I'm noticing a trend...

Just why are more and more users finding the need to explain everything they say by defining it as a trope? Personally, I think it's a complete waste of time. Do people really feel the urge to be Captain Obvious and think that we need them to explain the joke?

Really, I think it's just peer pressure.

I don't know about you guys, but frankly, I just don't need all of those annoying arrows telling me what is meant.

If you want to explain something to me, explain it, don't just link to it.

When people use it in internet and real life conversations, it becomes irksome because they think it makes them better and more intelligent. As a result, I begin to question what kind of social or otherwise life they have if they memorize all the TVTropes. On top of that, some use tropes in their work reports that they turn in at the end of the day. Really.

Agree with both of you there. Even if I know what people are talking about, I still find it annoying. But then I find internet slang to be pretty irritating in general anyway.

I do like to wander through that site every now and then though. It's fairly amusing at times.
