I'm trying to install Siren on my HD, bought the Asian version cause I wanted it on disc. When I got it it installed on my 60 gig HD without any issues.

After upgrading my HD, it seems this is the only game I cant install again... the install just freezes. The orange light in front where you see HD activity goes dead and there is no movement/sound from the PS3. It just totally hangs.

I can still hit the PS button on the controller to quit the game. After I quit the game, it is just a blank screen... does not go back to the interface. Then I need to hold the on/off button down till the beeps and shuts down.

I still have not tried installing the game on another machine. I doubt the disc is bad since it has no scratches on it at all. I bought the game new from playasia and only installed it once and kept the game in the case till now.

I am thinking bad sectors on my HD or the disc drive dying on me... but the drive still works for other games/movies and I can install other stuff on my HD.

Note: I am having difficulties starting Home thou... it wont initiate after I downloaded all the files. Another reason why I think it is HD related.

removing it and connecting it to a USB (or 2.5-3.5 SATA) adapter hooked to a PC is one possibility. Then you can scan the drive using Windows, but only if it gets properly recognized first. If you're prompted to format the drive before Windows can read from it, don't proceed.

Perhaps it would be easier to mount the drive using a computer with a Linux OS? I'm not speaking from personal experience, it's just a thought.

Or even better, use a boot disc with a drive check utility. Look up hirens or ultimate boot CD - you can either burn CDs with them or put them on a bootable USB stick.

Thanks, I'll give those a try.

I was able to get on Home but still no go with the install for Siren.

I can quick format the HD with the PS3 o/s but when I try to do a full complete format it hangs. So I am thinking bad HD... yet when I try to install Siren again from a clean quick reformatted HD Siren still won't install. But I have not tried other programs/games to install...

I'll try installing it on a different machine, if it doesnt work then data rot on the disc is the only thing I can think of.

got my new replacement HD today from dell... they sent it via next day air.

got it installed and did the standard quick format to get the ps3 booted up. then selected a full complete format of the HD... its taking 28 hours plus to do it, which I find amazingly long.

so far so good 13% in, hope it'll finish by the next night.

my previous 500 gig HD wouldnt allow me to do a full complete format so it is looking like the HD was bad... but for some reason it would let me do a quick format. also I plugged in my old 60 gig HD and was able to reinstall Siren on it... so it isnt a problem with the game disc.
