During Anime Expo 2009, Bandai Entertainment mentioned it once in passing which caught people by surprise and today they formally announced the Escaflowne movie is coming to Blu-ray this September:

Hitomi Kanzaki is tired of life. Depressed and despondent, she wishes that she could just fade away, to make the pain of living stop hurting. Her pain resonates with another on the world of Gaia, and when her wish is granted...

It doesn't look like they're carrying over the isolated score or the soundtrack CD from the DVD set. Very disappointing; guess that means I'll have to hang onto my old set even after buying the Blu-Ray version.

But still ... high-def Escaflowne? I'm so in.

The fastest way to get me to double-dip on classics like this is to offer it on Blu-Ray! This will be a must buy for me!

I'm in. Now if only TRSI would put the listing up...

As long as this doesn't have the annoying overscan bars that the Japanese Blu-Ray and R1 DVD then I will most certainly double dip. Though considering both versions had it I'm not expecting it.

This will likely end up in my cart at TRSI. If they can list it during the Bandai sale going on right now, it will be very soon. :sd:

Definitely going to buy this. I was watching the LE DVD just a week or so ago and being disappointed at how bad the DVD actually looked.

Wonder why they can't release .hack//G.U. Trilogy on Blu-Ray though.

Forum members were saying that the games didn't do too well so that might be why.

Yeah, it was a bitter pill to swallow not seeing that in BD and the R2 BD not having English subtitles.

Hell yes!! That's why I've been waiting to buy this movie.

I love HD cell animation.

I'll be buying! Got the LE set in boomtime & love the movie Hitomi as much as TV Hitomi. I'd like a BD TV set as well since all I have are my sub VHS set - 1st box set/whole show I ever bought IIRC.

I'll get this for sure if Netflix has it.

I would think it would be a mirror copy of the JP BD release... excluding any pack in extras or additional bonus discs if they had any.

Japanese release has no subtitles & only the theatrical trailer as an extra.
