Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei release update

Once upon a time, Vol.1 had a release date of 5/25/10 (solicited on 2/18/10) before getting delayed indefinitely (revealed on 3/8/10). TRSI removed the Vol.1 product listing on 8/4/11.

Below is what's known thus far after the TRSI de-listing:

Rightstuf recently removed that really old listing for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei vol.1 that was put on hiatus and never came out. Is there any update regarding this title? :)

When is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei coming? Will it have a dub and be released on Blu-ray?

Man, happy to see that its still being 'looked at'. Hopefully they are able to pull through with it one day. Way too in love with the show to never own it. Hopefully BD too.

Last time it was early 2011. This is why I bought the BD Box.

Well, I guess it's good that they are still trying?

I've got to wonder just what is plaguing this release, though.

On the positive side, the more time passes, the more likely we are to see a blu-ray release.

Well, not really.
This show is very niche and I can only assume the huge delays are because they are unsure on how to handle the show.

The simple approach is to do a sub-only release, but this show takes a hell of alot of advanced DVD subbing to do correctly. You then have all the stuff that you can't possibily add subs to, so linear notes may be needed. This bumps the price up to the premium range some-what.

The other method is to go all-out, take a massive gamble, and dub the show.
This one I can't really see happening as the show is all about Japanese cultural references and rants, so a dub wouldn't really being in too many extra customers.

The ideal method for us fans, is if they do what NIS America did with 'Arakawa Under the Bridge'. By this I mean sub-only, DVD/BD set.
BD wouldn't really take advantage of season 1, since that would be an upscale, but if the show did well then the BD format and inclusion would be taken advantage of.

Overall though, at least Media Blasters aren't just sitting on the license and they actually have some sort of plan for the show.
What that is remains to be seen.

I wouldn't expect a dub, and regardless of how niche the show is, my point remains valid, the more time passes, the more DVD will start to look like an obsolete format, the more likely a modest release will nonetheless be done on a blu-ray disc.

So, several years. Say 2016. I'd say that's realistic for when DVD's will become obsolete as a format entirely-- at the earliest anyway.

I'm in despair! :(

Seriously, though, while I would love a dub, even I don't think it's a good idea financially for this show. I certainly do hope that we get a bluray release after all of the waiting. A combo pack would be even better.

ADV did a good job with all of the background stuff on Pani Poni so if MB did something like that, then it would probably work out well. I do want all of that stuff translated, though. There is a lot of funny stuff going on in the background of this show.
