View Full Version : Urusei Yatsura Animation Studio Question

Hi, all. Kind of an esoteric question for you. Does anybody know the exact point when Urusei Yatsura changed animation studios from Studio Pierrot to Studio DEEN? I've read that it switched studios halfway through, but does anybody know an exact episode when the switch occurred?
Any help from you old school fans would be much appreciated.

Hmmm, I think the very first episode done by Studio DEEN was episode 107 (with a title of 'Dimensional Switch, Where's Darling?', or something similar) with an air date of April 11, 1984. I can't swear to it with 100% certainty, but I'm pretty sure that was when the switch occurred.

That's also where Mamoru Oshii left the show, and chief-directing switched to Kazuo Yamazaki (and the character design is indetectably different), so it's likely the entire show got an overhaul--
"Dimensional" was the first episode of the new season, after Oshii left on the "Rescue Lum!" arc, so that's the most probable dividing line...And just happened to be one of the most iconically Yamazaki episodes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FQohZprKEY) of the entire series. :)

Thanks, guys! Always interesting to me when a show switches studios during its run.
