Somehow, I'm left feeling like this was all some April Fool's day joke. Only, it's not April. I had such a strange reaction of "what the heck!?" to "LOL" to "this looks pretty cool." Looking further into it though, it isn't some joke. Really, what through me off was the English that was being spoken. Assuming that it actually turns out to be good, it really would be nice if MangaGamer did pick this up. I'm actually kind of interested to see what it's like.

Ahahaha, oh wow, that looks so terrible and so awesome at the same time.
And apparently the game's creators think that "childhood friend" is synonymous with "girlfriend".

That's not an entirely accurate translation of the title. Osananajimi ha Daitouryou, of course, literally means "My Childhood Friend is the President." But it's not the first time.

I don't think Alcot is part of MangaGamer. The designs look nice, although I generally don't play gag games.

Quality preview CG right there (http://www.alcot.biz/product/osana/images/grp/osa_007.jpg). The other CGs seem nice though. Sadly, the game is going to be created in 800x600 (low-budget eroge companies continue to fail to realize it's 2009...).
Based purely on character designs, I'm torn between the Chief of Staff (http://www.alcot.biz/product/osana/banner/banner_i_4.jpg), the President of Nippon (http://www.alcot.biz/product/osana/banner/banner_i_1.jpg), and the Starship (http://www.alcot.biz/product/osana/banner/banner_i_3.jpg). The President of Russia isn't really doing much for me. Well, I don't plan on importing it in any case.

YES WE CAN!!
Game of the Year.
So nobody else noticed the bridge of the "spaceship" was a perfect ripoff of the Enterprise bridge from Star Trek TOS?
You know you're looking at a great game when the panda wearing glasses strikes you as one of the most normal things about it.

I was kinda of shocked when I saw that that the exterior didn't borrow more for the ST universe as that was what I expected with that bridge design.

I liked how the narration is in English except they randomly use Nippon instead of Japan.

Putting the voiceover and the subtitles together, they seem to be "loli-type" aliens.

After downloading the trailer and watching it again, I love how a side character comes in at the end and wants to know where she was.

Combining two of my favorite things...politics and lolis.
Well, we could also wait until an enterprising American creates a doujin VN with moe Biden-tan and...getting too ahead of myself? Ok, sorry.

This game is hilarious. It really does appear to be just what one would expect. The voice acting is pretty good and the music is very presidential.
On the other hand, the background CGs are a too simplistic and linear. The faces in the character portraits could be more expressive. Lastly, several of the scenes use CG for transitions and, well, it's not very good CG.
Somebody posted a screenshot from this game on GAF today, but it had English text. I immediately went hunting on the internets to see what I could find and found somebody had fan-translated the demo already and was working on the full game.

Yeah. The demo is out there, but, to be honest, after getting past the first hour or so, I was kind of bored. There were some funny jokes, but it's a pretty typical AVG. The trailer is awesome though.

They need an option where all the girls in the game are voiced by the trailer narrator.
Even during sex scenes. *
I can't actually remember if this has sex scenes, but whatever.

Wow, I never expected that to actually happen. I'm looking forward to it.
This is the first time I've seen JAST license a game from viral Youtube hype.
JAST's site also says:
Speaking of which, we’re currently in the process of planning three major announcements for the coming months, with one each being unveiled in December, January, and February. Stay tuned for our holiday season announcement within the next couple of weeks – we think it’ll be something worth waiting for.

So this must be the December announcement.

Not to start a firestorm, but should I worry about any censorship?

Well, "major" for JAST is fairly different from major for me. MG tends to get all the titles I would consider major. That leaves August, Aquaplus/Leaf, Key, & Typemoon. I'm also pretty fond of Windmill Oasis and I wouldn't mind seeing Honey Coming licensed either (H20, UNiSONSHIFT, ...). Realistically, I doubt JAST has the funds to license any of the big titles (and they've said as much in the past). Plus, they tend to go for the more ero-heavy titles. I would be ecstatic if Happiness/Shukufuku no Campanella were one of them (might be doable and both are high on ero but I don't know).
This isn't a bad pick, certainly. Even if I think the trailer was better than the demo.
Not to start a firestorm, but should I worry about any censorship?
No idea. JAST has been inconsistent on that point.

so the fan translation dead then or did Jast just buy it for use?

The posts on the JAST forums seem to indicate they'll be using the fan translation, and that'll be out quite soon since the fan translation is nearly 100% complete/polished. The TLWiki page for the game seems to indicate this, too.

Speaking of fan translations, JAST just announced they picked up Eien no Aselia (http://vndb.org/v74). Apparently, though, they're re-translating it.
This will be the non-adult version, (http://www.jastusa.com/journey-to-phantasmagoria-in-aselia-the-eternal) which is kind of odd considering the company but whatever.

Thats cause the version that was fan translated was the non-adult version.
I doubt they are doing a "re-translate"... more like reedit of the fan translation.

You argue with the press release then "featuring an all new English translation produced under the close supervision of Xuse."

To add, the FAQ forum thread in the links section of the blog press release mentions:
As part of the contract with Xuse we are using a translation they have produced and we will be quality checking and developing independently for our PC release.
As for the game itself, I may check it out.

Jast? No all their games has been ergo... only 1 game had mosaics and it had a 2nd version without any... 2nd version without any sold tons more. Thats why they wont ever release a game with mosaics in it (hence Cleavage was nix'd till they find clean images).
They did maybe license or buy copies of a JP game that had English support, Casual Romance Club, I think that was the title but that had mosaics as well.
Jast does sell other games by other companies that isnt hentai/bishoujo/eroge but none they ever invested $ into licensing and translating.
