With the Scrapped Princess Complete Collection on its way to me, it's just come to my attention that it's been a whopping 4 years since I bought the first volume. Anyone else put a series on extended hold? If so, why?

For myself, I kept meaning to finish the series at some point, but I kept getting sidetracked by both older and newer titles that I wanted even more. I liked what I saw of the first four episodes of the series, but they never really completely grabbed me. Since I've bought most of the stuff that I really wanted and several titles are still months away, I found this to be the perfect opportunity to pick the show up again before I get distracted once more.

Hmm.. maybe not so much "putting off" as "not getting around to", and it's not a show, but I bought Pom Poko on DVD the day it was released, and I have yet to watch it. That was four years ago.

Also InuYasha: Fire on the Mystic Island, which I got on its release date in 2006. I've had the Project A-ko OVAs in my backlog for years, though I have watched the original movie. I also haven't watched The Place Promised in Our Early Days or 5cm per Second yet, the latter of which I got on its release date in 2007.

I want to watch all of them (otherwise why would I have bought them?), but I just haven't taken the time yet to sit down for any of them. When it comes to anime series though, I'm usually pretty good about watching them before they have a chance to sit in my backlog for very long. This explains why there are only three anime series in my backlog currently, but eleven OVAs/movies. :sd:

Heh, I have alot of those.

Last disc of Ergo Proxy
I've only watched 1 dsc each of Witch Hunter Robin, Witch Blade, and Ranarok.
Also, the second season of Gravion.

I also have quite a few sets I bought on the cheap, without knowing anything about them, and haven't bothered to try out at all.

Like Wandaba Style, Serial Experiments Lain, and Popotan.

If i actually had my collection in front of me, I could probably point out 5-10 more too

As for why? I dunno. I suppose alot of the time I'm in the mood for something specific, so it's easier to grab a known quantity off the shelf than an unknown and hope for the best.

I WILL get around to everything one day though. No, really....

Wow, if I knew the answer for why I hold things off? I guess it's cause newer things come in and take my attention instead?

Basically...
Wolf's Rain, after the 1st disc.
Dai-Guard, after the 1st disc.
Devil Lady, last disc.
Mahoramatic, basically all of it.
Negima!?, half of it.
Le Chevlier D'Eon, half of it.
Utawarerumuno, 2 more discs to go.
Gatchaman, a little less than half to go.

That's only a few shows listed.

I remember I held off finished the 2nd half of Scrapped Princess for a long time. I thought it was a good show but other things pushed it away. I am starting to get better at keeping my attention to shows until I finish them these days.

Looking over at my collection, I noticed a few titles I've started or got halfway through only to leave them alone. Most of the time, it's because I'd get sidetracked by other shows or I'd lose interest. I'll eventually get back to 'em sooner or later.

Crest of the Stars - got about halfway through the series, but for some reason I stopped watching and didn't feel compelled to continue with it. I'll get back to it someday, when I'm in the mood for it.
Banner of the Stars - After three years, it still sits in the backlog unwatched, since I still haven't finished Crest. Still need to pick up Banner II, for that matter.
Gatchaman - I bought the first collection when it came out, but never went after the later volumes. It's only recently that I got 'round to picking up the rest of the series.
Great Teacher Onizuka - picked up the R4 box set about two years ago, and I've only watched two volumes so far.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig - I watched three episodes and lost interest in the show. Not sure when I'll get back to that one.
GaoGaiGar - Still haven't finished the second collection. Can't even remember where I left off, either.
Patlabor - Same situation as with GaoGaiGar. I watched a huge chunk of the tv series, but got sidetracked and never got back to it. Now I can't remember which episode I watched last. I still need to watch the ova too.

For this semester I've cut my anime-watching time by 80%, which means that the shows that I started during the summer will be put on hold, or watched in small doses on my laptop.

They include:

Utawarerumono
When They Cry
Rocket Girls

I've been stalled on volume two of Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig since it came out. I keep thinking I need to track down the rest, but never get around to it.

Otherwise the usual backlog difficulties, although I've still managed not to see the last episode of Cowboy Beebop. I can't quite justify buying the whole thing (even in collected form) for just one episode, even though I know it would be worthwhile. :sd:

HOO BOY, I'm guilty of this. In terms of oldest, I bought Wolf's Rain Part 1 boxset and the complete .Hack/Sign boxset in 2007, and have yet to watch any of them (at least I'm justified in WR, since I want to watch it all at around the same time, but don't have Part 2, and may just buy the complete boxset at this point).

Others I've owned for quite a while, but yet to watch: Samurai 7, Heroic Age, Rahxephon, Darker than Black (mainly because I need the last two volumes), Berserk, Fate/Stay Night, Gad Guard, Slayers Season 2, and Yu Yu Hakusho Seasons 2-4. At least should if I should be forced to halt my DVD buying for financial reasons or such, I'll have a nice backlog to jump into.

Hmmm....

There's quite a few shows that I have that I haven't seen past at least the first one or two DVD volumes.

"Urusei Yatsura TV" is probably the oldest title that were sitting the longest, and I still haven't finished watching it. I bought all of the tv box sets as they were coming out, but I still haven't finished Box 5 as of yet ("UY" tv volume 29 thru 50 are still in their shrink-wrap).

Some of the other shows are:

"Card Captor Sakura" - I bought the entire series from TRSI when they bundled all the 18 singles and sold them as a pack. I never opened it.

"SuperGals:Season2" - Never went beyond the first disc.

"X - TV" - Still have the initial Geneon releases with the box and the individual volumes with their slipcover still on them.

There are a few more Pioneer/Geneon, CPM, and BANDAI shows that I still haven't gotten around to it (still in their shrink-wraps). Most are either because I bought them to replace my VHS versions, and others were complementory gifts from the companies, themselves.
