I'm not sure how "new" this news is, but I came across it this morning. It appears the production company SHAFT (http://www.vampirebund.com/) will be producing the anime version of Dance in the Vampire Bund (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10948).
Normally I don't want anything to do with stories of the loli persuasion, but I thoroughly enjoy this manga currently being released by Seven Seas (http://www.gomanga.com/manga/danceinthevampirebund.php).

I wonder what theyll use for censoring in this version since rosario vampire took the bats from the list for some of the scenes that are going to be covered of editted out completely.

The original annoucement is probably about a month-or-so old, but I'm fairly certain that anime-style image of Hime is extremely recent.
Website be here, btw: Linku (http://www.vampirebund.com/). (Probably not the most work-safe page.)
I was pretty excited by this news, as well. The manga itself is decent, plus I'm a big SHAFT/Shinbo fan. That the comic series is actually available in the US, and given the general popularity of vampire-themed anime/manga, also gives me hope the anime could eventually get licensed.

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised at an anime version, but SHAFT is an interesting turn.

It's among my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. I'm in love with the Student Council President. And the bonus Vampire Maid 4-koma.

Sold.
As for the main title it seems like a good fit for Shaft. We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

News = win! It's second on my list of "Seven Seas manga that I'm collecting and really enjoying that hasn't been animated but damn well deserves to be!" (No prizes for guessing which one is first on said list.)
Besides, more Shaft + Shinbo anime is always a good thing. And I anticipate a number of in-show references to Moon Phase, since, y'know, it just has to happen. :P

That does sound like a winning combination. On that note, hold on a second here. *Checks official site link and then checks cover for volume 1 of the manga*
So if I'm looking correctly, they changed her from pink to blond and changed the color of the ribbons?

Probably by FUNi since they seem to have an affinity towards SHAFT properties.

I remember this being announced some time ago. I also remember this as being a manga that Seven Seas is releasing.
This title didn't register to me as a title that was very popular and would warrant an anime adaptation, but given that one of the main characters is a loli vampire, I would imagine that the potential to do well is there...

...especially if she looks like that.
Loli characters generally aren't my thing, but oh man, I actually felt my resolve wavering a little bit. XD I've only seen pictures of her in the manga's covers (where I believe she is more fully clothed), so I wasn't expecting that.

Yup—see here (http://fast.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-03/dance-in-the-vampire-band-manga-gets-tv-anime-green-lit), something I discovered after I sent the E-mail message informing a friend of the news. :sd: See also Nozomu Tamaki's ANN entry (http://fast.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=38544) for links to more artwork, much of it NSFW.
For the non-Lolita lovers, Hime does have a very adult form which she occasionally displays.

Err—not to those people who are unfamiliar with the series, of which there seem to be a few who have already posted. :sd:
Edit: also, wtf is a Vampire Bund?
It's a reference to The Bund (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bund) of Shanghai, which is used as a metonym for the Shanghai International Settlement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_International_Settlement) as a whole (which sheltered numerous refugees, including White Russians, Chinese, and Jews), which in turn represents a concession (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concession_(territory)); in this case (IIRC) the Vampire Bund is an extraterritorial district (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraterritoriality).

Edit: also, wtf is a Vampire Bund?
It makes use of both definitions of 'bund':
1 -- a league or confederation, or a political organization (though with negative connotations from its use in the German-American Bund, a former pro-Nazi organization in pre-WWII U.S.)
From the fact that the vampires have set up their own semi-autonomous country to live in separately from humans.
2 -- in India and the Far East, an embankment or quay, or an embanked road along a waterfront. Most notable as an historical waterfront district in Shanghai.
From the fact that their 'country' is a manmade island in Tokyo Bay.

One thing I note is that unlike many Vampire anime, this does not seem to be squeemish about the more unpleasant details of bloodsucking.
And in light of what I see under the Mania search box...ABSOLUTELY NO SPARKLING!
Seems as though Shaft's recently fascination with using 2.35 aspect ratios is here to stay. Using that for something made for TV is retarded, but I'm sure they think they're being sophisticated and artistic by doing it.
The show almost seems like a cross between Tsukuyomi and Zetsubou with a unique third ingredient mixed in. I'm looking forward to it.

The anime's looking nice..or as nice as a show can look from such a brief trailer.
There's an interesting scene from the fourth collected volume in that clip. I'm curious if it got any reaction from those not reading the manga.
In terms of the lack of nipples on loli Mina, though, that's actually consistent with the book. Volume #1 was slightly more explicit, but the manga-ka cut-down on detailing her chest as the series progressed (at least, going by the four books currently available stateside).

So her running around in a cape and panties is...normal for her?

More like her clothes getting torn apart is normal. Regardless, if the anime follows the manga, then there's going to be a decent amount of scenes where she's naked or close to it.

Apart from the countdown at the very beginning, this looks absolutely nothing like anything I'd expect Shaft to be involved with, ever. In fact I had to go look on ANN because I was sure Shinbou wouldn't be the director. But he is.
This should be quite interesting.

Near the end of the trailer, it's the scene with a werewolf biting-off Mina's head.
With the way it's presented, the sequence doesn't have much impact, and probably wouldn't standout unless you've read the manga. I just thought it was kinda interesting to include this particular portion in the first trailer.

Can't say I have much opinion on her nudity either way; although, she's often drawn more attractively when clothed.
In terms of nipples and whatnot, I'm curious to see how the series handles adult-female nudity. Not that there's tons in Bund, but when nude women do appear, the mangaka doesn't shy away from drawing them in detail...well, at least their breasts anyway.
It's nothing like Zetsubou.
And you know this because you just came back from watching it in the future right? I was referring mostly to the visual style in the beginning of the trailer for the record. It strongly reminded me of Moon Phase for some reason. The atmosphere seems like it will be similar to Bakemono as Fencedude pointed out.

Sometimes it's just the cape. Other times, nothing at all, such as one uncomfortable and rather gratuitous scene in volume 4 of the manga that I keep running into scans or descriptions of when people talk about the series.

I personally take issue mainly with the strange context of the scene in question. There are plenty of reasons for Mina to end up naked (such as no reason at all), but the setup for the thing came across as ridiculous and somehow slightly unsettling. I guess it's kind of hypocritical of me to single out any scene as being "unsettling" considering the broader issue at hand here (getting enjoyment from a manga that uses loli-service as one of its main draws), but there you have it.

I'm totally cool with naked loliservice as long as the naked loli is naked of her own volition, or if said nakedness isn't something that greatly concerns her. If the nakedness is against her will/forced upon her unwillingly, then I start to question it. Well, I guess that goes for nakedness and erotic content in general, I guess.
Even then it depends on the presentation of the scene and type of story it is, of course. I wouldn't judge comedic fanservice as seriously as other fanservice, certainly.

The scene in question deals with the three remaining pure-blood male vampires discussing the fact that Mina, as the only remaining pure-blood female vampire, has no choice but to bear children with one of them in order to maintain the species. As part of this, to make sure she's still a virgin as well as simply to humiliate her since they all have nothing but disdain for her, she is stripped naked, strapped down with her legs spread, and left there after the examination for a bit while the three guys sit and stare.
In addition, the kicker is the same as it is in all unsettling situations: the reactions. For example, I've always found the scene in the first arc of When They Cry where Keiichi is slamming Rena's fingers in the door to be very disturbing because the whole time she's sobbing and telling Keiichi she's sorry, whereas if she were in crazy creepy mode and shouting that she was going to kill him it really wouldn't have bothered me at all. Here, we've got the creepy guys, several of the protagonists who are very distressed about the whole thing, and Mina herself who has her first genuine "I'm not the hyper-confident loli-vampire queen I seem to be" moment in the series as a result. It'd be significantly different if during the "examination" she had her trademark wry grin on her face and was hurling sarcastic comments about the guys getting off on that sort of thing, but that's very much not the case. Plus, with the manga itself being played very straight, pretty much the only broad context for the whole thing to be taken in is a serious one.
Well, I'll leave it to folks who want to read the spoilery bits to decide for themselves what they think.

Besides that scene, I found the depictions of vampire attacks to be somewhat unsettling as well. While I'm used to series playing up the sexual aspect of vampires, particularly in female oriented works where they're portrayed romantically, here its very much a violation.

Since I plan to watch this I didn't read the spoilers, but from the untagged bits it's not too hard to guess at the general direction. I suppose I won't worry about it, though. Nothing to do but watch the show and see. I imagine the anime would be tamer than the manga anyway.

How do they keep getting work? I mean even supposing a person actually likes their style everything they've done in the last 7 or so years is completely derivative of their own previous work beyond simply having a familiar "sound."
Well, I'll leave it to folks who want to read the spoilery bits to decide for themselves what they think.
While that does sound disturbing, it also sounds interesting. If the point was to produce a strong reaction from the reader then it sounds like it succeeds very well. So long as there is a payoff dramatic and disturbing moments can really deepen your emotional involvement with a story so I usually welcome them even if the particular scene creeps me out a bit.
I think I may add this to my list of manga to check out. I promised myself I couldn't buy anymore until I read the 20+ volumes of Negima I bought all at once though, so I suppose I'll be finding out how good this really is sometime in the year 2014 at the rate I'm going right now.

Well, I got around to reading the volumes I had finally (1-3) and I have to say... there's a lot of nudity in this manga. More than I expected. Also it seems like every female other than Mina sports DD or larger breasts. Vera and Nero are definitely my favorites which is rather strange since Nero has made only one appearance in the main story line that I can remember. Nelly and Nella have both had their time in the sun (so to speak), but Nero is regulated to 4-koma which works well for me.
I just hope the anime keeps the 4-koma shorts at the end of each episode. The N-maid squad is very entertaining (Nella, Nelly, Nero, Nanami?)

Hmm...I can see how this can make it even more disturbing as example pick any scene from now and then here and there involving the children interacting. Because they are all not crazy and seem like normal children except for being soldiers and kidnapping other children it makes the scenes insanely more disturbing. She may be going for that here though...and trying to remind her readers that the vampieres including her main character are actually evil (if so than it really isn't gratuitous). Or not not having read it I can't say.
