Anyone familiar with Technosoft will know them as the developers famous for the Thunder Force games. However, among the TF games, their catalog also contains some rather interesting titles. One title in particular is Blast Wind.

Blast Wind is one of only two vertical scrolling shmups that Technosoft made (the other is Elemental Master). Apparently it was actually going to be an arcade game called Inazuma Sabre but it was canned and instead ported to the Saturn (which explains why...

You know how sometimes when you find a popular music artist you look at their discography to see if something sticks out? Well, I recently had a case of that with one of my favorite game music artists, Manabu Namiki. Turns out Namiki worked on game music for a company called NMK back in the 90's (which I think still exists today but like most Japanese game companies now makes prize machines ). You probably read the title to this and thought "Wait, there's a Galaxian 3? Where's Galaxian 2 then?" Well, Galaxian^3 (or Galaxian Cubed, or Galaxian To The Third Power or whatever you want to call it) is not truly a Galaxian game persay, it's actually part of Namco's "UGSF" (United Galaxy Space Force) timeline along with Star Luster and Starblade among other games.

Obscure Gaming #1: Slap Fight

My first choice for this blog is a little gem called Slap Fight. No, it isn't a fighting game and it has nothing whatsoever to do with slapping. (The game is also known by the name Alcon or A.L.C.O.N.) It's a shmup (shoot-em-up) for short and it's one of the first games made by Toaplan (better known for Zero Wing which popularized the All Your Base phenomenon).

The game was first released in arcades in 1986, then got a port to the Megadrive in 1993 by Tengen. Ports were also made...
