Like someone mentioned, the DVD's already look great, especially on a upscaling player.
Can't really see the point in expensive single sets.
Guess they must want to build up hype and interest for the franchaise leading upto the OVA.

Yea with this episode count, this is going to be expensive as it's close to $200 per season so a total of 400 overall.

Anybody know if this is 1080i or 1080p? That's usually at least some indication if it's an upscale or not. Even for Japan this is a bit expensive if it's an upscale; I'm surprised they didn't go the box set route.

I don't think Geneon has released any upscales yet (at least not for the main feature), but it might be a good idea to wait for user reports before buying.

Bit the bullet on this release, got the first 2 blu-rays today. And... it is most definitely not an upscale. Rather pleased with that. Was a little worried seeing as it a few years old and didn't air in HD as far as I know, but nothing to worry about here. Some scenes look like they were animated at a lower resolution, but those scenes look jagged even on the DVD. Probably 95% of the show looks a lot more detailed.

Absolutely none, as should always be assumed unless if stated otherwise with Japanese releases.

Not that it makes up for it, but the first press copies have a slip cover with an illustration that extends across the slip covers of the 8 Blu-rays, so you'll have a nice long illustration once you put all 8 covers together.

Yea I didn't notice that. I'll look at the blu-rays later as I'm away from my setup. I'm doubting they're going to release an artbox the way they're setting up the slipcovers.

The panorama grows with the next 2 BD volumes. As for the covers themselves, Roberta is looking uncharacteristically kind, while Shenhua is definitely not.
