There sure are a lot of high schools in anime. Which one would you want to attend?
How about the unnamed high school in Azumanga Daioh? There are quite a few cute girls without boyfriends in that school. And the teachers are hot.
How about Mahora Academy? Oh, sure, Negima takes place in the junior high, but there are schools from pre-school all the way to post-graduate studies.
Are you a man among men? Misanthropic? Don't mind that your classmates are a robot, an ape and Freddie Mercury? Then Cromartie High is the school for you.
Are you a girl in desperate need of more yuri in your life? Are you Catholic (or Catholic-curious)? Don't mind being indifferently animated? How about any of the three schools in Strawberry Panic? St. Miator, St. Spica and St. Lulim will all cater to your needs with a system designed to turn everyone into lesbians.
So what high school do you want to attend?

All of them. There's a reason I play dating sims. Actually, can I "attend" without actually "attending"? Nothing would be more boring than having to live the parts that are skipped in anime, manga, and visual novels. Otherwise, Tsukimiya Ayu's high school is the best since there is no homework, you can wear whatever you want, and you can arrive whenever you want.

Part of me could come up with quite a list.
The rest of me says regardless of the high school having to go back may be the 10th level of Hell even Dante didn't want to write about.

I've always thought that part of the reason I love the high school setting so much is that I did not, in fact, actually attend one (although I graduated from one--it's complicated). So maybe it's just nostalgia for something I never had.

That may actually explain a lot of it.
Kind of like hotdogs. It's never the same once you have actually been in the factory going through the motions of making them.

With the caveat that I'm living the idealized high school life, as seen in the shows in question, and not actual high school life, which I'm not too keen on repeating, as others have mentioned... :sd:
How about the unnamed high school in Azumanga Daioh? There are quite a few cute girls without boyfriends in that school. And the teachers are hot.
I'd be good for that school. As long as I'm in the same class as Osaka. I'd have to deal with the erratic Yukari for a teacher, but for Osaka it'd be worth it.
The high school in School Rumble would be another great place to be.
The high school in Kannagi.
Better yet, the school in Hidamari Sketch.
Being a classmate to Makoto Konno in The Girl Who Leapt Through Time would be quite nice.
If only Lillian Academy were an option... but alas I have a Y chromosome. :depressed:
On the other end of the spectrum, there's Ohtori Academy from Utena. Going to the movie version would be like living in an MC Escher drawing. Then there's also the whole fluid reality thing. If I could be sure that I wouldn't be one of Akio's pawns, sign me up for Ohtori. :sd:
And I probably wouldn't want to go to Shinyo Academy from Boogiepop Phantom, with all of the freaky stuff going on there.

I'm actually a high school drop-out (but now a teacher...isn't life wonderfully ironic?). I find it interesting how idealized Japanese high schools are in anime. As an American, it's a rather odd twist from the 50s or something.
Going the Harry Potter route, some of the magic schools are nice. Aoi Acadamy from Maboraho perhaps. Hot chicks by the ton, magic, teachers who are playing Gameboy. Can't go wrong there.

This is an easy one. Ouran High. I "accidentally" enter Music Room 3 thinking it might be a library. Then I "accidentally" knock over a vase. The Ouran guys give me a quick makeover and make me a host to repay my debt. So now I have to spend a few hours each day being fawned over by countless girls? Oh, the "agony"! ;)
Alternatively, if we can ignore the whole war/racism aspect, Code Geass' school, but only if I could get on the high school council. Mainly because they seem to have so much fun, though I'd be fighting Rivalz for Milly's affection (unless I happen to bump into C.C., that is).
Schools I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole:
Evangelion: because you're automatically a potential Child, and I like my life not being horribly destroyed
Pani Poni Dash: if I can become a main character (as in, the teacher bothers to either remember my name or give me a nickname), no problem. Otherwise, I become a silent, really creepy-looking figure
Serial Experiments Lain: mindscrew has bad effects on one's grades, or so I heard

I'll go for a new answer and say Muroe High from Bamboo Blade. And not so coincidentally join the kendo club with it's own personal pet (or Tama-chan as she's known as). You get a kick ass warrior of justice combined with 4 cute girls not taken *and 1 cute one which IS...Dan you bastard* and a very interesting club leader to keep your life entertaining.
And dibs on Kirino - sweat fetish withstanding. ^^

Momotsuki Gakuen from Pani Poni Dash would be my first choice just because it is the wackiest place ever :)
Second choice would be the Nagano Prefectural Kizaki High School from Onegai Teacher, because there are a lot of things I want Mizuho-sensei to teach me ;)
Lastly would be Rakuyou Koukou from Ikkitousen, because it had both Ryofu and Kaku!

Definitely one of the high schools that make up Mahora in Negima (after all, I don't know if there's separate schools for boys and girls there or not).
Yes, that means that I'm not in the same class as Negi's students since I'm a guy (of course, I can always join the Library Exploration Club, since that's probably for all genders and grades :catgirl: ). However, given what I've seen in the manga, Mahora definitely looks like a fun place to live, given all the "magic" that's in the air and various things that the school-based city has to offer.

Either School Rumble or Cromartie High School, for all the laughs.
Based on VNs, either Shuffle! (an interesting set-up with humans, demons and heavenly beings integrated in the same system), or Da Capo (just so I can see Kotori/Nanaka!! :beatingheart:).

This is easy: the high school from To Heart, particularly the anime version. Everyone's pleasant and courteous, friendly study sessions are easy to arrange, and the whole studnt body congenially works together at festival time in the best collegial spirit. Not to mention that the sun is always shining, the birds and/or cicadas are always chirping, and you never know when you might meet the love of your life.
I remember when the first VHS fansubs of To Heart arrived. 1999-2000 saw me trying my damndest to get out of my prison of a high school as fast as humanly possible. I was one of the school pariahs, the black prince of nerds, and to say that the rest of the student body made my daily life a living hell, well, that would have been far too generous. Every day was pure, abject torture, and on more than a couple occasions I attempted what some might call extreme means of ensuring that I'd never have to set foot in that accursed building ever again.
Those To Heart tapes were among the very few things that helped me retain my sanity at the time. That show, and its world, became my refuge. I'd stumble home each day, broken and on the verge of tears, collapse into a chair in front of the TV, and try as hard as I could to pretend that I was actually over there, in that tranquil world, and that all this was just a horrible nightmare.
I would pay anything to be able to turn back time, attend a high school like the one in To Heart -- provided, as others have noted, that it was as depicted in the game/anime, and not reflective of real-life high schools -- and make it so that my real-life high school years never happened.

Tomobiki High. Between alien incursions, otherworldly school festivals, and a flying tiger-striped bikini girl, it's not likely to be dull. Potentially hazardous, yes, but not dull.
Runner up: Ohtori Academy, because, hey, the student council uniforms! And fencing!
2nd runner up: Mahora Academy. Are there even any boys in Mahora Academy? Nevertheless, I'm of a mind to join the Library Exploration Committee.

Well, I would attend the High School from Air TV hands down.
Not only because Misuzu, Kano, and Minagi attend there but also because apparently Ayu, Nayuki and Makoto from Kanon are also in attendance!
Everyday would be filled Gaos, Uguus, Nyuus, and Auus :beatingheart:
Add in a cute little dog(?) and it's hook, line and sinker. Piko!
Now, if I could choose an elemetatary school, as a teacher, I would choose the school from Strawberry Marshmallow. Of course, only the class with Matsuri and Ana as I am pretty sure I would kill myself if I had to teach Miu. And yes, I would send Sasazuka outside for no reason.

My first choice would be Mahora Academy. There's just too much awesome going on there. And yes, there are plenty of males at that school. Just look at the Mahora Fest Arc. Just as many guys as girls.
If I couldn't get in there, maybe the military academy on Shimoji Island from Stratos 4. Lots of cute girls and saving the Earth. I would get to fly the legendary BAC TSR as well as the Yak-28 as a trainer. And did I mention the girls? Short skirts and panty shots everywhere. It is a Studio Fantasia show after all.

Yeah, you are something of an anime/manga linguist.
'Gokigenyō' in fiction is modelled upon a real-life expression used by well-bred Japanese girls. Japanese well-brought-up girls who attend some real-life prestigious schools, like Gakushūin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gakush%C5%ABin), Atomi, etc., use the expression 'Gokigenyō.'

Speaking of 'Gokigenyō' in schools, in Hyakko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyakko), since ordinary people rarely hear the sociolectal expression 'Gokigenyō' except in fictional works, when Iizuka Tatsuki said, 'Gokigenyō,' Kazamatsuri Tōma was surprised at it.

No need for drastic measures! If I'm going to put myself in a fictional school where significant changes to my person are necessary, I'd much rather take the Jun-Puu route. :sd:

For higher education: Nekomi Tech. I'd have to join the Motor Club since that would be the only way I could hit on a goddess (not Belldandy since she has eyes only for Keiichi, but Urd).
For other grades: Mahora Academy. Like others I'd join the Library Exploration Club, though not to get acquainted with the girls. I want to explore the library. It's like Jorge Luis Borges' Library of Babel or Terry Pratchett's Unseen University Library.
And if there were some gender change involved, I'd want to enroll in that school located in Ariadne (as mentioned in Negima's 20-ish volumes) and try to qualify for their War Maiden Brigade.

Hear, hear. Though I get the feeling she doesn't suffer fools gracefully, so you'd have to bring your A-game or get thrown out on your ass.

I'm obviously not a genius like Yue. However, I am as lazy as her when it comes to homework. Except I also manage to get good grades in the process. That's to say, while I could never win an argument with her, I wouldn't be in the Baka Rangers either. At the least, I could follow her and perhaps ask questions (unless the topic is music or math beyond basic calculus). And yes, her history lessons are among my favorite parts of the manga even if no one else pays attention. ;_;
Actually, thinking about it, I'm kind of like Nodoka (voracious reader of all topics). Perhaps that's why I like her so much. It's always nice to have an anime character that likes to read.

No Negima girl fascinates me like Mana Tatsumiya. However, I would most likely get shot before I get a word in edgewise. And thinking back on the Mahora Festival arc, that probably is what would happen, though I get the feeling she would just shoot me on principal.
Oh, yes, the Tatsumiya Shrine would be another draw for me in choosing Mahora.
