Hey guys,

I noticed that the Studio Ghibli UK DVDs are much cheaper than the North American ones, at least here in Canada. I was wondering if there are any differences between the US and UK discs. I have a region-free player so that's not an issue.

The UK discs will be Pal not NTSC and very few Canadian TVs will play them (I've only seen a few off brand Chinese TVs that will). They will play on a computer that is region free.

Disney is over priced in Canada, most often I find it's cheaper to buy from the US and pay shipping then buy in Canada.

Most if not all Ghibli DVDs in the UK are now distributed by Optimum rather than Disney, and they do a much better job of it; avoid the Buena Vista discs as they usually had less extras than the US equivalent and often had subtitles.

I don't know how things work over there, but over here from what I understand, as long as you have a non-composite connection (i.e. RGB Scart, presumably the same applies for component) the issue is more one of whether your TV can handle the framerate (i.e. 50Hz for PAL, 60Hz for NTSC) than the actual standard in use. Some region free players can convert alter the output - I know my sister's old one could convert NTSC to PAL.

Thanks guys, will probably watch on the computer, so PAL is not an issue.
