View Full Version : Hidamari Sketch (Original Series) Discussion Thread (Restarted)

Last week the street date for the series passed. Some (or at least myself) have the DVD as part of their collection. Thus following the tradition used for some other series, I've decided to create a new discussion thread for those watching for the first time on DVD. Which also means hopefully the discussion can be more proper this time.
Not sure what type of pacing we should have for this thread, but sometime soon I'll get around to creating the sub thread for the first episode unless someone else does first.
Note
As usual, please try to follow these three easy forum courtesy habits when replying:
1) If you're the first person to post about an episode in any given week, please respond to the root post (this post) and indicate in the subject line which episode you're posting about.
2) If someone has already posted about an episode before you, please respond to that post (or a relevant reply to that post). Keep in the right subthread.
3) Don't use the blue "Post Reply" button because it causes your reply not to correctly inherit the subject line of the post you're replying to. Just click "Quote" to the post you want to reply to.

Poor Yuno has to deal with the fact she forgot her homework.
Yuno and Miyako have fun in the snow.
Yoshinaya reveals she is a strange one.
In general, this episodes give us a feel for what the core cast is like.
Yuno was a case of love at first sight for me. Her voice, her design, and personality had an instant impact on me. Plus, she took a bath!

Rewatching the first episode the other day reminded me just how little the two downstairs appeared in it. Yuno was adorable as ever though. :)

I remember this episode pretty well but re-watching some the later ones on DVD, it was almost like watching it for the first time.

This is the episode where we learn that Miyako's apartment is cheaper and why. We also learn that Miyako has a big mouth.
In this episode the girls work on name plates for the apartment.
Also, this is the first indication of jumping around the time line for the series. Episodes of this show like referencing other episodes.

Alright, I need to start this before I get too behind.
Episode 1:
January 11th!
- Yuno's cold feet are so cute in the morning!
- Sketch Switch! Such a great OP, although I like the 365 OP better. *** has the best ED although 365's is close.
- Yoshinoya-sensei's introduction is pretty much perfect. Immediately establishes her as childish, irresponsible, yet fun-loving.
- And then she totally shoots down Yuno's plea to hand the assignment in late, with a big smile on her face. :sd:
- I love the ひだまり荘 sign. <3
- Yuno puts her collage together and runs to class... with Miya hanging out the window and cheering her on, embarrassing Yuno utterly. OH GOD SO CUTE.
- Yoshinoya-sensei accepts it after all.
- The characters in this show make the best faces ever.
- LOVE & PIECE.
- Don't get in a snowball fight with Miyako.
- Miya-chan NYAAAAA~
- Hah, Miyako's excuses as to why she spelled it Piece are awesome.
- Yoshinoya is a hardcore cosplayer! Each student gets a different pose!
- Miyako is so shameless about food. :sd: I really like the short BMG piece that played briefly after Yuno shows everyone (except the audience) who the second caller is.
- Hah, Yuno trying to convince everyone she's not necessarily a good kid. FAT CHANCE. You're the most adorably innocent girl ever and couldn't go against that if you tried.
- Our favorite Hidamari staple! Yuno bathing!
"Mebae Drive" is such a nice ED. Ah yes, oh how I love this show.

Episode 2:
August 21st!
- A stuffed bear... and Yuno's boobs! They went *squish*
- Yuno doing morning exercises! And ah, the first sign that this story is going to be achronological! Outside in front of Hidamari-sou, the nameplate is different. And there's a sign asking them to make a new one!
- Yuno's ass! This is all such a pleasant surprise. Forgot about this Yunoservice. =D
- And is it just me or does Yuno seem entirely too shy and easily embarrassed to be doing exercises right on the sidewalk? :sd:
- We're in the summer, late August, so we're jumped back 4.5 months.
- Huh, I can see how the character art has changed a bit in later seasons. It's a bit looser here with the weird faces. 365 and *** have all sorts of silly expressions too, but the art in general is more refined, tighter.
- Sae is ひ! Miyako is だ! Hiro is ま! Yuno is り! Who gets 荘?
- Hiro goes for red, because she sees sexy Yoshinoya-sensei in a red bikini! You know Hiro was turned on.
- Yuno goes blue after talk of the ocean.
- Yellow for Miyako and Pink for Sae.
- And references to something we haven't seen yet.
- Why is your apartment cheaper, Miyako? Because it could ignite at any second!
- Hahah, I love when Miyako gets the (very tight fitting) yukata and Sae can't help but notice the sexy side of it. Always with yuri on the brain, Sae!
- Sae's yukata makes her look like an old man.
- Yoshinoya looks great in her yukata.
- Miyako is going to put the festival games out of business.
- Love the BGM again when Miyako leads them all to the fireworks display.
- And more bathing Yuno!
Am kind of surprised at how far the art has come over the seasons. This was hardly bad, but definitely not on the same level.

Apparently Yoshinaya has magical powers when it comes to changing outfits.
The part where Miyako keeps eating the bread is amusing. I can't get over the idea of bread used as an eraser. Probably because I eat plenty of sandwiches.
If your friend stains her artwork, stain yours too, and then stain the subject. Best strategy ever, Miyako.
Yuno has a stained face.
So many types of buns and so many items that can be used as side.
Miyako will do impressions for food.
Miyako getting in through the back door is more plausible.
Hiro and Sae talking to Yuno about Misato. A warning about a purple snake.
Poor Yuno, she was defeated by the purple snake aka purple rope.

Ok, finally getting a chance to do this.
lol Sketch Switch sounds weird since I'm much more used to hearing Endoh Masaki's cover of it. The impression is...different.
Interesting to see the change in art from the first episode to where we are in X***, though its not as extreme as you'd think.
Hiro and Sae talking about Yuno and Miyako playing in the snow would really make you think that they are more than just a year older. But then I guess they are already married, so additional maturity should be expected.
I always forget how good the Hidamari ED themes are, I never do get around to obtaining them, even though I really do like marble quite a bit, they didn't really get onto my radar until Hatsukoi Limited.
I think it would be a fascinating project to try and watch Hidamari chronologically.

I heard that version a couple of times, but most of my listening is of the original version. In any case that song is one of things that sold me on the series.
Hiro and Sae talking about Yuno and Miyako playing in the snow would really make you think that they are more than just a year older. But then I guess they are already married, so additional maturity should be expected.
Also, having "children" to take care of probably also provides them with motivation to be mature.
I always forget how good the Hidamari ED themes are, I never do get around to obtaining them, even though I really do like marble quite a bit, they didn't really get onto my radar until Hatsukoi Limited.
I currently only have ED to the first season. I still need to get the CD for the ending to season 2 and 3. Not that I've checked when three will be out.
I think it would be a fascinating project to try and watch Hidamari chronologically.
It would also be a challenge. Given the covering of the time line has only become more complex with each season.

Heh, I actually just purchased all the Hidamari EDs last night. I initially intended to grab the x *** OP and ED, after finally realizing they were on CDJapan but not labeled as Hidamari. Only found them by plugging the Japanese titles into the Neowing side and realizing they were there. The ED was a definite, as it may just be my favorite piece of Hidamari music yet, although I'll reserve judgment until the full version. But as I listened to them all, I decided to skip the x *** OP for now and add in Mebae Drive instead.
That's when I noticed that in all three cases I like the EDs better than the OPs and all are marble. The b-sides are amazing too. Considering Hatsukoi as well, I could definitely stand to hear more EDs from them.
I think it would be a fascinating project to try and watch Hidamari chronologically.
I might try it one day, although it'd be really complicated, especially when single episodes include two (or more?) very widely separated days. The other problem is that we don't know how long the anime will go and the way it's all set up, they could be in, like, season six and still occasionally have segments from the first year.

Ah, so it's a date that's still weeks away, but at least it's not one that's months away. On a side note, I've got to love how anime decides to make purchasing decisions even more complicated by creating more items to consider.

That's the thing. Yuno isn't overly large, but she's not got nothing either. The same could be said of all of the characters in Hidamari - not one seems to be too big or too little.

It's definitely nice to have a series where they avoid going too far in either direction. Also, it's good they give us a chance to double check Yuno once in awhile. Heh, I need to re-watch episode 4 and start the sub thread for that soon.

Yuno has managed to wake up early. Yuno is being cute resting on her futon, outside her window.
Miyako has fish!
Yoshinaya's class gets to sketch outdoors this time.
I've got to love the way Yoshinaya's class reacts to her warning about doing a nude painting.
Miyako's apartment is closer.
I don't care if those two are denying it, I'm convinced they are secretly dating. All girls in the world of Hidamari have a partner.
Yuno cleans a statue and thinks about her dad for no related reason.
Miyako thinks she'll get gifts if she's kind to the statue as well.
Miyako wants to take the statue back with her.
Hiro's compliments about Sae's skill leads to Miyako saying things she shouldn't.
Yuno got stuff from her parents. She thanks them and the statue. On the other hand, Miyako lost her fish.
Ah, it's the worm. The worm being a good example of how later and earlier episodes have been referencing each other.
We have a depressed Hiro. A depressed Hiro that doesn't want Sae to talk about it.
Yuno suggests the idea of using karaoke as a method to burn some calories. They even have machines that can count it. I sense an excuse to hear the girls sing. Excuses like this are good.
Yuno is a polite one.
So we get to hear Hiro sing first and second because she decides to go again.
Sae tells Miyako and Yuno about the problem while Hiro sings. I like how Hiro's expression and such changed as she sang and Sae talked.
Hiro got upset because a little grabbed her arm and called her fluffy.
Sae's turn and she does pretty decently the first time. The second time however is another story.
Miyako thought they were just translated titles of the same songs.
We learn than Yoshinaya made the statue and that it looked different in the past.
Sae discovers Yoshinaya in one of the booths. Also, delayed reaction.
The others press Sae about her knowledge in regard to the statue. She admits her familiar with it. So you pay to the statue for a larger chest?
Hiro is not sitting down.
Yay, Yuno is singing finally! The way she sings it is different than what Hiro and Sae are familiar with it.
Miyako sings the same way as Yuno and suddenly Yuno notices something is off.
Miyako used to sing at clubs when she was younger.
Hiro's gets to sing a third time.
Miyako wonders where Hiro is fluffy.
They discuss the worm and Yuno decides she wants to keep it. On a side note, why is it a worm? Shouldn't it be a caterpillar?
As they walk home they run into the girl that called Hiro fluffy. She mentions pink and Hiro realizes it was about the hair.
Then the girl decides to call Yuno small. Yuno is still growing! Yuno, you're tallk enough.
Diet Jelly has arrived.
Yuno left her futon out too long.
Hiro, discover one piece can make a difference.
Yuno singing in the bath.

-LOVE & PIECE! hehehe
-Hurray snow art. Not Calvin & Hobbes enough, but adorable.
-Cosplay teacher? Okay I like her too.
-Cellphone blush? What did did the teacher send half naked cosplay photo?
That's a cute first episode. Sorta halfway between Sketchbook Fullcolors~'s laid back embracing of the world through art and the almost spastic scatter shot art term filled pace of Geijutsuka Art Design Class. Now to watch more.

-I don't like the use of photos of real things in Hidamari.
-Make a new sign for the apt? I guess that explains the weird sign I was not reading in the first episode.
-I guess they must be forced to live in the campus lesbian apartments. Yes. That's is my story.
-Miyako is a bad carpenter!
-Chocolate detective? Apartment filled with blood? Sae & Hiro are such an inventive couple.
-Hiro, the one drawn the slimmest is that fat one of the group?
-FLASHER SENSEI!
-And Hiro can not forget that image. If made her blush as red and the swimsuit.
-And she sends pictures of herself to her students. In front of fake sets. That's one amusing teacher.
-A beautiful apartment manager. Who conveniently arranged for only cute nubile girls to house in her apartment. Ho ho.
-Curtains! I will make a yukata out of curtains! Must have candy! Oh Miya.
-Sae is hot for Yukata :D
-Weirdly stylistic visuals and camera changes remind me alot of Bakemonogatari.
-Sensei is wearing normal clothes. And has an eye for Miya.
-A fox demon is calling to Miya? This has become an episode of Bakemonogatari.
-Fireworks! Maybe Miya is a kitsune.
-Another bath scene for Yumo?
-Sensei so sexy!
-Miya will invade your personal space.
Yeah this is a fun show. Atleast it's grabbing me faster than Geijutsuka did. But it does not have a cute Canadian. Oh well nobody's perfect. I am hoping for a naked body painting episode though.

Hiro's weight issues are almost entirely in her mind.
Also, she needs to realize that some of her weight is the result of having an awesome chest. I speak as if I have any idea how much a chest is supposed to weight relative to its size. Not like I've ever let facts get in the way before.
Speaking of chests, the classic "in her mind" issue in anime would be some girl with chest that's at least a B-Cup acting like she's completely flat....

-Well I guess teh use of photographs of thinsg comes in handy for multiple angles of Brutus-kun. Still doesn't mean I like it.

-Little doll man on a pillow. Little doll man get's clothes between camera cuts. I adore little background touchs like that.
-Run tofu-san run!
-doll man got beat up but came back with an envelope?
-Subliminal Pani Poni.

- Oh there's Hiro on about her weight again. Eat that cake! Level up your love pillows for Sae!
- Yuno. is. adorable.
- Hahaha, Hiro, you should know that your words of love totally blow Sae's mind up.
- And now Sae is off to the bathroom to... ahem.
- Yoshinoya!
- The secret is out! Sae must increase her bust! ...nah. Asymmetrical docking with Hiro is fine too, Sae!
- Hahahah. Miyako thinks bigger boobs are uninteresting, she would prefer food! ...Yeah, someone with her boobs can say that so easily. Of course since it's Miyako, you know she means it.
- Yuno and the ocarina!
- Asumi Kana singing badly is CUTE AS FUCK.
- Miyako beats them all! But I'll still take off key Yuno.

Both Natsume and the Landlady make their first appearances. Natsume doesn't come off very well though.
Yuno's reaction once she found out it was the Landlady was a definite highlight of the episode. Yeah, Natsumi didn't give a good first impression.
Hiro is just unrelentingly domestic.
Can we count that as a special power?

Ah, but her trying probably amuses them. Wait, I'm making the others sound twisted. I need to get around to re-re-re-re-re-watching this episode later.
Okay sometimes the subtle lesbian undertones are not so subtle.
There is absolutely nothing subtle or undertone about Sae.
You could make a decent argument that Yuno and Miyako aren't actually gay, but Sae? No way, she's got a wife already, and even a stalker (whom you haven't met yet, I believe)
Yeah Yuno and Miya might be a couple. But it's very nebulous in a friendshipy kinda way. Sae and Hiro on the other hand are gaaaaaaaaaaaay. They are always in the same room together and act like a married couple just about. Miyako is more like a combination of Yuno's long lost big sister and a large pet dog. Sae and Hiro's level of friendship has gone past Sayuri x Mai and are now approaching Haruka x Michiru levels.

February 13th!
- Yuno has such a fever that she's literally glowing...
- Miyako should stay with Yuno and heal her with her body!
- Yuno's dreams + Shaft = awesome.
- And a big poofy dress...
- MIYAKO STRIPS YUNO NAKED AND HAS HER WAY WITH HER!
- I love Miyako's apple murdering song. Miyako is such a nice lover.
- Yuno waves her arms around for no reason. AND IT IS ADORABLE.
- CHIKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa
- Yoshinoya's legs! We need to spend more quality time with them, if you ask me.
- Heh, Kuwabara and Yoshinoya are just so blatantly messing with Sae. Sae is too fun to tease.
- A(n even) small(er) Yuno!
- Hahah, I love the shot of Miyako in her desk with absolutely nobody around her.
- SPINNING Xs!
- They form circles...
- Miyako's impression of the principal is amazing.
- There's also something very scary growing on Yuno's floor.
- Sae is going to get some chocolate. =D
- It's so god damn heartwarming seeing everyone come in at night to check in on her.
- "When I caught a cold last year, you stayed with me all night, didn't you?" I BET YOU DID.

I guess it depends on how important you feel the DVD factor is vs keeping up with momentum. Part of my reason for starting this thread boiled down to other cases where the logic boiled down to...
The DVD just came out, others should hopefully have it, thus this might be a good time to revisit the series.
That, and the old thread was made before the forum switchover. Which means there's a lot of messed up tags and it was before we had the those guidelines...
I was originally thinking along the lines of starting up a separate thread for X365 thread in April, but if people feels it's better to keep both in one thread then I'll accept that as an alternative strategy.
It would give me an excuse to watch the X365 episodes even sooner. I speak as if I need a reason to re-watch episodes of Hidamari Sketch.

Given how this is a SHAFT anime, the "weird" aspect is pretty much expected.

July 14th!
- What is up with Yuno's dreams? :sd:
- 12 hours? That's not much, Yuno! I would like to get 12 every night...
- Hiro playing a harp, want more!
- Haha, Yuno and her eraser. Also, this teacher is pulling the evil A-A-A-A-A-A!
- Nobody knows the principal's name. XD
- Ahahaha, 50 points for explaining how much they love Yoshinoya-sensei.
- Hey... looking at Yuno's question sheet and answer sheet, the question about Yoshinoya is #15. And Yuno wrote nothing. She likes noting about Yoshinoya! And she's going to lose 50 pts...
- ...Miyako wants you to remember that she has large breasts. She also tans very quickly.
- HAHAHAHA. Sae's facade has never been demolished more thoroughly than now. She's embarrassed as hell, Miyako is about to explode from laughter, Yuno is utterly flustered. Amazing scene.
- Absolutely glorious awkwardness between Sae and Yuno. XD Sae answers the bikini question pretty honestly but after that... what is Yuno supposed to say? :sd:
- The characters are nearly chibi to begin with but when they get even more chibi they make the best faces ever. Like Yuno when she's wondering if she'll ever have the pool blown up.
- Not surprised Yuno goes for the one piece, but slightly disappointing. Sae is the only bikini, which is amusing in a way. I wonder what Sae thinks, "losing" even to Yuno? :sd:
- Even Hiro doesn't wear a bikini! But also but surpsinging considering her hang-ups.
- Looove the shot of all four lying in the pool together.
- Finally some service shots! Yuno has an adorable butt.
- Bathing!
- And Brutus.
- Not a butterfly after all. :sd:

Hmm... so the series is starting in media res, eh?
The voices of the four main girls, plus Yoshinoya, seem well-suited, though I was expecting Sae's to be a bit lower.

That girl served two purposes. Providing us with cuteness and making Yuno happy.
Hiro, you do not need to diet at all, your curves are your best part.
If only she'd listen to wisdom.
And Natsume tsun-tsun is still adorable.
She's quite the nervous girl, nervous in an adorable way.

Episode 7:
October 12th!
- Are those teruterubouzu curtains Yuno has there? They don't seem to be working.
- Lovely weather for a sports festival indeed.
- Whose ass is that in the first eyecatch? I'd like to meet her.
- I love Hiro's hair so much.
- NATSUME!! Need more Natsume!
- Miya running with the wind, and having so much fun. And come on Yuno, you'll get mad? Sure you will. Go ahead. Try it. =P
- Sitting around watching water drip into a bucket. Fascinating!
- ...Yuno, you're right. Pizza does sound good. I think I'm gonna have some right now!
- Mmm, pizza. No typhoon, though...
- YUNO BRINGS THE STORMS!
- Heh you can see why they usually choose Yuno or Hiro's place when they congregate. Miyako isn't really equipped to play hostess...
- I'm amazed how much comedy mileage this show can get out of silica gel.
- And in the end, it doesn't burn after all. :sd: Interestingly, I thought we'd already seen this scene in an earlier episode. I must have rewatched just this scene at some point recently.
- Guahna ~ White Chocolate from SHAFT ~!
- Spikey chestnutball!
- Hah, Yuno didn't even know that was the landlady.
- Yuno is so ridiculously polite. I love when she frets about silly things.
- Bathing!
- The chestnuts look like brains made out of poop. >_>

- Yuno looks down, but perks right up when her lover stops by.
- Haha, Miyako has some amazing artistic sense.
- Yuno's pink panties! Miyako likes them!
- 8 boyfriends! Heh, talk about going overboard with your lies.
- Hahaha, love the ikakun pun.
- Tachibana Aya! Sae writes yuri stories! She is writing from experience after all!
- "Did you know that story?" "Yep!" ...poor Yuno, she's a bit disappointed. :sd: aww.
- Yuno sitting on the sidewalk having a candy picnic while she draws Hidamari-sou... how odd. Also, if it's cold, put on some socks!
- Yoshinoya sparkle!
- Man, Hiro takes suuuuch good care of Sae. <3 <3 And Yuno gets out the ear pick!
- I looooove embarrassed Sae!
- Bathing~~ Yes, you will be just like Hiro and Sae. In many ways.

Huh, it seems the DVD release split up the episodes that had two separate segments, giving them their own OP/ED/Preview
Anyway, Miyako and the stray cat!

Yuno walks in on Hiro and Sae doing ***** and gets shocked. No Sae, its exactly what it appears.

And then some HARD CORE DRAWING ACTION from Yuno in the last part of the episode.

Episode 9:
September 4th!
- That is one fucked up alarm clock.
- 913 years of curry rice!
- Miyako has sure given money a lot of thought. Even though she's never had any.
- A magnificent header from the principal!
- Sexual harassment! God Yoshinoya, you are the least subtle person ever.
- Kishi Maiko! The only Hidamari character with a full name!
- Haha, Maiko is barely on screen for a minute before she totally embarrasses herself.
- High school Maiko!
- Yoshinoya-hime!
- Hmm, first girl who was asked about her dreams had a mole... Nakayama? Hair is shorter than I remember though. And the voice... slightly different? Hard to compare side by side.
- Miyako has attained enlightenment! Gender doesn't matter in love! She's trying to tell you something, Yuno!
- Mesousa! Poor Mesousa.
- Yah, that has to be Nakayama. She's with Mami in the eyecatch. Her design just changed a bit later on. Or, well, in *** we only see her in chibi design. And Mami was the one who asked why Maiko isn't drawing. Now I'm pretty certain they changed the voices. Sawashiro has great range but it doesn't sound like her at all in this ep.
- Trash diving! Yuno can be so hard on herself sometimes. Stop being depressed, Yuno. ;_;
- Miyako tackle cheers her up!
- Hammock! And incredibly sexy shot of Hiro out of nowhere. AWESOME.
- I wonder what Yuno thinks about the big crack Miya's hammock hook put in her furniture...
- X BECOMES ○. THE END TIMES ARE NEAR.
- And now ♦!
- Yuno's mother was born June 27th 1964! So she's 45 and a half years old.
- Yuno and Miyako bathing together!! Also, Yuno's breasts in almost full view, huh. The water goes from totally transparent to not so much between cuts.
- Awwww. Miyako can seem pretty goofy and flighty most of the time but she really knows how to read other people when it matters. Love love love the way she glanced at Yuno from the side, smiled, and asked to stay over for the night. She's so good to Yuno. <3
- Miyako touches Yuno's boobs! ...and gives her some good advice. You're a good girl, Miyako.
- Hahah, poor Sae. Thee whole damn apartment is boobytrapped.

A little question for those who've seen Sentai's release:
I've heard rumors on another site that the R1 DVDs of the first season contain a random mix of broadcast and DVD versions of the episodes. And with SHAFT at the helm, we all know that there can be a pretty big difference between the two. Can anyone confirm that the version on these DVDs is, in fact, the complete DVD version? Specifically, episodes 1 and 6 (maybe more) are alleged to be broadcast versions.

We also get the lovely Announcer-chan Todo (voiced by Inoue Marina) and Yoshinoya in a cheerleading outfit.

I'm quite confident that these are based on the DVD version. I base this on my memory of watching the episodes multiple times in various forms. Also, I highly doubt that TBS would have gone through the effort to give them a mixture of broadcast and DVD versions. That wouldn't make any sense at all.
I have no idea which site told you this or the specific person person that mentioned it. However for some reason, I tend to be very cautious about statements made by unknown sites that tend to say stuff that's questionable.
In general, most of the DVD versions were more or less polishing than anything else. The one episode where the difference between broadcast and DVD are the most apparent is episode 10, and yes Sentai does have the DVD version of that.

Well, the fact that Sae is oblivious and Natsume has the "best" and by that I mean "worst" strategy for romance ever, it's not like Hiro has to worry about her Sae being taken away.
Although if Sae ever did catch on, if Natsume ever did develop a more sound strategy, I have to wonder what Hiro would do. Would she take her domestic skills and use them to take out the competition? Nah, there's no way Hiro would be evil.

-Wtf is that tiger ghost thing in Yuno's closet? Or is that the shed outback? -AHAHAHAHHAHA It's a hose nozzle. Hehehehe.
-Miya loves big melons.

-Chika & Sae in an eyecatch. Sae in a hot bikini? Out of character!
-You'd think Miya would sink in the water since her digective tract is a black hole swallowing all edible matter.
-A topless Hiro steals Sae's glasses. Hiro you are a cruel one. :3
-Everyone gets a sexy beach eyecatch. Even Ume-sensei.
-Sae gets embarrassed by Hiro and covers her crotch as she spouts steam. Oh my.
-Aww, Yuno had a dream of swimming when Miya floated her sleeping body in the water.
-Man this episode has made the principal totally awesome. Sexy beam!

-Heheh, Yoshi was on teh roof dreaming about high school love. Such a ditz.
-Rice and a heart in the locker. Truely the perfect confession to Miya.
This was an interesting episode playing with our impressions of all the implied yuri in this show. By having all the girls think of boys asking them out and pushing Sae's lesbian under tones farther than ever before. You know, it never even occurred to me when I was reading the manga that Miya was actually playing bath stool jenga.
Highlight of the episode was probably Yuno's conflicted reaction to going into the presentation room. She reeeeeeallly wants to go... but at the same time it makes her scream in terror and block the doorway.
I also enjoyed Yuno's kamikaze curtain closing technique.
One scene that was spicier in the anime than in the manga--Miya does her ballet exercise bare-assed!
There have been a number of spelling and grammatical errors in the subtitles (and at least one translation error so egregious that a non-speaker like me got it), but I must applaud the subtitlers for correct spelling of Döner kebab (even getting the diacritic right).

-Miya hanging off the railings? If anything Miya is more of an eccentric artist and eats twice as fast. If such a thing is possible.
-Holy crap! Miya has summoned magical X funnels into Yuno's little world and exploded her life with joy. Yunocchi~
-"The complex is well known for attracting weirdos from teh art department." Indeed.
-Weirdo number 2.
-Hiro draws an identification guide rabbit. Yuno draws a story book bunny. And Miya draws... wtf did Miya draw?
-I didn't realise Miya was such an abstractionist.
-Weirdo number 3 is a corpse.
-Hiro ate some cake and can't go to the bathhouse. I hope she eventually recovers from her crippling eating disorder.
-Miya pulled a cart full of belongings from wherever she came from?
-Double bathing! Ducky is shocked by your behavior Miya.
-Hiro, waifu material. Sae, intellectual beauty. Miya, the innocent. Yuno, peace & light.
-Tentacles. Glasses. Paw. X.
Man, the art feels a lot more detailed this season. I guess the heavy use of CG is where they cut corners. It is a first episode of a new season but it had loads more energy than the first season did. Not counting the principal's super special awesome leap.
Nice to see how the characters all came together. In the simplest, most friendly and quickest way possible. Which exactly how it should go to fit the show as a whole. When Miyako gave Yunocchi her nickname was like a beam of pure love igniting their friendship. That was my favorite part.
The new OP is great. I'll probably watch it every time. Ending is nice, but the song is too calm for me. :noodle:

-Miya sniffing Hiro's crotch! Oh wait never mind, must be her lunch box.
-Wow it's already been a year. It seems like Yuno & Miya were just accepted to the school last episode. Ah how time flies.
-Chika passed her entrance exam And we get to see Sae's sweet little embarassed face strikes again.
-Seifuku Miya!
-Wow Miya's place is a horrible mess. I forgot that was her one true flaw. *sigh* Can't abide by a mess.
-Rotten fruit! Tentacles are scared. Sae save your beloved from the squishy things.
-Sae & Yuno oni. I have the urge to bean them.
-Principal! Chocolate! Yahoo~~
-Neko Miya!
-Sumo nabe. Miya is punished for he critique of Hiro's eating habits. Hah. Hiro ends up punishing herself.
Lots of Chika in this episode. Well more Chika by proxy emails. She's kind of an extra wheel to the character dynamics. But does produce lots of emotions from Sae, so that's good. I am always happy to see the landlady and Ume's little cameos though. Probably because they are so fleeting.

November 3rd!
- Miyako hands in Yuno's artwork! A bit early...
- Hah, Yuno is being pulled between Shakespeare and Monet. An epic tug of war!
- Yuno is unintentionally good as spot op?
- Yuno at gunpoint!
- Hahah, oh god, Yuno at the door. <3
- Mami and Nakayama are in Yuno's sketch!
- Miyako has french fries! Now I want french fries...
- lol, oh Yuno. Good art is accidental, apparently.
- And Miyako drew her lover~~
- Ah, this here! The music that starts up when they're walking to the public baths. I love it.
- Masa no Yu... Yuno-sama!!
- Ohhhh hell yeah. Hiro and Sae blushing as they get undressed. <3
- Water up to your shoulders... unless you're Yuno!
- Hiro, you may say you prefer curvy women, but your true love is Sae...
- The Xs come off! There's so much... naked! And it is good!
- Hah, Miya as the horse. And holy shit, Yuno leaks off the catwalk to pull the curtain closed!
- That was a wonderfully long bathing scene. Need more like it.

Ah, costume porn. No, not *that* kind of costume porn, the other kind.
I didn't understand the conceit of having Miyako and Yuno reminsce about having gone to the zoo--it didn't seem to have much of a point.
I like Yuno's unrealistic drawing in the anime better than the one in the manga.
Yoshinoya seems to be a lot more sympathetic in the anime than in the manga.

Yeah the flash forwarding to sitting at the kotatsu just seemed to be there to fill time. Pretty much the only time scenes didn't seem to fit in the show. Not just that everything else is done chronologically, they just felt tacked on and disjointed without being funny.
Yoshinoya seems to be a lot more sympathetic in the anime than in the manga.
So in the manga she's just an insane woman?

April 28th!
- Tour guide Yoshinoya-sensei! It's off to the zoo.
- I love Yuno's sunglasses.
- Nakayama Zoo? ...Does Nakayama's family own it? =D
- This is definitely part of why Hiro loves Sae. Sae is so fun, and easy, to tease!
- Ahahaha, Sae completely flubs her words.
- And Hiro thinks its adorable. <3
- Now I'm just imagining Hiro violently slathering skin moisturizer all over an elephant. It's pretty creepy.
- That BGM again... It's always too short. I wonder if the full version is a lot longer.
- Haha, lion under the kotatsu. Also love the "natural habitat" of the Malayan tapir.
- Miya's lunch: mayo and a head of cabbage.

- Awww, Yoshinoya really is an awesome teacher. Sometimes.
- Even Yoshinoya winds up getting fed by Hiro!

-You have to eat the crab sometime soon Miya. It will be deliscious!
-Everyone helps out by getting food for the kitty. Miya will split the cat food with kitty. Huh-what?
-Miya is a very very brave girl to wash a cat. While naked. No protection what so ever. While. naked. Nothing between her and the claws of a large tom cat. But her naked flesh.
-The demonic snoring of the fat kitty keeps Hiro awake all night. Ghost cat.
-The little pose doll in the background of Yuno's room is in a cat cleaning it's face pose. Such little artistic touches like that make me smile.
-"We've been eating the same thing for a week." Mi-Miya, were you ingesting catfood when there was crab in your fridge?
-Rubik's cube? Yuno's cat can solve a Rubik's cube!?
-Now the pose model has a cube.
-Miya is sleeping with kitty before she's married. Let us pray her parents can forgive her. *snicker*
-The sun bleached world after kitty has left is starkly beautiful.
-The nightmarish snores still haunt even Hiro's waking hours.
-Surprise! Miya bathing!
That was by far my favorite day yet. Even if it was only a half an episode. I am a sucker for a cat and pairing him with Miya makes me doubly happy. Miya being naked twice in the episode didn't hurt either. But really all the gags worked and made me chuckle a lot.

No argument here.
-Last year Sae drew lilies. Yuri~~ The way she says it is so sweet and obvious.
Drawing lillies? Does that count as subtle or blatant?
Hah! Both.
-Tickets for Yoshinoya on stage. *facepalm*
-Yuno is searching for something important and close to her. *cough*MIYU*cough* Will she ever find this thing?
-Wow a sudden zest of animation. And random characters I've never seen.
-Oh wait. Yuno's drawing at the festival was pencil on canvas? That's peculiar. I guess it started as a sketch to go under a painting and got to far in pencil stand to stop? *shrug*
-Pike! Miya checks to make sure the landlady isn't there. Man that's a long call back joke to last season.
-It's not good to draw when sleepy Yuno. You are more apt to screw up. Take a nap.
The whole episode was a call back to the second half of festival day fun. Amusing to see it broken up like this. Not in the unchronological Melancholy of Haruhi "What happens next? What happened before? When are we!?" way. In the standard playful way Hidamari doesn't really care what day it is as long as the girls have fun in the apartments and someone has a bath... Wait no one had a bath scene this day. Oh well the first half of the episode had twice the Miya bathing so I'll forgive it just this once.

Another Chika centric episode. She seemed more amusing when she was only mentioned or alluded to. Of course anytime she shows up it means even more embarrassment and emotion from Sae. Wow, that... that some how seems to be the naughtiest thing I have seen in Hidamari yet. And this show is filled with bathing and Yoshinoya's cosplay weirdness. But Sae in a maid outfit. Hot and dirty.
-Natsume has come to buy a book with one of Sae's dirty stories in it? So she acts like a bitch because she has a crush on Sae? Maybe.
Well, its pretty obvious that unlike Sae, Hiro is quite aware of what Natsume's "problem" is.
The fact that she isn't doing anything about it is interesting.
Well, the fact that Sae is oblivious and Natsume has the "best" and by that I mean "worst" strategy for romance ever, it's not like Hiro has to worry about her Sae being taken away.
"Put it in!" I guess I never payed much attention to Natsume to realise she was crushing on Sae by means of being mean to her. So Natsume's idea of courtship is the same as a grubby little 10 year old boy who thros bugs at a girl he likes.

I have to admit I'd like to see an episode takes place a year before Yuno and Miyako arrive. To get a chance to see what Hiro and Sae's life was like when Misato was in the apartment. Even if it meant a lack of Yuno.
That would be fun to see a world before Miyako. Misato is a goofy one. And her joking encourages Hiro & Sae's relationship. Dang it. Misato runs away her scarf flapping in the wind. I miss her already.

-There is a treasure chest in the crawl space by Miyako's room?
-Yuno has started making lunches for Miya. Waifu in training.
-Miyako is a peruvian line artist.
-Molestation by a pidgeon mafia.
-Flying saucer wtf!?
-Girl meets girl. Yoshinoya is a girl technically I guess.
-Yuno is de-skirted. Kitties~
-Defend your self with cleaning supplies Yuno. *snicker* And unconscious Hiro?
-"Carrying you was a real problem." Damn it Miya. Don't poke her weight issues with a stick like that.
-A kiss from Yoshi to awaken the sleeping princess.
-Miya pulled so hard, she pulled off Hiro's panties...
-Finally an anorexia intervention!
-Hiro's booty is so bountiful she bonked her head on the ceiling. hehehehe
-Maid Yoshi is knocked out and now haunts the school.
-Room 203 is making sounds. Monsterous sounds!
-The ghost of Toshi haunts Yuno. Resulting in another double bathing.
Room 203 was better when it was an unfathomable mystery. Now it's just rather confusing why Hiro insists it's a secret. It was nice how Yuno completely missed out on finding out anything.

-Tanabata!
-Okay, I've been letting it play but I guess not watching all of it. Because I just noticed Miya is eating something different in atleast the last two OPs.
-Sae doesn't know and doesn't care where Hiro is? They must have broken up. *sob*
-Dynamic camera angles!
-Awwww, Yuno's little "falling apart" day dream is so adorable.
-Hah! They get a magical free bamboo bush for Tanabata.
-They did break up! Hiro is eating like Miya now. What has happened to our happy little apartment couple!
-Natsume see's Sae & Hiro ignoring each other. Chance!
-Miya has read Yuno's diary. Angry Yuno! Still not as funny as the frying pan.
-Why are Yuno & Miya there as an audience to the apology?
-Hiro goes to cry into Sae's bosom. But Miya is there with a save to add a pillow as buffer... Why did you taco-blocko there Miya? Atleast Miya & Yuno left so they could have make up ... Cuddling. Yes cuddling.
-Oh Hiro's shadow is giving her hair a full Medusa effect.
-Two consecutive days? Impossible! Oh just a few seconds as another normal day starts.
Surprisingly sad little episode that ended exceedingly happy. Plus a few bits of extra animated animation. But if Sae & Hiro have a fight over something so trivial, can their relationship really last for long? Oh well atleast they are hand holding and "cuddling" for now.
HAH! Natsume totally blew her limited window of opportunity.

-Kitty! Chii~~
-Nice group shot of everyone at the end of the OP
-"Everyone told me I grew tall." They lied to you Uno. They lied.
-Hiro & Sae are still asleep late in the after noon... what have they been doing since they got back from new years break? *wink*
-Always remember to leave your address when calling on the gods. heh
-Confirmation the fan letter was from Natsume. Silly little scamp.
-Hiro, the gods want you to have a bit butt. This is no lie.
-Heheh, Miya's constant delayed reaction "Happy new year" gets me every time.
-Singing in the bath. Yuno's singing is good for once. Oh! Everyone singing in the bath.
So the new year is celebrated by singing the opening song to the first season while bathing? Sounds like a winning strategy to me.
It is a great way to close out the show. But wait there's more! For another night though.

-Hah principal taking Hiro's spot in the OP. Also alternate lyrics yay.
-Sae has taken up being a paparazzi
-Polaroidon! Heheheh a Godzillain sequence. Once again Hidamari knows how to push my buttons.
-Skull and crossbones punk Yuno. Nice.
-Hair extensions for Sae? OMG SAE IS A GIRL! Long hair on her is... mentally jarring.
-Sae with make up? Yuno has joined a rock band? Mustache Miya...
- One meal... two meal... three meal...
-"Interested in Hiro." Thank you for writing the obvious Sae.
-"My tummy clock is ringing" Miya is still adorable.
-Hiro wants to borrow Sae's camera for the night. I sense much steam coming from Sae's ears tomorrow.
-Oh pictures of all the other girls sleeping. Maybe they should lock their doors... Hiro is a naughty girl.

-Hiro flattens a bike's tires. Yuno forgot how to ride. Miya pulls a Kamen Rider pose while riding.
-Hiro's left handed? Her fashion sense seems even more old lady-ish today.
-Someone wants to interview the foursome?
-Kotatsu view from underneath. Now that's a camera angle I never thought of.
-Sae just told Natsume to jump on her! Okay on the back of the bike. But to Natsume that means an invite to jump Sae's bones.
-The emptying out of room 203.
-Could this be new students on the horizon?

-Naked Yuno in a giant umbrella? Naked Yuno drowning in the ocean is happy?
-Boy? What? there are no boys in Hidamari!
-Staring at Miyako's bra? Miyako doesn't wear a--!
-Yoshinoya wants to meet Miya after class. And strip! The entire class worries for her safety. As do I.
-Hiro's hair is an accurate meteorologist.
-Wow Yoshi's art prep room is an awesome little living/dressing room.
-Yoshi, goddess of tailoring
-Mariachi Yoshi!
-Lost things are found, but not Yuno's sketch book.
-Opposable toes to the rescue. Sketchbook came back.
It seems like I should feel empty after marathoning two season in a row. But Hidamari is so filled with joy. Plus there's another series to start. And to wait for DVDs to arrive so I can watch it all again.

Episode 12:
December 24th!
- FUCK YES CHIKA IS HERE! Kugimiiiiiiya~ Best minor character in the show! And there are quite a lot of damn good ones.
- This is like... ah, it's glorious. Sae is at her best when she's embarrassed, and nobody can bring that out like Chika.
- Yoshinoya is so nice, but her weirdness stands out anyway.
- Santa principal! Chika laughs, Miyako is excited, the rest just stare.
- Santa Yoshinoya... BETTER! Chika and Yoshinoya would totally get along. Love the picture of the two.
- Mean Sae made cute, innocent Chika cry! ;_;
- Miyako has a plan! Miyako is a genius! It works too.
- Chika and Yuno are falling asleep. Time for the kids to go to bed.
December 25th!
- And they all stay over in Yuno's room! =D
- Sadly Chika has to leave already. =( She looks seriously amazing in her outfit here, and it's obvious she already has Sae beat in one area. Her hair is amazing too - I like how she wears short hair way better than Sae (though Sae looks fine too).
- They'll all be apart for a little while. ;_; It's really fun watching them reflect on how they've changed as they've been together these past 8 months.
- And Sae gave Chika the autograph! They've seriously got to be one of the cutest pairs of sisters ever.
What a really wonderful way to end the first season (the TV broadcast, at least). I like how Yuno is wondering if they'll get a lot of snow - and she does, the exact snow that started this season. Cute little connections like that are why the achronological presentation works so incredibly well.
On to the specials.

August 11th!
- Welcome to Hidamari-s----::BOOM:: I was caught off guard by the old ひだまり荘 sign, but that's because they don't do it for another 10 days.
- The look of utter contentment on Yuno's face when she dumps the water into the soumen <3
- It's summer vacation, but all they've been doing is lazing around. What's missing? POOL!!
- EPIC PRINCIPAL JUMP FOR NO REASON.
- Landlady! Miyako loves watermelon. She should compare melons with Ikaros. And yes that sounded dirtier than intended.
- Landlady is fishing for souvenirs again...
- Yuno finds an Ume-sensei autograph!
- Yuno presents watermelon as well! Sort of. She looks so happy.
- Oh shit, swimsuit Chika eyecatch! YES! Sae is looking pretty good too.
- Sae goes for the bikini. She really seems like the type who would prefer a one piece. So does Yuno, but thankfully we get a bikini! Although as that Railgun episode taught us, one pieces can accentuate curves nicely on slim bodies. Anyway, Yuno looked super cute with the swim cap on too. But the Xs must return!
- Topless Hiro eyecatch!! And Sae without her glasses. Tragic.
- "There weren't enough lifeboats." Hahaha, oh Miyako.
- Sexy Sae eyecatch!
- And Yuno is swept away.
- Sexy Miyako eyecatch! Figures she has the least revealing swimsuit.
- Heh, Yuno contemplating how to enter the pool.
- Sexy Yuno eyecatch!
- Yuno floats!
- Hiro is loooovely when she's teasing Sae. Talking about that guy to get Sae jealous. =D
- Sexy Yoshinoya! Such a shame she and Chika aren't really here.
- Although she is at another pool...
- And some lady with an Ume-sensei bottom.
- Landlady in a swimsuit!! And a dramatic gun battle in the pool.
- Watermelon, sparklers, a summer night... the type of image I can see a thousand times and never ever get tired of. I don't know why, but it's just so relaxing.
Awesome, awesome episode.

November 27th!
- I don't like going outside on windy days either, Yuno. ;_;
- Man I love this OP. So many cute changes.
- Hiro got... a letter! Sae is horrified.
- Hahaha, Sae is a wreck. And of course Miyako and Yuno assume the letter is from Sae to Hiro. XD
- Yoshi~! She lives for this stuff. At Sae's expense. Like most things.
- I really, really wish we could meet the two girls Hiro is talking to when Yoshi barges in. This show needs more rarely present tertiary characters with names!
- Yuno's daydreams...
- Oh man, Sae is just absolutely adamant.
- NATSUME APPEARS!! And she's being so tsuntsun. That ain't gonna work, Natsume dear.
- "Mouth to Mouth!"
- Hah, so Hiro declined via letter and never saw the guy. Sae is the very picture of shocked relief.
- Also, this is an unusual angle to get in Hiro's room. We almost never see her bed (maybe Ume-sensei is on it often!) for example. Usually Hiro's room = dinner kotatsu.
- Ohhhhhhhhhhh god. Hiro gives Sae the most lovely look. And Sae thinks about the time she's spent with Hiro. It's a great moment.
- The things Yoshinoya will do for love... We don't get enough Kuwahara-sensei, btw.
- Sae, nobody believes you.
- Yep, the only man in Yuno's life is her dad. :sd:
- Hahahahaha, the rice in the locker.
- Ume-sensei is gonna raid Hiro's fridge.
- 17!
- Yoshinoya is an absorbent polymer!
- Bathing! From many angles!
A few days later...

Thus I finally finish rewatching season one. On to x365 soon!

Yeah despite the many character angles the room angles are often the same. Hiro's bed has shown up a few times. Just not as much as Yuno's ever present bed. Hey, have we ever seen Sae's bed? Does she just sleep on the couch or at her desk?

Also related to that sequence of events, apparently Yoshinoya-sensei's a fan of late 90s anime or something. All the text at 17:15, plus Yoshinoya's "Won't you dance with me instead?" line, are from the His & Her Circumstances ED. I know SHAFT loves referencing their own shows, but I have to hand it to them. An obscure reference to a song from a show from over a decade prior, by different companies, and sharing zero staff overlap with Hidamari X365... that takes guts. I have to wonder if that's something hardcore Western otaku are more likely to catch than hardcore Japanese otaku.
Of course, that could've been in the manga as well. But either way, the gutsiness part still stands.

February 10th!

- Wasshoi! I love the photographs at the end of the OP.
- And there's Miyako walking by with her face mask.
- Heh! Our "first" scene with Yoshinoya is, of course, her being late.
- I <3 Yuno and her eraser.
- And proctor Natsume!
- Yuno's mom is still waving, and Landlady needs a smoke.
- Sad Yuno makes me so sad. And we really need more of the girl who sits next to her.
February 14th!
- Haha, Yuno's mom teasing her = win. Especially the way she puts her hand to her mouth to cover up a laugh when Yuno winds up calling herself dumb.
- Ume-tentei returns to Hidamari-sou!
February 15th!
- The girl who sat next to Yuno got into Yamabuki!
April 5th!
- Ohh, right, Yuno's outfit as she moves away from home. Absolutely perfect. One of the cutest things she's ever worn.
- And she bonks her head right into the movign truck. XD
- The music stops and Yuno just O_os when she sees some strange girl hanging upside down...
- As soon as Miyako meets Yuno... FOOD! I think Miyako knew Yuno was the one the moment Yuno fed her.
February 10th!
- Miyako knew instantly she'd be moving into Hidamari-sou. =D
April 5th!
- Yunoppi! Yunoppei! Yunosuke! Yunoemon! Yunokichi! Yunonojou! Yunoyano!
- ...Yunocchi. Ahhh, the Xs blast onto the screen and blow away the walls surrounding Yuno's heart, and in that moment, she also finds true love. <3 One of the best scenes of the franchise.
- Weirdo #2! Hiro!
- MIya's art, as... Miyaish as ever.
- Weirdo #3! A corpse!
- And Yuno learns of Hiro's constant dieting.
March 5th!
- Miyako... did not get a moving van. :sd:
April 5th!
- God, Hiro is so damn NICE.
- Miyako jumps intp Yuno's bath! Hiro brings her wife some dinner! We have established the couples from day one.
- I alwasy wondered if there was any particular meaning to the numbers on Sae's wall. I'm assuming they come out to 365 somehow.
Such an awesome first (in more ways than one) episode.

February 6th!
- It's been nearly a year since the previous episode. In ep 1 we had Yuno waiting on exam results. In this episode, it's Chika!
- Huh, I just noticed for the first time that there's a brief shot of Yuno's awesome 4koma from Vol. 3 of the manga in the the OP animation.
- Texts from Chika! And now we know why Sae was so anxious at the start of the episode.
- The talk of one year reminds me... two special people will be at Yamabuki High taking their own exams in a matter of days!
- No chocolate for the principal. ;_;
- Chika passed! Yaaaaaaay! And she wants a party in her honor. Heh, Sae turning around and seeing the girls watching her was too cute.
- Hiro is always prepared.
- It's a texting party! Miyako gets a crash course in modern communications technology.
- Hahaha, Natsume just completely crumbles in the face of Sae's smile.
- Miyako in a middle school uniform!
- Heh, Sae is there to toss the icky rotten mikan for Hiro.
- Haha, the girls enjoy Sae's chats with Chika so much.
- I find it really amusing that the Principal is so happy to get chocolate from Yoshinoya. He's like a little kid - he only picks on her because he's got a crush on her! (and, well, she deserves it)
- The landlady is such a hard worker. :sd:
- Hiro can barely stifle her laughter at her wife's inability to cook.
- Hiro is surrounded by sumo-talk...
- Bathing! While thinking of Chika.
We just had an entire episode where nothing happened except some texting back and forth to Chika... and it was awesome.

- Late May, so Yuno's been a Hidamari-sou resident for a little under tqwo onths.
- Yuno is crazy. The only time I'm awake at 7am on a day off is if I'm still up from the night before.
- Oooh, it's this episode. Shrine visit! Art!
- Awww, mom and mom are seeing the kids off. I like Miyako's little ponytail.
- Yoshinoya can be nice and teacherly even on her day off! She recommends a good drawing spot for the girls. Goofy as she is, she knows her stuff. The idea of two of her though... We should meet her friend!
- Lots of stairs! Miyako makes Yuno lose count at 454. ;_;
- Ahhh! It's that BGM again. So short, but so... instantly appealing. It starts playing as Miyako and Yuno look at the statues. It feels like Touhou music at first.
- Suddenly there's a little girl in Yuno's lap!
- Yuno just can't say no to the wide-eyed sparkles.
- Yuno and Miyako report in with their parents when they return.
- Aomushi is still growing...
- "You only used them until fourth grade right?" "...Ah." The timing and the look on Yuno's face are both perfect.
- Landlady! I love Sawashiro in general but she's just so awesome as the landlady. Probably because she can be so understated. Like the "You're sharp" comment when Sae points out it's a company camera. Delivered perfectly.
- Room 203! ka~ ka~ ka~
- Yuno looks so very determined when eating the... butter natto... chips.

I do like how the DVD release splits the eps into .1 and .2 releases. I wonder if *** will do the same? Theres a lot of half eps there. It seems like it would be harder to do so with the way they segue into them with flashbacks. I guess they'll just be one continuous episode.

- CHIKAAAAAAA-CHAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!
- OH GOD SO CUTE. (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t299/anon09876/HidamariSketchx365-05SpoonSubsDVD00.png)
- I think Chika has the wrong idea about high school. Although living in Hidamari-sou and going to Yamabuki are made out to be pretty awesome... too bad reality is never like that.
- More use of the bookshelves. Blocking everyone but Chika and Sae!
- Awww, Chika is... jealous? Lonely? Both? Sigh, I so wish she were attending Yamabuki.
- Karaoke! Haven't done that since May 18th of the previous year. Much longer ago than Sae thought.
- It's closed. ;_;
- Yoshinoya remembers Chika! Those two work so well together. Chika needs Yoshinoya as a teacher...
- "You've held onto this for awhile" Hmm, she had it on March 16th in 4.1, but I don't remember how much earlier she actually got it.
- Nakedness! And singing!! Miyako's awesome singing and Yuno's... well. And dynamic animation! It was taking me awhile to figure out when this happened, but duh, it's just now, after they helped Yoshinoya clean.
- Who needs a karaoke box when you have the baths?
- Damn, it's all so utterly wonderful. Cake and presents and looove~
- "She even got Valentine chocolate from other girls." "I knew it!" Hiro just smiles. XD
- You tell her Hiro! It's nothing to hide. Yuno totally doesn't read the atmosphere, as usual. Hiro just smiles some more.
- Chika and Sae's scene alone together is just sweet beyond words. Chika really is feeling lonely without her sister, and jealous that Sae gets to go out into the world alone... but they're such great siblings when they open up a bit and don't fight. Looooooooove love love it.

This must be pretty early in Sae's career...she's known for her love stories, but they talk here as if she hasn't written any like that yet. April 7th!
- Ume-sensei hijacks the camera this time...
- Going waaaay back with this episode, to what is so far the second one chronologically after both parts of ep 1 of this season. Entrance ceremony!
- Haha oh Yuno, you had to ask Miyako if she wanted food? You can tell Yuno only moved in two days ago.
- Yuno smacks Miyako with a frying pan....
- Yuno's first (real) meeting with Sae! And it's Sae scolding them.
- Miyako and Yuno cause such a ruckus at the ceremony.
- MISATO-SENPAI! Koshimizu Ami!
- Too short! We really, really need some backstory on Misato.
- And they meet Yoshinoya. Five minutes is more than enough to get a feeling for what kind of teacher she'll be.
- Do it Yuno! Become a nude model!
- Miyako carries Yuno back home <3 Cute Yuno eyecatch!
- Awww... nice scene with Landlady, Yoshinoya and the Principal.
- Welcoming Party Challenge! Ume-sensei waves goodbye as they go shopping.
- Miyako and Yuno learn that the laws of motion are a fickle beast.
- Sae showed Natsume the shoe lockers. The moment Natsume fell in love.
- "Your wallpaper looks brand new" ...The things Misato must have done to Hidamari-sou.
- And Miyako secures herself a food source.
And, of course, bathing. Have to have bathing.

October 13th!
- In the OP the photograph is facing the other way, putting the school in the background. But they fall again anyway.
- It's finally time for the sports festival!
- I think I remember Miyako having another committee-like position in an earlier episode, but I can't remember what... and here she's on the sports festival committee. How does she get these positions? :sd:
- Haha, there's Natsume to challenge Sae again. <3 Oh how I love Fukuen Misato's voice.
- Yuno is useless in the scavenger hunt...
- Miyako was born for the obstacle course!
- And everyone is totally in sync for the centipede race. Behold the power of Hidamari-sou comrades, Natsume!
- Wait, an all white lunch when they're the red team? I guess it symbolizes overpowering and consuming your enemy >_>
- Ohhh, so that's why the landlady needs so much money. She's in debt...
- Haha, Hiro's lovely ass wins musical chairs.
- A six point gap in the final match! Yuno is the anchor in the relay race! PRESSURE!
- Beautiful Announcer Toudou-sama! <3 Inoue Marina.
- Sae passes Natsume! Yuuno gets the hand-off! And they win!!
- ...Well, as far as the art program goes. :sd: I always love this little reveal here. They avoid it all episode, and then "With 258 points..." Interesting that the Art program is only 1/3rd of the school. Though I guess that's still pretty large.
- Victory song! Sae and Miyako are into it, at least...
- Huh, you know, the gang doesn't hang out in Sae's room often. I just noticed she doesn't have any sort of central table for them to eat at like Hiro's kotatsu or Yuno's table.
- "...ecchi." Then Yoshinoya and Kuwahara promptly got it on.
- Natsume cried. ;_; That makes me so sad...
- Lovely Chocolat!
- TOUDOU-JACK!
- The girls are so easily swayed by commercials.
- Heh, I love seeing Miyako embarrass Yuno about the relay.

- Kinda sounds like Yoshinoya's mom is voiced by Ume-sensei.
- Oh, hah, right. The photograph this time is Yoshinoya cosplaying Yuuko. XD
- I love Yoshinoya's hair so much. The rest of her is quite nice too. Race queen!
- Yoshinoya-sensei is so incredibly dedicated to (what she perceives to be) her work. So hard work and dedication isn't her problem. It's priorities. :sd: Although what she chooses to prioritize usually ends up benefiting us.
- ...She's ridiculously hot. So many costumes! Such nice photos. The principal needs to appreciate the public service she's performing.
- I really like when the adults get to hang out.
- Natsume!! She's so very adorable sneaking around Hidamari-sou.
- Awww. See, the Principal totally appreciates Yoshinoya's good side. She loves her students deeply, and loves art just as much. She's a wonderful teacher!
- BATHING! Yoshinoya-style!!
Heh, the preview has the girls wondering what it'd be like if they were filmed. Wake up, school, come home, eat, bathe, sleep. It'd be a documentary!

December 3rd!
- Yay, all the girls watching Kishi's film. Kishi's parents too. :sd:
- What kind of movie would Miya direct? She'd manage to mix hollywood blockbuster and extreme art house and come up with... something incomprehensible.
- Kishi's movie makes everyone feel creative! Yuno sketches, Hiro cooks, Sae writes, Miyako... eats?
- Ah, Miyako animates!
- Heh yet another scene with the girls commenting on a commercial we don't see. These are always so strange.
- Awwww, Sae's fan mail. This ends up being one of her cutest embarrassment scenes.
- BATHING! And renewed passion for art from Yuno.
This show does work quite well in half-episode chunks, not that I want less than my half hour of Hidamari each week.

Being fed by Hiro must be a dream come true.
The meals she makes for them just can't be in a lone high school girl's budget. I definitely have to agree with whoever said (in whichever thread) that Hiro must be from a pretty rich family. She's just really down to earth about it, like Tsumugi from K-ON!.
Also, it occurs to me that we know even less about Hiro's family than we do about Miyako's.

Have we ever heard word one about Hiro's family or upbringing or anything? Miyako we atleast know she grew up poor, possibly on a farm, singing enka for change and always hungry. Maybe Hiro's family own one of the grocery chains so she secretly gets most of her food at low low prices. Or maybe they host an exersize show and gave her some of the equipment that ended up in room 203, plus instilled in her the weird body image issues. I've always figured that Hiro's family is at least moderately well off, since she never seems to have a shortage of money to provide groceries.

I remember Miyako said at some point that she had a brother too... Hiro might have told us she's an only child, when Yuno brought it up. Whenever that was. Either way I'd certainly expect Hiro was an only child. Although she's got such an awesome reliable onee-sama thing going on... she had to have practice at some point.
Well, that or she learned very quickly with Sae, and Miyako and Yuno reap the benefits big time.

June 8th!
- During the OP when three sets of hands clap, I've always noticed various things flying out but never stopped to look at exactly what it was. So first must be Miyako, since it's all food. Second is Hiro with various cooking implements. Third is likely Sae rather than Yuno because of the binder clips and such.
- Yoshinoya will have the most expensive shoes even if she has to guarantee it with force!
- Nakayama and Mami! Man, Shaft is just so inconsistent with Nakayama's design. Here her hair is a lot shorter than usual but she's got the mole. In a *** ep she's got long hair but no mole. And other times it's long hair and a mole.
- This scene also has a male with a speaking line. Very rare outside of the Principal or Mashiko-sensei.
- Yuno's clay shoes are bigger than her real sh--YOU'RE IMAGINING THINGS.
- Ahhhh, lovely Natsume scene. We're friends, right? ::Natsume is happy:: Oh I need to meet Hiro. ::Natsume is not happy!::
- Heh. One of the better Landlady scenes. "Haven't met her though..."
- Miyako pranks Sae. Miyako receives more blunt head trauma.
- Miyako meets the in-laws! An important moment in their relationship!
- "They don't have Xs." XD
- Yuno's dad is worried about Yuno liking a boy. Hahaha, silly Yuno's dad.
- Haha, starts to comment on the trap but gets stopped.
- The parents peek into 203!
- Yoshinoya met the parents too! It's hard to get a read on how just how tall she is. Right now she's barely taller than Yuno, but I'm pretty sure she's a lot taller than that in many scenes.

I'm sure Yoshinoya is as tall as Yuno, when Yoshi is a step down in the entrance way to the Hidamari rooms. Which means... I dunno. Yoshi's height might be inconsistent since we don't see her standing next to the girls as much as we see the girls by themselves. But Yoshi seems to be between Miyako & Yuno's heights.

That is easily my favorite line to date of all of the ones from all three seasons. It's hard to explain just why it tickles me so- but it's probably in part that I have to admit that the first time we saw her parents it was EXACTLY what I was thinking. :P
Thinking about it a bit (but not too much, since if I do I'll want to go down and look through the manga, and it's too late for that...), I think they've generally made a much bigger deal about Yuno's X's in the anime than the manga (though that particular line is straight out of the manga- and every bit as funny there...).

- Pigeon assault. >_>
- Alien assault. >_>
- And oversleeping.
- Pantsing (Skirtsing?)! Mami likes to remove girls' clothing!
- Speaking of pants, it's the mystery of the unconscious pants-wearing Hiro!
- Yuno and Miyako find out that Hiro used to live in 203!
- Bwahaha. Yuno tries to open the door, but Hiro covers her eyes. Nothing happens for a second... and then Miyako goes ahead and opens it the rest of the way with a fantastic look on her face.
- Oh god, Miyako is ruthless.

Room 203 was better when it was an unfathomable mystery. Now it's just rather confusing why Hiro insists it's a secret. It was nice how Yuno completely missed out on finding out anything.
Girl with weight body image issues takes on a part time job reviewing exercise equipment... sure it seems silly to outsiders but I can see why she'd be mortified to have other people find out. She's both weight conscious and conscious of her weight consciousness!

- HI DA MA RI...old sign.
- Hiro! Is also angry. Honestly, when you hear the story it's abundantly clear that it's Sae's fault. Also, such lively animation on the angry eating Hiro.
- Natsume and friends! Gaaah, we need names for her friends. One of them is Sawashiro Miyuki. I wonder how many characters she's voiced in this show.
- Natsume gets a few moments of bliss!
- Haha! Miyako is fantastic. Sae explains her side, Miyako listens, Miyako nods, Miyako bluntly informs Sae that Sae is totally at fault.

Naturally. I just won't be content until it's announced! Hidamari has done fairly well for Shaft... first season sold about 5.8k/vol, second season shot up to 8.1k, so Hoshimittsu could pass the 10k mark if it keeps growing... that would be wonderful indeed. I've had them send things out such that I got them a few days early before, but never 2 weeks.
It is the last of the things in its order that needed shipping out- but I've rarely had them hold on to shipments waiting for another item to be released (though they are pretty sharp about combining orders made at different times that drop at the same time- common since I wait and order things when they have their sales). Not that I'm likely to have much time to watch it for the next few months. I DO plan on popping in the last episode and grabbing a good-quality copy of what exists on the disc of them singing Sketch Switch for my iPod...
I thought Yume no Naka e was a Japanese pop song from 70's? Wasn't the Kare Kano version a cover and used that as their ending theme? It's similar to Love Hina using Ii Yuu da na in their soundtrack.
Yuno had something she was looking for, sagashimono. What if Yuno had forgotten something, wasuremono?
WA WA WA Wasuremono! Ore no wasuremono!
Anyway....
Yuno had to save Miyako from falling down the stairs. After watching some Japanese drama series, and knowing that gun ownership is illegal in Japan, I'm convinced stairs is the leading causes of accidental and intentional deaths and injuries in TV series.
Do the boys in class 1-A have their priorities straight? I'm glad they ogle Miyako and are thrilled at the prospect of her being bra-less. But everyday there's an easier target. Yoshinoya is right there for the taking. Yoshinoya as a cougar? She's not quite the stalker as Saori Shikijo from Mahoromatic so it could be okay.
Sae lost her spare pair, and for awhile, she was six eyes.
Yoshinoya's advice was good, but I can't beleive she thought of typical places to hide erotic books....
Yuno analyzing if Yoshinoya gave her a hint...
Hula Dancing -> Hawaii -> Loco Moco -> moko moko (fluffy fluffy) ->Futon!
Wait, wait, hold up. Loco Moco? This is unexpected! This is big as Kiyohiko Azuma drawing a box of Hawaiian Host chocolates in Yotsuba! volume 4!

Well, given how the focus of the show is on the residents of the apartments, I'd imagine that too much focus on the boys & Yoshi would distract from our usual Hidamari goodness. I think they probably do appreciate a good bit of her less-clothed antics but that the show just doesn't show them. It's not like we usually even SEE boys in the show beyond blue-colored cut-outs...
