I also thought was cute seeing Mika get all jealous and desperate like that. The part in the episode where Kana and Mika are pretending to have a bike race was just pure gold. It was just too cute. I really hope they'll be more Kanamemo at some point as well, and hopefully we'll get more Kana and Mika (and Marimo).

I knew it. The censored absolutely nothing. In fact sometimes they were censoring STEAM. The fuck? Seriously?
It's incredibly annoying that they ruined a couple scenes in the broadcast with inappropriate censorship that never actually served a censorship purpose in the first case. Especially because I never cared if there was anything explicit underneath in the first case - Kanamemo didn't need something like that at all. So meaningless.
