I found this article to be an interesting read on 1up.com:

While it isn't the first time such an article and/or observations have been written, there are some pieces that I wasn't familiar with already.

I may listen to the tunes later, but for now I'll read the article. Granted the main problem with listening to the tunes to compare is the browser seems to be random about loading them up...

All right I decided to listen to a couple of them and can see a bit of what they mean. Although the actual samples don't give much to go by.

One little bit of homage that's been on my mind lately concerns the Xenogears soundtrack. When I first heard it, I thought it was pretty unique and groundbreaking -- especially with all the Celtic inflections.

Then, a couple months ago, I picked up a copy of Irish new-age group Clannad's Atlantic Realm and found some uncanny similarities (http://webpages.charter.net/keshava/Misc/XenoClannad.mp3) to my favorite game soundtrack (Xenogears in the first part of the clip, Clannad second). Since Atlantic Realm came out in 1989 and Xenogears didn't release until 1998, there was plenty of time for some influencing to occur...
