I'm probably one of the few gamers out there who does not hate the Wii, yet most people who do always seem to use the term "waggle" to describe the controls...am I the only person sick of that term. To me it's like a derogitory term just used to make fun of the motion controls the Wii uses

Yes, but its accurate.

Fair enough...but what would you call it instead?

Just motion controls, that's what they are

Yeah, but "waggle" refers to more than just the physical control system -- it also refers to the wretchedly unimaginative uses that developers find for it.
Waggle is gratuitous motion control thrown in to placate Wii gamers who might otherwise wonder why the game doesn't just use the Classic controller.

Exactly. It's "motion controls" when the use of the Wii remote is well-designed, imaginative, and accurate in translating your motions to game responses. "Waggle" is when just random flailing of the Wii remote will get whatever response you want, with little to no finesse. This is how most Wii games are, and if people are sick of the term perhaps they shouldn't buy bad Wii games with horrible use of motion control. Maybe then the message will sink in and developers will stop trying to shoe-horn motion control where it doesn't belong, or at least implement it in a thoughtful way.
I've owned a Wii for a long time now and I've never heard the term waggle yet.

As far as I can tell, the term is a product of the video-game blogosphere. Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) was the first place I saw using it.

Nintendo's always been about the waggle.
I recently realized that the Wii is the system they always really wanted to make. Remember all those stupid NES accessories that never worked?
Well, they work now. More or less.

Maybe people wouldn't call it waggle if that wasn't what it is. Motion controls also suck, for the most part.

Like the awesome power glove? R.O.B.? That giant ass circle thing that detected movement, but I can't remember the name to?
I only had the gun. It even worked!
Much like Ty, I never heard of the term "waggle".

The U-Force for NES was an example of crappy motion detection. Same for the Power Glove.

Some crappy laptop thing with a infrared sensor that didn't do a good job of sensing anything. I think I recall someone saying it works better with Punch-Out than the Power Glove though :P
