I was just looking at future blu-rays on CDJapan when I came across the Japanese release of Animatrix. Here's the specs they listed:

I purchased just the single [US] release of The Matrix on blu-ray and not the [US] The Ultimate Matrix Collection which included The Animatrix. I was wondering for anyone who's seen the blu-ray release how things match up & any A/V quality comments.

Warner never re-encodes anything, so this should be more or less identical to the other versions of The Animatrix in terms of A/V. If there is a difference between releases in different regions it's usually just in terms of subtitle languages.

I have the UK stand-alone version of it (which can be had for a lot less than the Japanese) and it has 5.1 TrueHD audio for both English and Japanese, English dubtitles as well as English subtitles for the Japanese audio. Unfortunately both English subtitle tracks are HoH ones so there are some sound effects in brackets as well as identifiers to who's speaking when it's not obvious. It's not that bad, but it's kind of a slap in the face when the other languages like French and Dutch have proper subtitles for both tracks.

Video quality is great and as good as it's ever going to get since they were all animated digitally.
