I'm currently watching Those Who Hunts Elves and a WTF moment happened in Episode 5, where the tank is possessed by the spirit of a dead cat called Mike causing the tank to act like a live cat, meowing, or chasing animals. WTF!!! I'm sure there are many, many more WTF moments I've come across, but this one just stood out. So I was wondering what others would choose as their ultimate WTF moment. The WTF moment could have made you laugh, cry, or made you scratch your head in disbelief. It could be a scene, an episode or even the whole series or OAV. Be specific, use spoilers if need be and have fun.

Elfen Lied- The 1st like 7 minutes. The story behind Mayu. Lucy's childhood whenthose kids beat up her dog. I'm sure i'm missing some others but to me those really stood out in the series that gave me a WTF? moment.

Yeah, that's a good one. It made me cringe!

The last 5 minutes or so of the first episode of Ga-Rei Zero. There's little else that I can remember leaving me just sitting there completely stunned and going, "Wait, WHAT!?!?!?!" like that did...

Let's see. I would say my biggest WTF moment would come in the final episode of Haruka Nogizaka's Secret Purezza. Just watch it and you will know what I am talking about.

Just watch it and you will know what I am talking about. Now I'm rewatching the episode to see what you might be referring to. I didn't remember any WTF moments in it, but maybe I'm just being forgetful...

Edit: I'm guessing maybe the failed Shiina confession or the Eva Parody in the credits?

If you mean "WTF this is kinda lame" then I guess I could agree... otherwise I don't know what you could be referring to.

I'm not sure what he's referring to either. Although part of it is because I haven't seen the episode in awhile. Combine that with the fact the series is watchable, but not memorable.

That being said, in some ways the topic is kind of vague. Since you could in theory have a WTF reaction to things that others wouldn't even so much as bat an eye at.

There are many different types of WTF moments and this one falls under the category of "WTF was the point of all that?" moment. As for the type that was mentioned by the thread starter, I am still thinking about what that would be since I find that to happen infrequently.

The scene I mentioned falls in the WTF what were they thinking moment, all the while laughing my head off. I suppose you could say Those Who Hunt Elves the series is a total WTF.

Yeah, I've gotta agree that this belongs here. I remember going, "WTF????" more than a few times the first time I watched that. Definitely a damn good movie though- and for the longest time one of the best-looking shows I had to show off my first HDTV set with...

Higurashi/When They Cry - episode 5 begins with cute little Rika stabbing herself in the head with a laughing "Mion" (whom the audience would assume should be dead, since the "reset" will first be called to their attention in the NEXT scene) in front of her. So we don't know how "Mion" (it's actually Shion, of course) is alive, and we don't know why Rika is killing herself. Sure, it makes perfect sense later on, but on first view, the audience has to be scratching their heads in mass-confusion.

Can't really argue with that.

I'd have to say that the last minute or so of the most recent episode (#10) of Durarara!! would probably count as well, though I'd class it as, "Oh shi..., seriously?!?!" more than 'WTF'...

For WTF moments, I'd have to nominate, well, pretty much all of FLCL. If I had to pick one particular bit, I'd go with the baseball episode - what with robo-Pop, stick-on eyebrows, and the baseball of doom, its kind of hard to top.

A close runner-up would have to be Millenium Actress, specifically the first movie segue, when the interviewer shows up as the captain of the guard.

That aspect of the final episode was just wrong. Actually, several aspects of the final episode were just wrong. Whether or not the wrong was the bad type or the good type was a case by case basis.

OK, I have thought of some more WTF moments of different categories, starting with the one I said about being the "WTF is the point of all that" moment:

WTF was the point of all that?: Haruka Nogizaka's Secret ~Purezza~ episode 12 where Yuto and Haruka were stranded in a cabin about to kiss each other in the nude, until the maids break in and seeing the cabin is actually right next to the hot springs hotel. It fits that mold since I was hoping that this season would build upon the last season, but all it did was have all these pointless side stories with all these one-and-done characters.

WTF? Man, that was a great shock to my system!: Texhnolyze episode 1. Almost no spoken dialogue with the first lines coming like 15 minutes in makes it is worthy of a WTF.

The whole thing is a WTF.: Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade

WTF? Things were great until I saw this.: Evangelion, episodes 25-26 of the original release.

WTF? It was unexpected, but a great twist to the story.: Vandread in the episode where BC is revealed to actually be a guy.

All of Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan especially that kid who turned into a dog that humps people, the monkey, and what happens when you take the halo off plus with how many times that kid dies from Dokuro and comes back to life even with all of that blood that comes out of him each time.

The whole thing is a WTF.: Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade

One of the few titles I couldn't get through. A serious WTF!

The first episode is absolutely wonderful, but the rest of the show was sorely unable to live up to it (and probably should've ended in episode...like, 9 or 10, I think).

In keeping with the thread topic though, and being on the topic of Abenobashi, I'd specify episode 4 and some of its particularly lewd content (Sasshi peeing against the glass dome of the space station, Arumi spending a good portion of the episode wearing nothing from the waist down) as some good WTF material, and the entire episode in general due to how offbeat it was both action- and animation-wise thanks to being helmed by Hiroyuki Imaishi of Dead Leaves and Gurren Lagann fame.

I had a slightly different kind of WTF moment when watching Utena the other night - at one point I was sitting back and letting the second ending theme play, idly thinking about how it was an interesting song but the lyrics weren't even trying to make sense. Then the chorus kicked in with the "Lunar heaven, Mercurial heaven, Venusian heaven, Martian heaven, solar heaven, Jovian heaven..." etc. and I suddenly sat up and went "Wait a minute, that's Dante!" (On further reflection, it's probably supposed to reference Aristotle, not Dante, but that was what came to mind.) Teach me to ever assume anything in Utena is meaningless. Obviously, I need to go suss out the deep philosophical meaning of the boxing kangaroo.

That's my favorite thing about Utena. It's a treasure trove of symbolism and metaphor.

And the best part is that whenever Kunihiko Ikuhara is asked "what does this mean?" about Utena, he remains playfully coy. :sd:

Though for the lyrics to "Virtual Star Embryology", we have J.A. Seazer to thank.

Ponyo and Sousuke meet this couple towards the end of the movie when they were trying to find Sousuke's mom. The couple had a baby with them. Ponyo offers some of the soup they were carrying to them and mentions that the soup was for the baby. The baby's mom says that the baby is too young but however the soup can help nourish the baby with the milk she provides for him.

I know I already brought up Super Milk-chan, but I reckon I have to mention the foul-mouthed robot dog. Hearing him spout profanities was a bit of an eyebrow-raiser there.
