I just bought Tekken: DRO and I'm disappointed that the community is filled with a bunch of trash talking losers. I heard all fighting games are like this so I guess I will not try them online any more. I am looking for games where I can just have fun and make friends. You know. A friendly online community. Thanks in advance.

I'd say killzone 2 is you like shooters, fat Princess off the psn store, or littlebigplanet

Funny you should mention this. Playstation: The Official Magazine has an article on this in the September issue (that I just read). According to them, Resident Evil 5 has the best online community, since the partner system plays a crucial role in the game.

I've found that, in general, if you enter a game with an inoffensive, talkative friend (someone you know to not be a jerk, no matter how badly they're losing), and if you maintain a humorous commentary or discussion while playing, other people with headsets will be more likely to adopt the tone of your exchange, leading to a fun experience for all. This seems to happen regardless of the game being played or the time of day.

If you play solo and you're disinclined to strike up a conversation with total strangers, as is the case with me, then unless you find another friendly group by chance, the only thing you're likely to hear is trash-talk. But at least it's semi-mature trash-talk.

I want to get to playing my littlebigplanet online. I'm glad to hear it has a friendly community. Resident Evil 5 doesn't really interest me.

Red Hamster, I don't really have many friends on PSN yet, I'll probably make some in littlebigplanet though.

If you're interested in adding people from AoD, many of us have provided our PSN names in this thread (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=67373).

I just tried littlebigplanet. I'm disappointed that pretty much no one has mics in the game. Does Killzone 2 have a lot of people with mics?

Look, no offense, but you are talking about online play. People are going to talk **** while online regardless of who they are. It does not matter if it is Live or PSN, 80% of those that play online talk **** and will get pissed when you beat them in a game.

As for mics, only about 15% of the people that play wear mics. Hell, my bluetooth will not work on the PS3 for some reason. I can hear people talking, but no one is able to hear me, and I do not know why.

It may be worth double-checking your audio device settings. The input and output sources are set independently of each other in the XMB configuration menu, even if the device supports both features when it is initially paired. (I assume this is so that you could use a USB microphone and get game-sound-mixed output)

I don't mean to presume that you haven't looked into this issue already. It's just that the Bluetooth-headset-related options are spread across two not-necessarily-intuitively-linked pages, so you may have missed one.

Running into a similar problem with Fat Princess. If people don't communicate in that game, it isn't any fun.

But, when they do, it's a blast.

Red_HamsterX, if you want to add me. I can be on with but a single message.

Can the PS3 not do dedicated server-esque things, so you can diffrentiate between casual and harder players? It isn't just a case of you log on and are connected to any random server with a random variety of skill?

They should at least make it so people with detected headsets all go to the same server : /

At least -something- should be learnt from the years of PC gaming!

People play online games to prove their skill against other players. If they wanted to talk they'd go to a bar or find someone offline, much easier.

Wipeout has a number of mic wielding individuals but you're lucky to get more than two words out of them.

^Wipeout supports mics? I played it with my friend and we couldn't communicate with each other, yet we could hear each other on littlebigplanet and Tekken.

Deadly Messiah, I disagree with you to a point. You are right that all games are going to have trash talk, but some games DO have less trash talking people than others. I know this from 5 years of experience on Xbox live. An example of a game with tons of trash talking people would be Halo 2. An example of a game with a good online community would be Project Gotham racing 2.

All I'm trying to do is MINIMIZE the problem of ass holes online, not eliminate it completely, because that would be impossible. I'm just saying there are games with more friendly communities than others.

I don't think the game you are playing makes that much of a difference. I think you just have to play enough that you find someone you like and add them to your friends list. Rinse and repeat. Eventualy you will have a nice pool of non-assholes to play with.

Although I can't vouch for it personally yet, Demon's Souls seems like a game with a good community; even if it's only quasi-online. Of course there's also people INVADING your game, but you could say that's also a part of the community.
