Sengoku Collection discussion thread

戦国コレクション

I hope pre-modern East Asian historical gender-swapping never goes out of fashion. But can this be a worthy followup to Koihime and Sengoku Otome? [Edit: Goddamnit, no, it won't, there's a male lead. ;_;] [Edit2: Or maybe not!] (Also what the fuck this is being done by Brains Base?)

Airs Friday, April 6 at 01:45 JST on TV Tokyo

Animation studio: Brains Base

Episode 1

*Nobunaga bumbs into generic male lead character 5 seconds after the OP ends*

Goddamit, Japan.

Then we get to "enjoy" about two minutes of him freaking out over Nobunaga getting undressed and being naked. Oh joy.

Nobunaga is a lot of fun though. And she's voiced by .... Ookubo Rumi, who was Ako of Suite Precure, Chinatsu in YuruYuri and has role in Acchi Kochi. And that's about it, really.

*looks at the rest of the seiyuu cast* Hanazawa Kana is going to be Tokugawa Ieyasu (who I assume is the blue-haired loli that gets appears right after Nobunaga in the OP and ED) and Noto Mamiko is going to be Uesagi Kenshin. Very nice.

It was a cute episode other than the annoying surprise male lead and the particularly irritating scenes that came with it. Other than those issues, I'm already liking this more than the last Sengoku genderswap series I watched (and never got around to finishing). Hopefully the show keeps male lead guy's (I forgot his name the moment it was mentioned; actually, I'm not sure it was even said) exposure to female flesh to a minimum.

Huh...I don't think the guy is a main character at all. Interesting. It seems this is going to be done in a sorta vignette style.

I really liked this version of Nobunaga, and her clothing design is top notch, especially those boots.

Edit: Oh god, its directed by Gotoh Keiji! Ahahahahaha...I have to keep watching now.

Episode 2

Yay, Hanazawa Ieyasu! And she just wants to dance and sing and have fun! Why is everyone being so mean to Ieyasu? ;_; And then she really does become an idol.

The first episode was pleasant and mildly fun, but this episode was pretty awesome. I knew there was little chance of this becoming SengokuM@ster based on what the first episode established as the premise, but I was kind of hoping it would be. Wouldn't that be an awesome twist?

And Nobunaga takes Ieyasu's treasure at the end of the episode and they seem to part ways. But Ieyasu is clearly going to be a major character, or it sure seems like it in the OP/ED, so what's going to bring them back together?

Oh yeah, and the boring male guy from last episode was nowhere in sight, so yeah, its looking like Fencedude was right and he really isn't coming back or at least not in any significant way. It wouldn't surprise me for him to make an appearance again at some point though.

Tokugawa Ieyasu becomes an idol! Why? BECAUSE WHY NOT!?

Really cute episode all around, and I'm glad Ieyasu decided to stay.

The pseudo-anthology format the show is taking is pretty interesting, actually.

Re: Episode 1

Episode 1:

- So this time the character from the historical comes to the modern era, instead of the other way around.
- I don't like the OP song but Nobunaga is delicious.
- But man, the character art in this is rather questionable just a few minutes into the first episode. That doesn't bode well for this being two cour. :sd:
- Burgers... I could totally go for a good cheeseburger right now...
- Nobunaga facing down the robber was pretty funny.
- ...I watched too much Queen's Blade tonight. I was genuinely surprised we didn't see Nobunaga's tits when she was disrobing. Then I remembered most shows aren't Queen's Blade.
- So I finally decided to look up Nobunaga's seiyuu (since she's really fun) and it's Ookubo Rumi. Nice, I get her in both Acchi Kocchi and this role this season.
- Cute kemonomimi miko <3

Well that was a good deal of fun. It's just a shame Brains Base is bringing their D-team as far as animation goes. I like the style, and it looks nice in the OP and ED where the needed time and effort were put into it, but the execution in the episode is subpar to say the least.

But still a lot of fun. On to Ieyasu!

Episode 2:

- Hanazawa Kana <3
- Is this singer they're pushing someone real?
- Oh god Ieyasu is so adorable. She just wants to dance. <3
- Poor Ieyasu. The world of the idol is cruel.

- Haha, Ieyasu got scouted. Ieyasu, meet Producer-san.
- Stupid voice teacher made Ieyasu-chan cry. ;_;
- Also, wtf, what kind of show has much better animation in its second episode? Everything so far this ep has been way way better than Nobunaga's episode. There has to be a major staff difference between them (but I'm too lazy to look to up).

- Haha awesome, the kemonomimi miko are her backup dancers. Usagi-miko reminds me fo a green-haired Mugi.
- Huh, who the heck is voicing Rosary? I'll need to check the credits, ANN and MAL and Wiki don't list anything and she's not on the official website.
- ::checks credits:: 寺崎裕春 = doesn't exist on google, uh, I guess she's not a known seiyuu.

Woah. That... was remarkably good. Ieyasu resolves to stay in the modern era and conquer the world as an idol! Go go Ieyasu!

Next time... yuri? Am I reading that preview right? Oh I really hope so.

Ah damnit, didn't look closely enough when selecting the kanji. Sometimes using very small font sizes can backfire. Looks like I don't really know much about her anyway though. She hasn't done anything major I remember.
