That certainly was unique. It's funny how a late night anime is so reminiscent of the typical early morning kids slot.

The art direction is alright; it's a really bright and colorful show. So far it seems to favor comedy over plot, but the "struggles of a male kindergarten teacher" angle is pretty good. We still have a lot more time to get acquainted with and grow to care about the other characters. I couldn't help thinking throughout the episode "This is like an eroge set-up!" Sakura route, Yamamoto route, route with one of the other 2nd-year Kindergarten teachers (the glasses one seemed kind of interested in him, ww).

And you could also think of it as, "This is what Kodomo no Jikan would be like if it were completely innocent, instead of having blatant lolicon fanservice."

It wasn't as bad as I expected. It doesn't feel like a Gainax show at all, although it's hard to know until I've seen the ending. Depending on how they play it, the "I'm going to be my teacher's bride" could be creepy or just remain innocent and cute.

Absolutely adorable. It's KnJ without the ecchi-ness. The ED was very cute, especially the last part with them kissing each other. Hii-chan in her cat pajamas was definitely the cutest part of show (and of course, she's rich). What is wrong with Anzu's hair--two colors?

If you take her father's hair and her mother's hair and put them together, that's what you get. Anime genetics isn't Mendelian, I guess.

My most enjoyable episode of this season. I found the cutest to be it's biggest factor and draw. The 3 little girls got their personalities along with the 1 male their age. If they could continue where they left off for the series, this might be my favorite series of Winter 2010. How could you not love those 3 girls, especially Hiragi-chan/Hii-chan in her tiger costume with the wagging tail... KAWAII!!!

If someone thinks that, besides of being a very ridiculous statement to make after one episode, it would show how little that person knows about KnJ or how little attention he payed while reading/watching it.

Episode 1:

- Apparently kindergartners are one foot tall! And our protagonist got "rejected" already. :sd:
- Oh god, ohgodohgodohgod! Yamamoto-sensei is Hazuki Erino!! HAHI! AKARI!!
- Anzu's first two friends are awesome already.
- Poor Tsuchida-sensei. :sd: That wasn't the first impression he wanted to leave.
- Ah! But it gets better. Surprised that worked to reassure the parents. Heh.
- Hii-chan! Koume! Koumei is Mako~ Who clearly doesn't so many anime roles but I've seen all the ones she has done, like Kamichu! Yurie and Sorakake Akiha and such. Takagaki Ayahi for Hiiragi.
- Hmm, history between Tsuchi and Sakura. Love triangle ahead?
- Huh, I thought Anzu's dad would be dead or something. Guess that takes Sakura out of the running, unless we're gonna get some adultery goin' on in here. I kinda doubt it though.
- Sakura is totally okay with setting her kindergarten daughter up with Tsuchi. o_O Ten years? I think it's a bit more than that. :sd:

Teachers - awesome. The kids - awesome. Sakura's mom - awesome. Yeah, I liked this.

(Btw, all the comparisons to KnJ are... exceptionally superficial, really. At first glance they're not really alike at all.)

Awesome!!! This first episode was very cute and fun, and really liking the characters (adults and kindergartners). It's undoubtedly my favorite out of what I've seen so far this season - hopefully it keeps it up.

Her voice is so sweet. Glad she got a major role here - I want to hear more of her.

I thought this was yet another brilliant first ep for this Winter season, really fun and cute. Maybe too cute, actually, Hii-chan in the tiger outfit was kitten-licking-the-inside-of-your-brain levels of cute. ^^; She seems potentially the best of the three "main" characters from her admittedly brief involvement in the ep.

Also thought it was pretty random and funny showing us Tsuchiya being distracted by the girl walking past him as he biked home from his first day.

Crunchyroll really has come through superbly with its selection of shows this season, it seems.

Well that was a pleasent surprise - I didn't have very high expectations for this series but the first episdoe was very cute and funny and highly entertaining. Although I think that Anzu is a bit too friendly, nevertheless she's very cute and funny and I immediately liked her. Tsuchiya's not a bad protagonist either, and I like the supporting cast too.

That was really cute and very amusing.

Anzu is adorable (loooove the hair) and highly amusing, but Hiiragi is definitely my favorite of the kids. It's her personality mainly, but I'm also quite amused by her eyes. Oh, and adorable tiger pajamas are good too. Koume is fine too but she's definitely in third place.

Anzu's mom is awesome and easily the best adult character. She's also in an interesting situation, as we are seeing the happily-ever-after end of a student/teacher relationship.

The teachers haven't done much, but Kawashiro is my favorite from what I've seen of them.

Err, what does one call this? Diaper moe?
Is there any connection to potamayo what the same bicoloured ultra-deformed look?
Surprisingly I found myself smiling though this, and it is probably unique in being a school-based anime without anyone the slightest bit "fancyable" in the student cast.
You still have to wonder about Anzu's mother, leaving her along in the street then not being the least bit concerned with men "hitting on her".
Oh, I found Hii-chan's dead eyes and lack of mouth disturbing. She even sounded muffled.

Hiiragi is already the best character in the show.

Also its an entire SCHOOL of Potemayos. Which is kinda freaky.

Mania Grade: B+

In Summary:

To say that I was utterly charmed by this show would be an understatement. Something about it clicks so well and made it so enjoyable that I’m tempted to chalk some of it up to being a parent myself and remembering some of these similar experiences with my kids. Gainax hits a lot of things right here – and I was particularly pleased to see fathers showing up for the entrance ceremony since you see in a lot of other shows when they show parents that it’s typically mostly women or completely women. The kids are cute without being obnoxious, there’s some exaggeration but not much as I can say I know kids very much like Anzu, Hiiragi and Koume based on what we see of them so far and the adult cast comes across as fun and earnest in the way that many young teachers are. There’s a danger of playing up the teacher/student relationship too far, but it really depends on what the goal of the series is. Right now though, it’s like these students – full of potential.

One nice little touch is that in the flashback Tsuchida is playing a GBASP, which is just about right, assuming that the show takes place ~2009ish and the flashback was 4~5 years previous. That puts it right around when the DS either hadn't been released or had just been released.

Looks like he still can't afford a PS3 though. Maybe he's planning on getting one with his first paycheck.

And as to the PS2 and the Wii, EVERY Japanese Male between the ages of ~15 and 35 owns a Wii and PS2.

And an average of something like 3 DSes.

That was cute, but…Anzu and her mother Sakura are certifiable. And I'm not talking about used cars or website security.

Poor Tsuchida. He's just trying to be a normal guy with a normal life as a kindergarten teacher, and he gets a student who has no contact with reality (taking after her mother).

It's fun, though.

those kindergarten really so reminds of the rugrats

overall this is GREAT to watch really looking forward to see what happen next.

yet i wonder if this get english audio version must wonder how will sound like (yea i'm so like to see it get the english audio someday).

Hiiragi has potential.

Anzu has awesome hair. Heck, she's awesome in general.

And her awesomeness clearly came from her mother aka Sakura.

Sakura actually got married while still in high school and was even pregnant?

This show has definite potential as a fun and cutesy series to watch.

The ending is kind of nice.

So I decided to catch this episode while it was airing and watched it from start to finish including the ending animation. After episode 1 came up on Crunchyroll, I decided to watch that.

Then I realized something. Either I was remembering the ending of episode 2 completely wrong or this is going to be one of those series with multiple endings. If so that should be interesting.

As for the actual episode, I'll let other describe it. I'll just say that over all it enjoyable.

This epsiodes deals with Tsuuchi getting used to his job at the kindergarten and dealing with a classroom full of tiny kids. He certainly lucked out for co-workers as they're all attractive young women.I'm jealous of the awesome slide that the kindergarten which goes off of the second story of the building. I wish my school had something like that when I was a kid.

The second half was the highlight of the episode, with Hiiragi demonstrating her genius. She shows upper a second-year boy and eventually makes him her servant after winning him over with her intellect and courage. Also, more cosplay.

Lol at epic space ending credits.

I love this show so much, so many great cute and funny moments yet again. Hiiragi got to be awesome in the second part of the episode. She's pretty cool for a kindergarten genius girl. It's interesting how her eyes turned "normal" for a bit. The epic space opera ending was really nice too.

Yeah, I noticed that. Both of them were great, though, so if we have different ones every episode, that will be cool.

Yeah it's going to be like Sora no Otoshimono and have a different ED each episode, the difference being the songs in Hanamaru Kindergarten are originals and not covers like Sora no.

Anzu's voice just annoys me for some reason. I think it's too high pitched :sd:. I'm glad the second half of the episode wasn't dedicated to Anzu trying to woo Tsuchida. I liked how all the classes took on their sensei's personalities, so I'm guessing Tsucida's will be absent minded, although they already have someone like that, so he'll have to find his own niche.

Another cute, enjoyable episode. Anzu is getting a little too precociuos and imaginitive for her own good, but her cuteness factor kind of neutralizes it. Though I hope that her little "crush" on Tsuchida doesn't get too carried away.

As for the second part of the episode, I won't add any more to what others already said about Hiiragi except that we need to see more cute super-geniuses in today's anime :cool:.

Oh, and I seconded what Westlo said in that it looks like there will be different ED sequences a la SoraOto.

This show is totally my favorite of the season. From seeing the promo's, I knew it would be up there, but it's surpassed everything. Baka to Test was the show I thought I was going to prefer (but that comes a respectable second.)

I showed my housemate episode 1 and even though it was my second time watching it, he said I had a smile on my face for the entire episode. I just think it's so sweet and funny. I'm hoping Sentai pick this up, I think it would be a brilliant fit for them.

Yes, Hiiragi is the best - but I wish she had normal eyes more often. A mouth wouldn't go astray either.
I think my favourite teacher is Kakogawa, but we need to see more of her.
Why is it the kids in Tsuchi's Sakura class have tulip badges, and the kids in the 2nd year Sunflower class have Sakura badges? That's just confusing.

Haha, Hii-chan gets an underling and does an adorable little dance in cat pajamas. She's also too cute when she starts blushing or gets those stars in her eyes. Oh, and she's a genius of ridiculous proportions.

Then the episode caps things off with a hilarious ED sequence. I don't remember the previous one, but I'm sure it wasn't this.

Yamamoto-sensei (Nana-chan! Finally her first name!) is just way too hot. That nightgown was just criminal. Interesting to find out she lives with her younger sister.

And lol at her thinking guys don't like her. With assets like those, she must have had guys tripping over themselves to ask her out.

Oh wow, I'm going to need to re-watch the episode now to see those two.

Another decent episode. I never realized how big Yamamoto-sensei's assets were :sd:. Once again I like how they split the episodes up into Anzu chasing after him and an episode about a different character.

Episode 3:

- Hah, the bit with Anzu on the ladder was a very amusing way to start. Also like Anzu trying to act mature about love for her friends.
- lol, Tsuchi is talking DQ with his students.
- Now he's talking models while a kindergartner continually crawls up him. I'm sure Yamamoto-sensei is, uh... totally won over... >_>
- Maybe she was! ...Well no, it's just her personality but I wouldn't mind her tackling me either.
- oh god, Hii-sensei = awesome. Koume's adorable naivete (...actually, is it really naive when she's the only one with a normal reaction? :sd:). Anzu's... Anzuness.
- Tsuchi's reaction is awesome: "You want to kiss after throwing up?" XD
- Holy crap, Yamamoto-sensei in the morning = !@*(&#*(!@# YES. Sorry Anzu, you're 20 years too early to think of challenging that. And yay for Saitou Chiwa as her sister!
- Oh wow I thought the ep was over but it's only the halfway point.
- OH GOD HIIRAGI. <3 She reacts to compliments by dancing nervously!
- And Koume is just ripping-the-heart-out-of-my-chest-and-replacing-it-with-a-lollipop cute. <3
- Hey, points to Tsuchi for getting the courage to ask Yamamoto. Unfortunately she doesn't consider for a second what he really means. :sd:
- Anzu can't hope to beat Yamamoto's kindness. <3 God, Yamamoto really is Akari in a new line of work a few years down the line.
- EVEN THE DELINQUENTS! Oh god, she's like the perfect woman.
- "Men aren't interested in me." BWAAHAHA.
- The other two teachers are fantastic.

Fantastic episode. Quite possibly my #4 show of the season.

Koume's adorable naivete (...actually, is it really naive when she's the only one with a normal reaction? :sd:).

It's interesting she's kind of the normal one out of the three, a good contrast to the other two that are more precocious (in different ways).

Yeah, the "full episode split into two segments" thing seems to work very well for this series.

It feels like there is an entire series we skipped.

It is kinda strange how blase everyone is over it, though I guess after a few years it doesn't really matter much anymore.

Years later when the love child of student teacher romance is going to school, sure it's fine. But they were just as blasse in the flashback. The whole "My husband and I have to go away to America now" seems like a cover for "his ass got fired for banging me so we have to run away for a while." It just seems like a really oddly distracting plot point to throw into a show about 6 year olds and teachers.

The first half of the ep was nearly ruined, though, by relying on the pretty unimaginative "Anzu is annoying, Tsuchida is a complete retard" line of entertainment. Was totally saved by the great scene on the slide at the end, though, just made me smile uncontrollably.

The second half was, predictably, just as awesome as Hiiragi is. Not sure why she randomly has actual eyes for a bit, though, that's far less amusing. Anzu is far better suited to being peppy and clueless (in a "realistic" young kid fashion) than being super precocious and going on about her "relationship" with Tsuchida, too.

The ED was quite literally out of this world.

Show has lots of potential once it starts involving the other teachers more, too. Just spend as little time as possible doing the Anzu/Tsuchi stuff that took up too many minutes of the first half, please.

This show is totally my favorite of the season. From seeing the promo's, I knew it would be up there, but it's surpassed everything.
I was not really expecting much from this show, I only watched the first episode because I try to watch at least one or two episodes of all the new shows. To my surprise it turned out to be a lot of fun. I'm kind of disappointed in most of the other shows, but this one I'll be watching!

I liked this ep better, overall, since the first half was partially similar in theory, but played out a lot less annoyingly. Yamamoto-sensei = worth the price of admission.

Although Hii-chan's habit of dancing in her animal outfits when she's embarrassed is also ace (need some Hii-chan plushies), as was her getting too into blowing up Anzu. She actually has genuine character depth! Koume works great as a foil to the other girls.

Tsuchi's interactions with the male kids are amusing. Not just that, but also the video game discussions. Heh...
Couldn't agree more with this. They've really found a nice balance on this show, where they don't forget about anyone, and it feels like a more convincing little "world" as a result.

Did Squeenix just hint at a DS remake of Dragon Quest VII? The timing is right, with the DS remake of DQ6 having just come out in Japan.

Er, since this is General Anime Discussion and not Gaming Goodness, I should probably say something about the actual episode. Anzu's "date" with Tsuchida-sensei was cute, especially with Hiiragi and Koume helping out, and Koume as the shooting star most of all. Loved the focus on Yamamoto-sensei in the second mini-episode. Talk about being patient--she never says a cross word to Anzu despite all the trouble she causes trying to help.

The one-off EDs haven't failed to amaze me yet. How many series wish they had an OP as lavishly animated as this episode's ED?

Ah, beaten by one minute!

Episode 4:

- Paid more attention to the OP this time, and damn there's a lot of characters left to meet. I especially want to meet the middle/high school girl who looks like Osaka.
- Hah, Tsuchi is seriously critiquing Anzu's manga.
- Hiiragi is an enabler... Anzu is looking to clue Tsuchi in to her love for him (as if he didn't know) and Hiiragi proposes that you need to do it like something out of a manga.
- Anzu is wearing Kawashiro-sensei's clothing... er, even if they draw it as too big for Anzu, it's still waaaaay smaller that it would be on her.
- Anzu takes Tsuchi to an "open air cafe" (the playground...). Hahah, Koume is the waitress! So goddamn cute.
- And Hii-chan is... the mustachioed manager of the establishment. :sd:
- Anzu's plan for sharing a drink (milk) is ruined.
- Then they go on a "drive". >_>
- After that, it's a starry "night" sky together. And holy shit, shooting star Koume may be the cutest thing yet in this show. Kira kira~~
- Before he's forced to kiss Anzu, recess ends and he's saved.
- Hiiragi in... a chicken costume. And Koume as a rabbit!!

- In the second half, Tsuchi is put for a day to attend a wedding and Yamamoto-sensei covers Sakura class.
- So much Yamamoto looooove. I really like how calmly she is around the kids at all times. She seems like she'd be a bit airheaded (and is about love), but she really knows how to handle them all. She handles Anzu especially well - always cleaning up behind her without letting Anzu know she is.
- Man I love the girl with the kinda dark blue-green hair. Need more of her. She was the one crying about her dog, I think.
- Also, want more of the twins!
- After school ends, Anzu stays behind to help Yamamoto out a bit longer, and there's this really nice scene between the two later in the day. God damn Yamamoto is pretty, and Anzu realizes it too.
- Hah! Tsuchi comes back to school the next day, and the girls have totally bonded with Yamamoto-sensei. It's girl talk! No boys allowed!

Another awesome ED. I especially liked the brief bit at the start with young Sakura and how she met the teacher/her husband. Then there was much cuteness. And mahou shoujo Anzu.

Poor Tsuchida, he's not invited to the girls only conversation, serves him right for leaving for a day. Yamamoto-sensei and Anzu make a nice pair, lucky for Anzu, Yamamoto-sensei has no interest in Tsuchida. The 'date' was cute and Anzu is really lucky to have such great friends.

Another episode filled with adorableness. I especially liked the moment in the second part where Anzu notices how beautiful Yamamoto-sensei is. It was pretty sweet. The different endings have all been rather consistently great, and this one especially so. I'm quite impressed with how they've been handled.

Yamamoto handles Anzu much better than Tsuchi. Tsuchi, if a five year old asks if you like her, say "I like everyone in our class." Childish crushes may be innocent, but you're not helping matters. Anzu's mother may be certifiably insane, but if she had any other, you'd be fired if not worse.

The shounen manga was Urusei Yatsura, but I didn't recognize the shoujo one. Does anyone know what it was?

The series is losing its luster for me. I am getting tired of the Tsuchi/Anzu "love" thing, I wish they could do something more interesting with it. However, that said there are some charming and funny moments in pursuit of said romance ("Twinkle, Twinkle").

I love the differents EDs. And I agree with seeing a series on Anzu's mom.

I hope we get more of those and the "watch next week" screens like episode 2, to remind us that this is the new Gainax show directed by Seiji Mizushima, not just a ridiculously cute show about a kindergarten and the kids in it. I still love it as it is, since even though that's basically what it is, I find it's more of a slice-of-life comedy from the perspective of a teacher than a little kids' show. Plus, it's ridiculously cute, and they don't try to force any weird fanservice in. Of course, it's a bit of a disappointment, given its creative talent, but they manage to take such a made-to-suck premise and make it great entertainment.

I have to agree. Anzu's "love affair" with Tsuchi was cute at first, but now it's starting to get old and stale, and in some ways obsessive. However I did find the two episodes pretty charming and funny. I also lol at the fact that while Anzu can climb trees, apparently she can't climb a table :sweat:.

When the promotional material was released, everyone I talked to was sure that it was a show for nobody older than actual kindergartners, and the few that realized it was in a seinen serialization made excuses as to how that could be. Most of them refuse to watch it because they're sure of this.

Well, I don't know who you talked to, but stuff like this is hardly outside the norm for Japanese otaku. It'd be kind of ironic if the people you talked to were watching actual kids shows (Naruto/One Piece/etc). Not that there's anything wrong with watching kids shows (I like a couple myself), but it does just go to show how out of touch the average overseas fan is with the Japanese market.

Yeah, I'm also being tested by how much of the "annoying Anzu" shtick I can take in a given episode. Last week was perfect, this week was pushing right up against the boundary. Fortunately, everything else is amazing. Some focus on Yamamoto-sensei was well deserved, and the kids are a great bunch. Hii-chan still stands out (her voice as the waiter was hilarious, and the ending illustration was wonderful), but she's by no means alone.

Caught up with this show, so this will be more of a reaction to the first 4 episodes, then just the last one. Here's my first thought:

A more realistic Potemayo!

Even after 4 episodes, I am clearly enjoying this show more then Potemayo. There's even a part in the opening where Anzu climbs on Tsuchi's head does the whole angry-face growl at Yamamoto-sensei. Speaking of which, she's pretty much the perfect women, awesome in every way. Her Dad's reaction was kinda funny to a man working with her, but also pretty real considering her daughter is the way she is.

And of course, the little girls are just so freaking adorable. I love how Hii-chan likes to wear animal outfits, but gets embarrassed when she gets complimented on them. Anzu is just this ball of cuteness that radiates energy; so far I'm still enjoying her antics with Tsuchi. And Koume is just so wonderful, that my wife wants a little girl like her someday :)

But DAMN! about Anzu's parents, I was actually wondering if that was less of a taboo in Japan then it is here, since the overall reaction to what she did seemed to be acceptable. Besides that, we've only got glimpses into the other girls' families. I'm sure there's plenty of story that can be told.

Then there's the ED sequences, where it's obvious Gainax gets to play around. (since they really can't do to much during the show) Episode 4's ED has been the most enjoyable so far, showing a bit more of the time before Anzu was born (plus other fun stuff).

The only thing I would mention that's remotely negative would be: More Twins! I see them there in class, the show needs to work them in now. Plzkthxs!

I figured it would be one cour, given all the different endings (I think that would be quite an expense to stretch over two cour straight)

The first part was more Anzu obsessing over Tsuchi, but I rather liked it. Hiiragi was looking like Conan there. :) It's nice that Sakura was following them - it's good she's at least keeping an eye on them. I thought the bit where Anzu was worried about Tsuchi at the end was sweet too.

The second part was cuteness to the max, though. I was looking forward to seeing Koume focus and don't think I was disappointed. It was rather fitting for her. So adorable... Same goes for the ED.

The next-ep preview looks rather interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing Tsuchi's sister, and swimsuits!

I kind of feel sorry for Anzu. Not because her feelings for Tsuchi won't be requited, but because the best parts of her "date" with him were her friends. Hiiragi's various costumes and interventions in the date were pretty amusing and Koume's shooting star was adorable. So was Koume hopping around behind Anzu before Hiiragi came in.

The ED sequence reminds me of how much I want a series about Anzu's mom's high school days.

I really liked the ED this time around. The other endings have been good so far, but this one just had a nice energy and flow to it. If this doesn't get an R1 release, I might consider just importing the R2 for this episode.

And I agree again, a spin-off series centered upon Tschida's and Anzu's Mom's high school days sounds very interesting.

tsuchi at home playing his game got call from anzu for telling him go out from home & spending whole morning at home.
so tsuchi goes out while anzu-koume-hii follow but anzu & koume got distract by a cat, then toy buying (nge) then another distract by panda cat toy, & again panda cat melon while someone else is following.
seeing tsuchi in resturant just have a glass & stare at waitress & those mags
tsuchi quietly walk to avoid but got yoink by two men then anzu's mom to rescue but those two men just telling him to throw his trash properly cause two men work for community.
then tsuchi ask what anzu's mom is doing so ran then hide.
tsuchi talking on phone while seating while anzu-koume-hii then to check on tsuchi.
so they explain & goes for some taiyaki.

2nd half
normal day then anzu, hii, & tsuchi goes around whole koume slip & then someone check on her.
anzu & hii check on koume who is was "oh" by the person who help her then get info about that person.
so hii-holmes get info that person named yu & that koume like yu so anzu tell koume is in love.
so anzu & hii tell confess koume to confess before move, or aliens, or 2nd anzu-impact, or even the ishbal war (really hii what are you thinking???).
anzu tell koume goes for it cause it refine femininity from skincare, smile on mirrors, even bath (but don't over do it to be a prune).
so try a letter but fail then a gift but deja vu again for koume, so hii get you while anzu advice koume.
tsuchi wonder abou is this & to watch.
so koume said hole me (lol at tsuchi & hii reaction)?!
then koume goes "yikes" & see yu going to play so koume goes thank for eariler also play with yu

I liked the second half to this episode too. It was nice to see a Koume-focused episode, and I though they did a nice job with the story.

The first half was pretty decent, and I loved how the kids (and Anzu's mom) were trailing Tsuchi to see what he was up to. But I didn't think it was executed as well as the Koume episode.

Kudos to the Detective Conan, Evangelion, and FMA references. That was awesome :) .

The ED was pretty cute seeing Koume walking across the field with umbrella in hand to meet up with Anzu and Hiiragi.

Next week's episode looks like it'll be a lot of fun :bigsmile:.

Best episode so far, for me (although I would not be surprised at all if I like next week's better).

First half was an actually interesting way to do the usual Anzu/Tsuchi schtick - as in, it maximized opportunities to have Hii-chan involved rather than sticking to Anzu too much. Litter monitor Yakuza were great, even if that was obviously what they wanted to talk to him about. I was actually surprised that Anzu's Mom bothered to follow them, I thought this series had largely forgotten about the situations that kids of their age should and shouldn't be getting themselves into. ^^;

Koume was brilliant when given her chance in the second half, some ridiculously cute moments, especially the way she used Tsuchi as a comfort blanket when she was thanking Yu at the end. Really nice how they show that Tsuchi has indeed bonded with his kids.

I'm expecting the show to just keep on getting better the more characters they introduce, and the preview made next week look like it will be a highlight along those lines.

Detective Hiiragi amuses me greatly. He could be killed by the Second Impact! And I like how Kenji is still refers to Hiiragi as "master".

Both parts were really cute, but Koume was especially adorable in the second half. And Tsuchi and Hiiragi's reaction to Koume's confession was greatly amusing. I liked Sakura shadowing the girls, particularly since I marveled at her irresponsible parenting when she just let her young daughter walk out of the house to wander the city on her own like that with seemingly no concern for her at all.

I think Sakura completely stole this episode. Well, her and the recycling yakuza. The parodies were pretty funny too, but I'm ashamed to admit my reaction to the first Gashapon was: who? Even after looking him up, I still don't remember who he was. That said, Tsuchi can die in a fire for even considering throwing out Asuka.

Oh, and fuck yeah! An imouto is coming next week. This makes the show for me.

Yamamoto-sensei in a bikini is everything I could have wished for and more. There will never, ever be enough of that.

The synchronized swimming bit was funny, especially after it fell apart and the twins randomly showed up and pushed Koume away.

And then we get EPIC IMOUTO. Satsuki is AWESOME. Her seiyuu, Hirota Shion, hasn't done much, but I quite liked her hear. She's got it bad for her brother.

I think it would be amusing to have her and Mayumi meet sometime.

You know, AoD is starting to get on my happy nerves...due to the fact these shows I never know of I see get recommended like hell and I have to try them out.

Damn, I love Hii-chan. Panda-neko dance is the greatest thing of cute in this lifetime, but the way she's almost an expy of Masa from G.A but without mouth and incredible but humorous intelligence makes her instant win.

And it is so great to hear Erino Hazuki post-Aria as Yamamoto - and she's lovely as well. Sometimes the Anzu/Tsuchi bits can get annoying but overall Anzu is very funny - I just need more of Koume so onto episode 5 and 6 it is...there goes another thing I need to add to watch with just backlog of reviews, my other purchases and other shows you gits got me into...damn the lot of you. :)

Can we have Anzu's family move back overseas next episode, thus making Tsuchi a secondary character and shift Hii-chan into the lead spot with Koume as her sidekick? The Anzu-chases-Tsuchi stuff isn't BAD, but half of what makes it fun is Hiiragi's antics/outfits. I did get a kick out of the not-Google search window that popped up with their ideas (especially Hiiragi's 'not sexy' addition) though.

Imouto is definitely fun- and Tsuchi seems as oblivious to her brother complex as Yamamoto is to his advances. Both imouto are great- though their respective goals seem to put them at odds. :P

Same for Tsuchi as well. :) It was pretty awesome at the begining of the second half, when we find out that Yamamoto-sensei having the wrong swimsuit wasn't a careless mistake, but rather Mayumi meddling. Didn't really think of it at first, but Mayumi's seiyuu being Saitou Chiwa, means Yamamoto sisters are Akari + Aika... Heh...

The shark Hiiragi part was hilarious to me.

I wasn't sure what to expect of Satsuki, but she was a rather cute tsundere imouto and her half was very enjoyable. I liked that they had an extra short after the ending.

Hiiragi shows of more of her excellent cosplay. Her shark outfit was especially awesome.

I enjoyed the second half of the episode more than the first, mainly because of Tsuchi's imouto. Yamamoto-sensei proved surprisingly adept at handling her. I guess she's good at picking up on other people's feelings as long as they don't apply to herself.

The imouto centric ending was also really nice.

We really need a prequel focusing on Tsuchi's high school days. Epic imouto was epic.

The one downside to that would be a lack of Hiiragi. Nonetheless, I'm hoping she spends more time crashing at his apartment. She's a character that needs to appear more often.

The writers could imagine that Hiiragi had an aunt who was roughly around Tsuchi's age.

Hiiragi continues to find new ways to be adorable, this time blessing us with Kappa and Shark costumes. She was especially cute when Tsuchi picked up Hiiragi Shark from the water.

We also get to meet Tsuchi's younger sister, Satsuki. She's a nice addition to the cast and she clearly has the hots for her brother.

And this week's ED sequence was imouto-tastic.

All of the main girls go off to a summer vacation in Tsuchi's hometown. I thought this was a nice episode overall, with a good bit of focus on all the girls (kind of defied the pattern of the first part being mostly about Anzu, the first part was more on Sakura this time, and her and Tsuchi's past). I really like the variety of outfits and hairstyles. Get to see several of the girls in twintails at one point or another. :)

- Way to just decide Tsuchi's vacation plans, Sakura. :sd: And wow, Anzu invites Yamamoto. She'll regret that. But we all must thank her.
- Oh wow this is a bizarrely eclectic group. Tsuchi, Yamamoto, Sakura, Anzu, Koume, Hii-chan. Does this mean... swimsuits for Yamamoto AND Sakura? Oh god please please.
- Wow, the kids are in super cute mode today. I really like Anzu's hair. Hii too, and Koume is always cute.
- Hahah, Sakura is having so much fun with Tsuchi. Five brides! Harem honeymoon?
- AHAHAHA, Yamamoto goes along with it without even thinking. Tsuchi is going to die.
- You know, as... questionable... as Sakura can be as a mother at times, I really like her role here. I am sooo glad she's not a romantic option for Tsuchi, and I'm glad that he's not really in love with her (he just admires her). A one on one relationship (well, lack thereof right now) between Tsuchi and Yamamoto is the better way for this show to go, so I'm glad it took it.
- Though Sakura's fully aware he used to be in love with her. :sd:
- Hii and Koume on Tsuchi's shoulders. XD
- Aw... I kinda wish Hii's dialogue was translated when Tsuchi and Yamamoto talk about the suitcase. I'm sure she's just giving a scientific evaluation of the frog, but even so.

Satsuki is, by far, my favorite character in this show. She's perfect in every way. If she doesn't show up more, I'm gonna be pissed. ;_; Absolutely, absolutely amazing.

I'm glad we'll meet the black-haired girl next week, but the idea of her being Anzu's rival doesn't sound like like something I'm looking forward to. I think they're striking an okay balance with Anzu's Tsuchi-obsession lately, and bringing in another girl to force that in more often could overdo it. Well, we'll see.

Jeeze, I did it again, typing up everything then not posting it before moving on. I finished this ep 4 hours ago... I had to recreate the last part of this post all over since the backup only had most (not all) of it. This is getting really frustrating. Well... it was just going on about five times longer about how much I love Satsuki.

Aww, poor Satsuki. Her brother comes home to visit and brings no less than five other females with him. And in addition to them getting in her way, Tsuchi himself handles things poorly.

But this episode is more proof of just how awesome Sakura is and how awesome a show starring her would be. I loved how she decided Tsuchi's vacation plans for him and tries to help set him up with Yamamoto... though Tsuchi fails to take any real advantage of the situation.

No major Hiiragi moments this episode, though I was very amused at Satsuki holding Hiiragi Fish (and jumping out) and Hiiragi's "I was the shark."

The ED sequence was.... very odd.

YES! They are continuing to break away from the habit of the first 6 episodes to focus on Anzu's chasing Tsuchi in the first half and a non-Anzu-chasing-Tsuchi story in the second half.

In the first half, we get Anzu's Trio (with the help of Sakura) helping out one of their classmates who wants to help her parents out with their fish store. Sakura is again awesome, and Anzu, Koeme, and Hiiragi are adorable helping out with the fishmongering (especially Hii-chan in her apron). It's nice seeing them flesh out the rest of the class as well through these other stores.

The second half finds Tsuchi helping out a kindergartener dressed in a kimono whose sandal strap has snapped (cue Ai Yori Aoshi flashbacks...) who turns out to be the daughter of the Community Service Yakuza boss from a few episodes back. She decides she's fallen in love with Tsuchi and transfers to Hanamaru to court him. Anzu and Yamamoto are both quite good in this segment.

This show always makes a nice bright point in my Sunday afternoons. :)

The addition of Hinagiku to the cast looks very interesting. It turns Anzu's love triangle into a love square - with Anzu and Hina in love with Tsuchi, and Tsuchi in love with Nana.

Hina's decision to go and confront the "maneating hussy" was hilarious, and of course when she meets her rival she also falls for Nana's 'Akari effect'. Anzu was on fine form too, instead of being happy that her love rival has given up she instead cheers her on, without realising that she's just hurt her own chances.

The addition of Hinagiku was nice. Overall a nice couple of stories. I don't think I've ever noticed Aoi before, of course other than the main three and the one guy I'm not sure about any of the other children.

I don't think I've noticed Aoi (she doesn't really stand out) but the side-tailed twins and the one with the antennae style twintails definitly stand out and stick in my mind.

Oh, nice, it doesn't seem like Aoi is one of the mains, so it's interesting she got some focus. She's cute and her enthusiasm for her family's business is as well. I loved Hiiragi explaining the health benefits of fish in detail.

Hinagiku seems like an interesting addition to the cast. Her refined, mature character is a good contrast to the rest, and her being a yakuza daughter makes for some amusing comedic moments. As far as being a rival, she is smarter than Anzu at least - giving up on Tsuchida pretty soon after meeting Yamamoto-sensei, but of course Anzu is kind of disappointed by that and ends up encouraging her "rival" even. The ED is a good mix of cuteness and Yamato Nadeshiko - good fit for Hinagiku.

In the next-ep preview, it was pretty cool seeing what look like grown-up versions of the three main characters - they all looked awesome.

- So summer vacation is over. Koume and Hiiragi are pretty firmly paired up with two of the boys now. And Anzu, well...
- New girl, or at least one who never got much focus before. Aoi-chan!
- Okay, Tsuchi, this is where you inform Aoi's parents that letting a 4-5 year old walk home alone through a busy shopping district is a bad idea.
- Huh, the extreme tan works pretty wel with Anzu's hair. She's cuter like this, especially when she's got the mini twintails going on. Very very cute.
- Haha, Sakura is ruthless. She showers the guy with compliments and even brings along three cute little girls to do the same.
- It's all a big setup to get the guy to let Aoi help. Oh Sakura, you meddler.
- OH GOD Koume with the fish was so cute. Everything Koume does is cute beyond comprehension.
- This. is. too. cute.
- Man, Aoi really, really reminds me of someone... ...I almost want to say Misao from Lucky Star. It's the fang and the voice (even though it's not the same seiyuu).
- Yeah, this first half was awesome. I really like Aoi.

- Haha! The black haired girl the yakuza boss' daughter! That's perfect.
- Oh hell yes. Hinagiku is berating yakuza. She's fucking awesome.
- Okay there's the marriage proposal. Hopefully they don't overdo the romantic rival thing. Jeeze, if Tsuchi were a pedophile he'd be in heaven. Thankfully he isn't. :sd: He cannot resist the allure of Yamamoto-sensei boobs.
- Ah good, she's not joining Tsuchi's class. I like her and all, but if she were in the same class then we'd probably get way overloaded with this "love triangle" rivalry.
- Ahahaha, I looooove Hinagiku. She's declared Yamamoto her enemy. Shall we take bets on how many seconds it takes Yamamoto to win Hinagiku over?
- Hahah. So the answer was, like, 3.

Oh yeah, that was fantastic. It looks like they won't hit us over the head with another 5 year old lover after all. Hinagiku is awesome.

I agree- Hinagiku is a great addition to the cast. I really hope we get her interacting with Hii-chan- I have the feeling the two of them would have some interesting conversations given their own respective levels of maturity.

The preview with the grown-up versions of the main three looks very interesting- especially since it looks like Hii-chan has actual eyes and a mouth. :P

Another episode of "the anime that divides anime fans" (I don't think so, Zac)!

This was actually a less exciting episode after the past few episodes have been full of anime references and Gainax Bounce.

At least we got some great new characters. Hinagiku combines the Tsuchi-love of Anzu with the maturity of Hiiragi and even looks a little like Koume. And oh yeah, she orders around yakuza!

Nanako, a tramp? Oh, Hinagiku, it doesn't take more than a few seconds for you to realize your mistake.

Next episode... grown-up versions? This should be good...

The stories that focus on the side characters seem to be some of the best in this series. I really liked the focus on Aoi in the first half of the episode, she's a cool little kind. Aoi definitely already has the skills to succeed her parents business.

Nobody seems to be able to stand up to Yamamoto-sensei. If only she was aware of her own appeal.

Akari voice + gorgeous body + yamato nadesico atmosphere = Hinagiku V2 is doomed. :)

Loved this ep - Hii-chan once again stole the show with her moustache with explanation of fish, Koume was adorable incarnate, Sakura is an awesome meddler and Anzu is Anzu. And the edition of Hinagiku V2 along with the pseudo-intro of Aoi gave a bit more fun to the series outside the usual Anzu/Tsuchi meddling. Anzu is lovable dumb.

I like how they haven't forgotten Hiiragi's servant and Koume's boyfriend. I also liked how Koume is always holding the koala bear for the remainder of the episode.

Aoi-chan had an amusing introduction and the girls were too cute while helping out at the store. Especially Hiiragi, as usual.

Then we meet another new little girl, this one a young Nadeshiko Yamamoto type named Hinagiku. Except her father is the yakuza recycling guy and she's the one telling him and his subordinates how to act. And we get a cute Hinagiku ED sequence.

Hopefully we'll get a proper introduction of the twins soon.

then a visit to the fish market & fish for tsuchi
anzu hii koume with anzu's mom went to fish store to get some fish but forgot the money so anzu hii koume stay behind
so anzu hii koume want to help in the fish market
hii give mention inside info on fish
then fish owner's kid aoi heard noise to see that anzu hii koume on the fish & suggest aoi to help along & allow it
next day anzu hii koume see aoi refix her drawing cause of the fish helping

2nd
a kindergarten walking then meet tsuchi & tsuchi help her to her home
& meet her father the person from before who called tsuchi that litterbug
so boss person ask tsuchi want some tea but his daughter pwn'd them
next day tsuchi explain what happen yesterday then a limo enter with yakuza & that kindergarten who want tsuchi (great now it's a square problem)
which lead to anzu's rival yep anzu grab tsuchi's leg
so the kindergarten explain a bit & transfer to the school (really poor tsuchi)
so tsuchi does his usual things while kindergarten spying on tsuchi from sleeping, ds, & "read" but the kindergarten aka hinagiku is amaze at tsuchi
anzu get shock hearing propose so hinagiku talk to tsuchi poor him then anzu protest it
mention yamamoto to hinagiku & that will challenge the yamamoto
so hinagiku found the yamamoto & had a meeting with her & see yamamoto very unique
after some wait hinagiku give up on tsuchi cause of yamamoto but anzu want her to continue
lol at anzu that she still got a rival in hinagiku

ed vid focus on hinagiku walking in the rain with umbrella, yakuza people, & a black cat

next ep we get a guess, gift, dream, night, & older version of anzu hii koume

Hah, even though Mayumi is aware of Tsuchida's interest in her sister, she unaware of Hanamaru-sensei's interest in her, and surprisingly enough, vice-versa for her sister. Seems the sisters are just like that. :P

I really loved the second segment here. All of the main three's future dreams were quite awesome to watch. Love how Hiiragi filled her dreams with epic movie references, but she still made sure to be realistic afterwards. :) It was also really cool finding out how everyone decided to become a teacher (Tsuchida, of course, lies as to his motive... Had to throw in a cute Satsuki in his flashback) Yamamoto's was really sweet, though. We get to find out a bit more about Kusano this time, and she even gets a short third segment. She's kind of an odd one...

So apparently Yamamoto-sensei's younger sister (Mayumi) works for the publisher behind the Panda-neko franchise that all the kids at the school love so much- and he's every bit as smitten with her as Tsuchi is with Nana. He gets into a slump, and Anzu's trio tries to cheer him up (and also almost spills the beans about his liking her...). Hii-chan's 'because I see this happen every day...' was great. Unfortunately for Tsuchi, Mayumi's plan to help encourage Hanamaru-sensei (the artist behind Panda-neko) interferes with his having dinner with Nana. And the final scene shows that they are, indeed, very much sisters... As an aside, Mayumi is older than I thought she was- I was figuring she was still in High School, but it definitely sounds like she's at least out of HS...

The second half focuses on the kids drawing what they want to be when they grow up. Anzu's is totally predictable (LOL at the massive breasts she drew on herself...), Koeme worries a bit too much, and Hii-chan is of course awesome as usual. We also get the backgrounds on why all of the teachers chose the profession they're in as well, ranging from the noble to the somewhat self-serving to the downright weird- and yet they all seem to be good at what they're doing.

Finally, Tsuchi gets dragged to one of the other teacher's (not Yamamoto...) apartments to, in effect, watch what probably passes for porn for her. :catgirl:

Even more awesomely cute side characters! I like Mayumi now that we get to see her personality in full, I hope there's room in the series for more screen time for her.

I loved how Hiiragi's future dream had new-version Cylon Raiders (from the 2003 Battlestar Galactica series, at 16:02). I thought the new BSG was pretty popular in Japan, though this is the first time I've seen it referenced in an anime. Weren't people talking earlier about dating the series based on the handheld Tsuchida-sensei was playing, and what Dragon Quest games were out? I wonder if that fits into the chronology too.

This episode was great - seeing Mayumi in action (the sisters having an Akari/Aika voice vibe without the embarrassing moments gets my head all tingly) and being equally clueless about Hanamaru/Tsuchi's feelings for them works - the sequence after that though...Anzu, Anzu, Anzu. How naughty of you. And Hiiragi - how awesome are you? And Tsuchi's reasoning for being a teacher is no surprise...

Too many. I've been going through and getting a jump on things for the costume poll once the season finishes- and I'm worried that I'm going to have too many to have a useful poll. I may end up making it voting by episode instead of individual costumes so there's not a 50+ choice poll...

Maybe it could be split up for a first round into different brackets, and the top vote-getters from each bracket advance to the final poll? (with a more reasonable number of choices) For example, if we end up with 80 costumes total, a First Round with 4 polls of 20, each feeding the top 3 into a Final Round 12-choice poll.

Dream sequences were awesome. Bouncy-chested future Anzu insists that she and Tsuchi get naked as soon as he gets home, because that's what her parents do. Future Koume has a breakdown because she's juggling too many adorable potential futures. Future Hiiragi (now with a realistic face!) is an astronaut who has epic space adventures referencing movies and it turns out she's being the most realistic about it.

Even though it seemed like Mayumi was like everyone else in seeing how obvious it was that Tsuchida likes Nana, it turns out that she's exactly the same as Nana with Hanamaru-sensei (original name), and Nana is exactly the same as her in seeing how obvious it is.

- Monocle Hii-chan! Little girls read Hanamaru's love life like an open book.
- Hahahahah, he loses out in love to kindergartners.
- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I... I... I don't know what to say. I may have just witnessed the cutest thing ever. Oh. my. God. Panda-neko exercises!! Kome in particular was so cute it's unreal. <3
- Wow, Yamamoto looks even prettier than usual with her hair down.
- Hahaha, Mayumi reads Tsuchi in, like, 4.5 seconds.
- Awww, Tsuchi lost his dinner date.
- Bwahahahah! Yamamoto-sensei understands the deal with Hanamaru-sensei and Mayumi immediately. If only she could be so perceptive about herself. Goes for Mayumi too, she doesn't realize Hanamaru's feelings.

Wow. That was easily one of my favorite segments of the entire series. Fantastic.

- In Anzu's dream, her and Tsuchi get naked immediately! ...She learned it from her parents. Tsuchi's image of his old teacher has been shattered.
- Grown up Koume is so cute~! ...As if she could be anything but.
- Hiiragi, that's so you. Jedi!
- And Tsuchi's dream. Reality is a bitch, ain't it Tsuchi? But more importantly, younger Satsuki!!!
- We really do need to spend more time with the other teachers. Kawashiro-sensei in particular.

- Oh hey what do you know, Kusano-sensei invites Tsuchi over!
- ...and it's a night of watching men with large muscles swing swords.

Next week.. confession!? (I doubt it.)

Decided to get back to watching this and caught up. Satsuki has to be my favorite character in the show. The way she says "Tsuchi no baka" is so cute I could hug myself. She also has Osaka written all over her face.

I might be using the term loosely, but it also proves that just because a character is tsundere doesn't mean the archtype is bad.

a person drawing panda cat named hanamaru got a visit by yamamoto's sister & said still busy so yamamoto's sister ask the boss person wait a bit.
hanamaru wonder to do then meet anzu hii koume & give them their ball.
then anzu hii koume see something wrong about him & yep he got "pwn'd".
then here came yamamoto's sister to give something aka cake to cheer up.
after cake hii talking hanamaru about something till anzu almost hanamaru said hold it then talk with those 3.
while yamamoto's sister was go to say something till PANDA CAT with hii in panda cat suit.
& seeing it hanamaru feel better.
tsuchi with yamamoto & ask tsuchi to dinner & he said yes then here come yamamoto's sister & meet tsuchi.
but yamamoto's sister need yamamoto help so no dinner.
then hanamaru get some panda cat stuff from yamamoto's sister.
yamamoto sisters had some talk about hanamaru then mention tsuchi.

then anzu as what did tsuchi be a teacher look at his past wonder to do then his sister asked what he'll do so he want worked with kids & young teachers very tsuchi.(while hii say tsuchi is lying)
then tsuchi mention that question then yamamoto answered it very yamamoto.

with lead to imagine very workout kindergarten in 10yrs very messed up.

First half focuses on Koume and her brother and the field day at the kindergarten. Hinagiku was, as usual, awesome in all respects. Her dad just doesn't get it though.... I really wonder what her mother was/is like. :P We also get the only (I believe) Hiiragi costume of the episode, but it's a really good one- her dressed as a Shinobi/Ninja (or, as TheGreenMan put it- a Hii-nobi).

Second half clearly focuses on Tsuchida & Yamamoto as the staff has a night out and Tsuchida gets drunk (Yamamoto too- I was ROTFLing at her effectively treating him like one of the students :P) and, egged on by the two other main teachers, gets further drunk enough to try and confess to her. I pretty much knew the moment he said his line that it was going to turn out to be where it was from and be completely misinterpreted by Nana. She (and her sister as well...) is truly EPICALLY dense when it comes to that kind of thing. And Tsuchi a bit of a coward for not setting her straight...

It actually looks like the next episode may for once actually follow this one almost directly... and O_o? at the ending animation. They've definitely done some seriously weird stuff with those....

Hiiragi Costume Count: Only 1 that I noticed, the Shinobi outfit (ignoring the sports outfit everyone was wearing).

Aww... lots of Koume adorableness in the first half. Hinagiku having the yakuza cheering squad was really amusing. Giving that their names are all on their gym uniforms, I think actually tell the names of a few of the minor characters now.

I loved that we had a teacher get-together for the second half. I'm not sure if it did much to relieve Tsuchi's stress, though. Yamamoto is still completely clueless.

And the horror ending is freaky. It made me feel a little sad for Anzu.

Hiiragi - the only ninja I approve of that isn't named Shinobu, Koyuki or on the male side, Bang Shishigami.

And nice to see the teachers let loose - Yamamoto-sensei was beautiful and fun when tipsy. And still oblivious - poor Tsuchi. He's quite fun for your typical loser male lead - and Anzu's/Hinagiku's reaction at first when they learned of his confession is so avatar material. :)

Still love this show - Hii is still my fave by far though, but the entire cast is great (loved Hinagiku's family and the reactions of everyone else of them, and of the family when Hina V2 shouted at them...:P)

koume's brother take phone pic of koume then got NO!!! cause of what happen to koume.
koume's brother talk to tsuchi about upcoming event involve with koume then anzu & koume hear what happen with hii-ninja.
but they need a coach for koume so bring in kindergarten teacher (who show tsuchi that conan warrior vid) then start with some proper running.
koume wonder if she get a medal while talking with her brother.
it's the event day & yep hii blush on on kenji who over push the ball.
hinagiku doing her run then got WHAT by her yakuza dad & crew & got a medal.
now time for the foot race seeing koume train a lot for it.
AH shades for a race but last.
anzu win a race with hii 2nd.
now for koume race iwth koume lead but slip oh no but koume still continue but stop cause of the clap then koume's brother calling her to reach the finish line & she did with her brother.

ah yamamoto is drunk & clean tsuchi.
then ask tsuchi to confess WHAT?! cause yamamoto is drunk so pour 7 more drinks on tsuchi.
then tsuchi grab the mic for yamamoto to ask her.
he confess while drunk saying you did it jump hop to the tokyo tower.
next day tsuchi very hangover while koume & hii check on him.
then confess what happen to koume & hii but not tell anzu then here anzu & hinagiku.
then that muscle teacher mention last night then here yamamoto then hinagiku & anzu curious about last night so muscle teacher "said it" anzu & hinagiku go NO!!! but yamamoto did not answer it.
poor tsuchi really stuck with kindergarten.
then tsuchi hear wedding in yamamoto's class but it only a pic of yamamoto in a wedding dress.
so tsuchi ask yamamoto about last night but it was on love step?
poor poor tsuchi got pwn'd.

Is Koume up for adoption cause after watching this episode I so want her as my daughter :catgirl:.

But I did like the fact the both Anzu and Hiiragi told the crowd to stop clapping for her even though they wanted to encourage her to finish. Something that you rarely see in anime and in real life in general. Koume's brother did a nice thing in encouraging her to finish and the medal he made for her was very sweet.

As for the second part of the episode - all I can really say is that poor Tuschi just can't seem to win Yamomoto's love no matter how hard he tries or how wasted he feels :devil:.

*snerk* There were entirely too many H images of her on the site with the cute Aria/Hanamaru image (including one that I would have loved to see drawn non-H: what looked to be Yamamoto-though with the wrong color hair- in something resembling a Hanamaru Undine-company outfit...).

Honestly though, I don't think that he's EVER going to get the point across verbally- if they ever get to the point of resolving the Tsuchi/Nana thing (which I would be surprised at if does happen in this first season...), I expect he's only going to get the message across by grabbing her and kissing her...

That's not the case here, so it would take a little more to make a crossover parody shot happen.

Well, so far they've taken several shots at their (Gainax) own shows with the Eva parody in Hiiragi's reasoning as to why Koeme should confess quickly and the ending-image of Hiiragi as Yoko (probably the most disturbing of the cosplay outfits to date...). But they also had a FMA parody in the same sequence as the Eva one, which they didn't produce (though they did apparently have the role of 'motion picture examiner', whatever that means...). Granted, the director for Hanamaru also worked on much of FMA- but I'd think that a short parody wouldn't take altogether that much work to include, especially given Hiiragi's inherent cosplaying nature & Erino Hazuki's presence.

Though honestly, I think that they should find a way to make it happen regardless of how much effort it took. :catgirl:

You think that's bad, you should see some of the Hanamaru fanart on pixiv. I did a Hanamaru picture search on that site to see if there's any cute pictures that would interest me, and in the end, I saw pictures that make me understand why the "virtual child porn" bill was being considered in Japan. :eek:

I found something rather interesting today while going through and doing my daily sweep of newly released apps for my iPhone app podcast- an app with a strikingly familiar-looking character on its icon... (http://itunes.apple.com/app/torisat/id361194118?mt=8)

Sure, it's not perfect- design is slightly different, hair color is changed- but blank eyes, cute animal cosplay outfit- and for an app for tracking satellites that's quite definitely from a Japanese developer? No way it's a coincidence. Not that I'm complaining- I think it's pretty amusing. :catgirl:

Though I by and large don't care much about NCAA basketball (which is rather ironic given my office is literally across the street from Rupp Arena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupp_Arena)...), I DO have to say that the Hanamaru SOS-dan image is adorable.

I also have to note that I keep wanting to type 'Hidamari Kindergarten', and thus really hope someone makes an image to that effect happen...

Oh god, they all three did a Panda Neko dance (with Hiiragi in a panda cat outfit, naturally). The cuteness, its killing me.

It was nice to spend a decent amount of time with Mayumi. It turns out she's a lot like her sister when it comes to recognizing other people's romantic interest in her.

The teachers' reasons for becoming teachers were pretty amusing.

The ED was rather dull this time, as it was just a bunch of still photographs.

And drunk teachers. Drunk Yamamoto was especially amusing. And while it obviously couldn't actually go anywhere (even before you consider that alcohol was involved), it was still impressive to see Tsuchi actually confess to her (though in a way that is almost certain to be way to roundabout for her to get). And then they all celebrate, which resulted in a very odd little scene.

Though it turns out it might be direct enough for Yamamoto.... if she realized it was actually being said to her.

And apparently Anzu is allowed to watch way too many horror movies (I'm pretty sure every single thing, or close to it, that appeared in her nightmare was inspired by an actual movie).

No opening animation this week- had me wondering for a minute if this was actually the last episode.

Both halves pretty much run together this week, much moreso than previous ones usually have. Tsuchi ends up taking a day off sick with a slight cold, and Anzu comes over to attempt to take care of him (with the expected opposite happening). Though he does get better (and we get some amusing Hinagiku moments), he's still in a slump and depressed, and the kids can tell. Anzu figures it's because of what happened with his confession to Yamamoto, and basically starts coming over daily to help out at his place (which works out well for Sakura-sempai since she's swamped with work :P). Tsuchi ends up taking Anzu home one evening and getting roped into helping out with Sakura's work (writing about the 90's) and having a discussion about work and their respective thoughts on it.

As a result in part of this and wanting to get things cleared up, Tsuchi goes to visit Yamamoto (with flowers) to try and get a solid answer to what she thinks of him, and runs into Mayumi who points him to the kindergarten where Nana is (on a Sunday). We then get an amusing scene with Mayumi and Hanamaru-sensei with Mayumi rambling on about how dense her sister is while Hanamaru makes note (internally) that she's just as bad. Tsuchi spends some time talking with Nana, and after she trips and he catches her, asks her how she would respond if a man confessed his love to her- which she says she'd be happy about, but might not be able to deal with that well because of how focused she is on becoming a 'full-fledged' teacher. Moping slightly about this (though as much due to his feeling like he's not worthy of her), he returns home to find Anzu (his landlord gave her a key early on- gotta question the wisdom of that...) who is going to cook him a meal- and it actually turns out fairly good. Tsuchi cheers up a decent bit and tells Anzu a bizarre story at least in part based on himself and Yamamoto while Mayumi grills Nana about what happened with Tsuchi- and notes that she's still completely clueless but that he does seem to have something of a chance.

The ending is cute, and focuses on our favorite meganeko & muscle-freak teachers.

This was one of the first episodes in a while where Anzu's attempt at a relationship with Tsuchi really worked well IMO- her heart is definitely in the right place and she did a lot of good for Tsuchi this time around (even if the good she was trying to do didn't always end up being what she intended it to be). The one downside to this episode was that it largely took place outside of the kindergarten class time, so there was very little in the way of Hiiragi or Koeme. Next episode will, unfortunately, be the last...

Hiiragi Costume Count: 1- a cute frog outfit at the very beginning.

- Oh jeeze, nice parenting Sakura. Drop your kid off at her teacher's apartment and then have her sleep over. :sd: Well, it's certainly a sign that she trusts Tsuchi quite a lot.
- Tsuchi, you do realize Anzu is going to tell the entire world she "slept with" you now, right? That could be bad. >_>
- And there she goes. :sd:
- Sakura, you're a really terrible influence on Anzu. You don't hold her expectations in check at all.
- Tsuchi is certainly getting parenting experience lately.
- And not only does Sakura force her child on him, she even forces her work on him. Hah.
- Still, she's right that he has to cheer up. He can't handle the kids properly if they're the ones taking care of him.
- And so he's going to finally do it. Confess so that even she'll understand! ...yeah good luck.
- Mayumiii! <3 Heh, she reads him so easily. C'mon Mayumi, it's up to you. Nana-chan and Tsuchi will never get anywhere alone.
- And all her perceptiveness goes right out the window when she's with Hanamaru-sensei. :sd:
- Siiiigh, oh Tsuchi. You've got Nana all alone and you're choking.
- ;_; He was about to go for it (sober this time) but she said just enough, and just the right (wronf) thing to totally scare him off. Oh Tsuchi... I hope it works out eventually.
- Huh, Anzu is being way more understanding than usual of the fact that she's a kid.
- Ahaha, doji-doji ouji and donkan-hime. How appropriate.

Very nice music accompanying some really nice scenes = win. Mayumi, you are our only hope!

I do wish this were a 2-cour, we'd likely have gotten episodes for them as well as more on Hanamaru. If they make more, there almost has to be an episode with Hanamaru & Tsuchi and the Yamamoto sisters out on a 'double-date' (though each sister would only think it was a date for the other...) so the two guys could at least console each other & lament their fates...

It would be kind of sad if, in the end, Tsuchida-sensei really does fail in his attempts to woo Yamamoto-sensei. It would either be really unique and stand out as a memorable ending, or be just a way to drag the manga on ad infinitum with X Files-style employee romantic tension (OK, so that's a completely unrelated show, but Hiragii would love it).

Only one more episode. It should be good, but it's sad to see it go so soon, especially since next season is another Gainax-free one and I'm sure there's more material to adapt. This episode felt like it would be the last one since there was no opening, so I guess they have to make the next one stand out even more. The ED better be the best yet. Anyway, another good episode, although I'm more looking forward to the finale.

tsuchi at home watching decide to go out while raining yet so calm.
anzu hii koume see tsuchi at the rain.
tsuchi try to tell momotaro story but thry know it.
then tsuchi got called by principal to know what wrong.
so tsuchi take a day off then door bell rang & it's anzu.
anzu here to to take care of tsuchi & yep anzu being anzu from give tsuchi tangerine, fix the kitchen but oops broke glass, then oops again wrap anzu with tsuchi help remove the wrap, then OH NO!!! yep tsuchi is a doobi man very tsuchi, now it ramen time.
tsuchi talk with anzu's mom with end up anzu staying with tsuchi for the night.
next day anzu talk with koume & hii till hinagiku hear what anzu saying.
yet wonder about tsuchi.
anzu & her mom talk about tsuchi & mention yamamoto with mention "power of love".
back to tsuchi's place with anzu do the laundery & tsuchi wonder what does anzu's mom teach anzu so they go out for the laundry.

tsuchi wake up see amzu sweep & got the landlord key.
so tsuchi bring a sleeping anzu home & stay a bit to talk with anzu's mom then see her works so ask tsuchi for help then ask do a manga then mention about yamamoto because tsuchi not himself cause he still thinking about yamamoto.
next day tsuchi go to yamamoto's place but retreat but stop by yamamoto's sister yep yamamoto got an idea to have tsuchi got the kindergarten to see yamamoto.
then yamamoto meet & talk with hanamaru (yet he got flowers too)
then tsuchi found yamamoto seeing she write but cover.
yamamoto ask what is tsuchi is here then flowers, then take a walk while talking, then yamamoto almost slip but tsuchi catch yamamoto then ask her mention date but yamamoto bring focus on being a teacher.
then tsuchi hear what yamamoto said so he went walk to home & see anzu & anzu make dinner (oh no flashback from last anzu's cooking) but this time it's ok.
after eating anzu ask for a story but interesting so here the tale of prince clumsy also mention princess dense.
yamamoto sisters talk about tsuchi.
then evil panda appear but panda cat is justice but it was an imposter.
more tsuchi talks from yamamoto sisters.
then real panda cat appear while prince clumsy run to the basement.

ed vid too decent ah army of panda cat, baseball, bake, firefight, nurse, kindergarten, etc too decent. (with song called "yes we can" alright who been obama quote saying)

next ep is last about christmas & feelings.
