A friend and I play some local co-op, but we have hit a rut. For the past few weeks, we've been playing the same games. I'm looking for some recommendations. The only exceptions are fighting, sports, Guitar Hero/Rock Band and Lego's (we found Stars Wars to be boring). We've played:

Playstation 2
Metal Slug Anthology

Playstation 3
Lego Star Wars: Complete Collection
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Motor Storm: Pacific Rift
Resistance 1 & 2

I have Little Big Planet, but the 3 or 4 times that I played it bored me. Too much tutorial and basic platforming. Unless it gets more interesting later, I don't want us to play it.

I found this (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/427/427229p8.html) and this (http://www.amazon.com/Various-PS2-Co-op-games/lm/29XJVQ8YO7M7G#height=150) lists for Playstation 2 titles. I've thinking about Time Splitters, Contra: Shattered Soldier, and Twisted Metal (Black or Head On).

If you like hack and slash there is always Dyanasty Warriors. My cousin and I have killled many, many, many hours playing various versions of it co-op.

I think Timesplitters 2 had offline co-op, but I don't think Timesplitters 3 had it. Resident Evil 5 has offline as well as online co-op, but from personal experience I'd almost call the split-screen offline co-op unplayable since you have 2 very small viewing windows to work with (I tried it with a friend, and we both agreed to drop it after a couple minutes of trying to make it work). LittleBigPlanet is a decent co-op venture, and you actually need a second player if you want to get some of the doodads (plus, it's fun to back-hand your friend in the face at the end of the level).

If you and your friend like 1 on 1 fighting games...there are a lot of them to choose from for the PS2 and PS3.

Anywho...two good PS2 co-op recommendations are Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and The Red Star. Both of them are beat'em up titles that play very well and you can probably find them for cheap nowadays.

If you like RPG's (the Diablo kind), Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance I and II for the PS2 are the best. They are fun monster bashers in RPG co-op. No split screen, so you'll have to stay in the same room. My husband and I keep giving them a spin at least once a year, even if we've moved on to PS3 most of the time.

Vouch for anything that has Warriors in the label. Me and my brother killed so many hours just playing the games (curse you Koei for not bringing Warriors Orochi Z for Western release).

Also, check out Sacred 2. It's much like Diablo but it has more quest you can shake a stick at.

Their successors, the Champions games, are great co-op titles too.

Is there a PS2 or PS3 version available of Sacred 2? I thought it was an Xbox 360 exclusive?

Yep, I got a Champions of Norrath game. Didn't get around to actually playing it, since by the time I got my hands on a 2nd hand version, my PS3 had already arrived at the scene and this one sort of moved to the backlog. Maybe I should take it out and kick my hubby into playing something else besides Civ Rev.
