A stylish shoot-em up thriller with great art and a mysterious underlying connection between four people trying to vindicate past wrongs.

First of all, I think it's fascinating that the correct cover art for the book is still harder to find online than the incorrect cover art (the one attached to the review). Oh well. :)

I'm not entirely sure why I picked this book up originally, as I knew nothing about it and nobody had sold me on it. I guess it was just my Spider-sense tingling, telling me I would enjoy it. By the time I finished my first read of the book, I'd decided any subsequent volumes were as good as preordered.

I also get a strong Black Lagoon vibe from the book, probably due to the older main cast, serious stories (though not without their moments of humor), and gritty violence. I always appreciate when it's not angsty teenagers running around doing the same sorts of things, probably because it's easier to take seriously. I am particularly fond of the artwork, and I appreciate Viz's including the foldout color mini-poster.

While the history of the series doesn't necessarily indicate the series proper will faithfully reproduce and continue what this initial set of standalone stories has presented, I'm still hopeful and very much interested that I find more of most, if not all of what I enjoyed about this book in subsequent volumes to come.

I got this and while really dark I found it a to be a good read. Can't wait for the next one in Aug. Will be interesting to see where the next volume goes. Hope they all interact at some point.
