FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
Waiting in the Summer

HOUSTON, January 5, 2012— Sentai Filmworks is very proud to announce the acquisition of the eagerly awaited new anime WAITING IN THE SUMMER (ANO NATSU DE MATTERU), which is already drawing considerable buzz due to its re-pairing of several already highly successful creative partnerships. Legendary anime writer Yōsuke Kuroda (Excel Saga, High School of the Dead, Puni Puni Poemy,) reteams with his PLEASE TEACHER!/PLEASE TWINS collaborator, original character designer Taraku Uon (READ OR DIE, TV and OVA,) while director Tatsuyuki Nagai (Toradora, Honey & Clover II,) reunites with his TORADORA/ANO HI MITA HANA collaborator, character designer Masayoshi Tanaka (also HIGH SCHOOL OF THE DEAD,) to produce a unique 12 episode anime series that takes a rather different view of the classic teen romance genre.

Lights! Camera! Teen Angst! When a group of friends decide to make a movie over a long summer holiday, they end up learning a little about filmmaking and a lot more about each other and themselves. What begins as a simple way to avoid the summer doldrums quickly turns into something much more complex, intimate and revealing, as the maturing relationships between the members of the young cast take on new, and sometimes very unexpected, turns. Get ready for a whole new take on summer romance as hidden emotions get captured and secrets meant to be kept hidden inside young hearts instead spill off of the screen for your viewing pleasure in WAITING IN THE SUMMER!

Waiting in the Summer will debut on digital platforms starting this month with a subtitled DVD to follow later in the year.

I would have hope for a BD for this... I don't know if I'll get this now...

I'll be checking it out on CR, but too soon to say if I want it yet. Looks like it could be good...

Out of all their recent licenses, this has to be one of the few that gets a sub-only DVD-only release? What the hell? Well there goes the guarantee that I'll be getting it, but if I like it as much as Toradora! and Ano Hana, I will even in this form.

Yeah, because they're only promising a DVD at the moment, I can't take it off of my 'possible-import' list. If I like it, I'll want it in HD.

I just recently bought the Toradora! BD box from Amazon... I might double-dip if NISA upgrades to BD.

Sounds like an interesting show. I will be checking this out on CR to see if I like it. I especially like the close resemblance to the Please Teacher characters in the designs.

A Madman Ent. (not solicited yet) DVD complete collection cover art has surfaced: http://cdn.madman.com.au/images/slic...ge/mma4431.png

It's looking like we may see Sentai Filmworks solicit this release soon (maybe as soon as December).

I don't like Sentai anymore. They're just snatching up everything right and left and DVD'ing it up, or if on Blu-ray, more barebone than what I would feed the dog that I don't have.

NIS America is the only company that releases stuff the way I want it (Lain from Funi might be an exception), but how are they supposed to license anything when Sentai keeps popping up?

I had high hopes that either this, Tari Tari or Kokoro Connect could get a NIS America release, but no chance. Kinda made sense that they licensed Umineko, because what's left? Ok, I know there's still unlicensed stuff out there that we'd all like to see licensed, but I think NIS America wants newer shows first and foremost.

Without going too much more off topic...

You have to understand that NIS America is still primarily a video game company. They are slowly increasing their anime releases every year. This is the smart business approach.
