PS2, Dreamcast Games May Come to PSN, Says Apparently Leaked Doc (http://kotaku.com/5364828/ps2-dreamcast-games-may-come-to-psn-says-apparently-leaked-doc)
I'd still like to see more HD collections on BR disc like the God of War Collection. I'm crossing my fingers for the 3 GTA PS2 games & 2 GTA stories games on 1 BR disc! :D

It's not confirmed yet. I'll wait for confirmation so that I'm not disappointed.
What's not specified (and won't be until Sony's damn'd good and ready) is whether the PS2 games will each contain their own emulation engine or use an installed general-purpose emulator. By building the emulator into the PSN-downloaded games, they provide compatibility for that specific game without allowing the gamers to pop in their pre-existing PS2 discs (something I think Sony prefers, based on past behavior); a general-purpose emulator might be less trouble but won't necessarily drive the customers to buy PS2 games via PSN.
I never owned a Dreamcast — only ChuChu Rocket and Space Channel 5 ever gave me even the slightest reason to want one, and I changed my mind once I tried that godawful controller — so I don't think I can comment intelligently on whether it's worth it to Sony to emulate DC games.

I'm curious how the backwards compatibility issue will be dealt with as well. Right now, PS1 games bought off the PSN behave exactly the same as PS1 games played off the disc, as neither supports the XMB overlay. Hopefully, Sony's solution will just be to release an all-purpose BC fix, and then go to the PSN for PS2 downloads. Otherwise, that's a lot of wasted HDD space if you have to download the emulator with every single PSN PS2 game you download.
As for the Dreamcast games, I don't give a damn. The only Dreamcast games I cared about (Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2) I already have on platforms that work just fine with them (GC and PC).

The Record of Lodoss War remains the best Diablo clone ever made. I put so many hundreds of hours into that thing, it wasn't even funny. Not that it would EVER make PSN. Actually, for as few DC games as there were, there sure were a lot of good ones.

I don't want this. I want PS3 - upscaled/remastered releases. Not this. Please no : (

I'm not at all surprised about PS2 games coming to PSN, I think that should have started happening awhile ago. Dreamcast games though, that's a bit of an eyebrow raiser.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem with PS2 re-releases would be. It's not like it would prevent them from releasing PS3 games. Or are you mainly talking about upscaled PS2 games?

I'm confident we'll see more remastered PS3 disc versions of PS2 classics. I would have added "if the God of War Collection sells well" but let's face it, it will.
PS2's library is epic-huge and not many of those titles are going to warrant a remastered PS3 disc. Some people have expressed that they would like to see Shadow of the Colossus as a remastered PS3 disc. I don't know how likely that is to happen but if PS2 downloading takes off there's a decent chance Colossus will make it there at some point. Now when Naughty Dog gets ready to release Jak 4, there's a decent chance we'll get a remastered PS3 disc for the PS2 Jak games.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about PS2 games updated for better appearance on HDTVs.
I don't think this negates that, expect big name series to get releases like that.

Hopefully other big name franchises will get the HD treatment. *coughcoughGTAseriescoughcough* :D

I would hope that it's a general-purpose emulator.
Hell, they could sell it on PSN for $14.95, and plenty would buy it, if only to get rid of the console and controllers that adds cabling and takes up space in their entertainment centers.
...a general-purpose emulator might be less trouble but won't necessarily drive the customers to buy PS2 games via PSN.
Selling the PS2 as a console alongside the PS3 also won't drive customers to PSN.
The problem is, they get good profit on the PS2 console sales...and then they watch those same customers buy a 360 to go along with that PS2. Offering a option of BC on the PS3 would let them capture some of those customers back, when they're shopping for a replacement to a dead PS2.
Slap the backwards compat program on a disc, and stick it in the PS3 Slim box, and offer the same program for free to previous Slim buyers when they enter their console serial number on a special Sony DL site.
Sony is just going to have to deal with the reality that people have large PS2 game collections, and that's gonna impact their PSN sales whether they like it or not. They need to leverage those large PS2 game collections into PS3 console sales.
Hell, this is Sony. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

That's the problem, of course. Between its handling of compatibility on the PS3 and SCEA's new announcement of no games upgrade program for PSP Go customers, Sony's become a very customer-hostile company in the past couple of years. Or at least a very clueless company. One thing I think, though, is that if Sony did offer a PS2 emulator on the PS3, they wouldn't charge $15 for it. They'd charge $99.99.

I'm sure they would like to, but the way I see it, they've been consistently unable to create reliable PS2 emulation on the PS3; to the extent that they've concluded they can't honestly market the system on its BC. The PSN versions seem like an attempt to salvage what they can of the PS2 library for the PS3.

Is the PS2 emulation really that unreliable? I realize my PS2 collection isn't exactly vast (~40 titles), but they all play just fine in my 80GB PS3.
Well, except for Guitar Hero 1 and 2, but that's not exactly a problem with the emulation -- it's more a matter of not having a PS2 controller port for those guitars.

I loved that game. My brother always hated watching me play, because I had these iron boots to prevent knockdown, that were absurdly loud.

I don't think that's true. The emotion engine chip does good work for me and even the 80GB model with software-based BC keeps pace fairly well.

Unless you want to play a game made by XSEED or Midway, in which case you're ****ed. *grumble*Wild Arms 4 & 5, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Shadow Hearts: From the New World*grumble*

I pretty much have all the JP/US PS2 games that i want so it won't matter for me if they offer them on PSN. Of course, for upgraded games then i am all for it ! say if Metal Gear Solid 1-3 gets a similar treatment like the GC's MSG 1 :catgirl:
For Dreamcast, i am definitely interested as that there are couple of decent games that i would like to play on the PS3 instead of my old dying consoles such as: Shinmue 1,2 , Berserk, and Jojo Bizzare, Capcom vs SNK 1.....well assuming that the proposed deal is for all DC games not just SEGA's ?

Hmm, maybe that's my problem, I'm just playing exactly the wrong games. But even things like Persona 4, where your location isn't displayed; or Eternal Poison, where sometimes only the first line of dialogue is shown... it's not "unplayable" by any means, but it's an annoyance, and a strike against the BC....

After pondering this rumour for a while, I too would like to get on the DC games bandwagon only because I can't be bothered to hunt down a copy of Rival Schools 2 and Tech Romancer for the DC.

My guess would be mostly SEGA games. Although if it were all Dreamcast games, I would be ecstatic. I have three Dreamcast so I'm not exactly in trouble as far as playing my old games go, but only having to have two or three console hooked up would be nice. Right now I have a Saturn (US/JP toggle), two Dreamcast, PS2 (JP), Xbox, Xbox 360, and PS3 hooked up to my TV. Cutting out a few systems would always be nice.
