Animenewsnetwork and sankaku reports that Mahoromatic will be getting a two-part special. Anyone heard what this is going to be about? Is this something like the summer special where it is just ecchi hijinks? Or perhaps are they going animate one of the missing manga chapters that they never did animate (for example, they could introduce Shikijou's sister or Minawa's imouto). Or better still, they could animate the 2nd half of the last volume to show what happens to characters in the distant future.

Considering its age that I am quite surprised about this announcement. But at least they revisited this series.
Yeah, if this is in the same continuity as the rest of the anime, it'll either have to be a flashback that took place in the middle of the series, or an expanded ending, going in to what happened with all the characters...
...or maybe it'll be an adaptation of the way the manga ended? (Even though it really isn't *that* much different from the Anime... but it is a relatively happier ending)

Makes my day. One of my faves, and 5 of my favorite characters.

According to a post at the evil forums it will be called Mahoromatic ~Tadaima◇Okaeri~. It's also considered to be a side story taking place shortly after the start of season 2...
Right outta left field.......
If this is to gauge interest to produce a third television series then I'm excited. As a standalone production I'm happy of course but would rather get a new tv series. I honestly don't know if source material exists for a new season, but it's not as if that has ever stopped a studio when they really wanted to.

I can't imagine they're even considering a third series. The show's got a pretty definitive ending afterall.
I can only imagine that some folks at Gainax were just sitting around and when said they wanted to do some more Mahoromatic and it somehow went into production.

There's not enough material for a 3rd season. Then again they could always remake it (and they did do a remake for relatively recent anime like Kanon and Full metal Alchemist).
So from the looks of it, it is going to be like the Summer Special. Lots of ecchi hijinks but no real development to the storyline.

Hijinks was what the show did best so it works just fine for me.

Actually, there are different views on exactly what the tv ending really meant. I'm in the happy ending (relatively) camp myself, and I know I'm not completely alone here.
To actually make more material after the last episode, the creators would have to actually come clean on exactly what the ending meant, and I don't think they have yet. At least, we argue like they haven't.

I'm actually wondering if it's going to be released separately, or only as part of the boxset(s). But I suppose if sales of the Blu-Rays prove well above expectations... weirder things have happened, anyway.

I hope it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was only included in the BD boxset. I'm interested in getting the specials, but I'll never pay R2 prices for the entire show, given how it ended.

Ditto. But TV series or not, as long as we get to see more Mahoromatic, then I'll be a happy man. It seems like it's been ages since they produced the last Mahoromatic, and it will be interesting to see how their take on the series has evolved in that time. Maybe better animation? Better character designs? Another unique Gainax spin on the series?
In any case, it's great to see more of this show.
