I'm the same. I don't really have a favorite style of music, I like all types. When people ask "what music do you listen to", I usually just answer "all types" or "I don't mind".
There can be nothing more relaxing than lying down in my room, with the Angelic Layer soundtrack coming out of the speakers, or if I am in a different mood, I put on all tracks I own sung by Ritsuko Okazaki or Nana Mizuki. Yes, I do have my favorite artists, but doesn't everybody? |

Yeah everyone is going to have their favorite artists, favorites songs, and I'm sure on osts we each have tracks we listen to more often than others.

Ah, yes, the "What music do you listen to?" question. I always feel like a weirdo for never having a specific answer for that question. I haven't made a hobby of music, but I do like a wide range of stuff, whether anime/game-related or not. Actually, if there's anything I could be more specific with, it's what I don't like (a few things that my siblings seem to like... Hah...)

I have very eclectic tastes, ranging from classical, to rock, to electronica, to anime theme songs.
I respond much more strongly to an individual song than to any genre or style. |

I think most people can find something in any genre they like. One of the reasons I like Frank Zappa is that he pretty much created music in as many possible genres as he could find. And he did it well.

For example listening to tunes on an OST after watching a show can spark memories of certain series. Like listening a to tune that played during a dramatic and awesome scene.

My tastes in music are extremely eclectic, and get more so as I get older. I discover new types of music, or reevaluate other types of music I had dismissed before, so there's always something new.
As for anime and game OSTs, I have quite a few. Well, I think it's more accurate to say I have a lot of music from Japan, and a good part of that is soundtracks. I think I have about 300 CDs of Japanese music, and about 100 of them are anime or game related. The rest are J-pop, J-rock and even Japanese oldies. I have a whole series of CDs that cover Japanese popular music from 1960 to 1990, and they're awesome. I've found a lot of anime songs are actually oldies that date back 30 or more years ago, like the ending to Tenamonya Voyagers or Abenobashi. |

My tastes vary somewhat, but tend to center around certain musical characteristics. I don't really listen to lyrics but rather to harmonies and how instruments sound together. Certain patterns of notes or repetitions just really resonate with me, and I never know where I'll find the next one. They can sometimes stir very powerful emotional reactions too, which is why I have such a strong interest in music and specifically music reproduction. I'm always trying to make the experience more engaging and pure.

As far as my tastes go I'm also all over the map. I like Rock, Pop, Classical music, anime music, video game music, and many others. That said I find it strange that the music tracks I like to listen to tend to be more sad and dramatic and stuff rather than happy. I don't know why that is, especially since I consider myself a happy person, and I do love upbeat music as well. Anyways, I feel "alive" when I listen to music. |
