Devil May Cry: Video Game vs. Anime

How is the Devil May Cry anime related to the video games? I just finished watching it, and I get the impression (that at the very least) I'm supposed to recognize names like Allen Lowell and Abigail.

You're not. Neither had a place in the game series' canon and not a whit's been spoken of them since.

Dante, Trish, and Lady are the only characters you'd have the chance to know.

As mentioned you will just recognize just Dante, Trish, and Lady in the games. Dante still has that loving pizza, with the kind of lazy attitude, and has that Devil May Cry office for hunting demons. Other than that there really isn't any relation to the games with the anime and just pretty much like a getting fans of the game to watch it.

All 4 games so far have been way better than this series offered.
