What US Anime Releases Did You Get? (September 2012)

It's a new month, which means a new one of these monthly threads. You know the drill by now, so I don't have to explain. As for me, what I get will depend on whether the Funimation sale at RSI happens this month or not.

I only have one video release on order with TRSI, and I hesitate to include it in the thread because it's the Fate/Zero BD import...

If TRSI has a worthwhile sale in the 2nd half of this month, maybe that'll change. There are one or two releases later this month that I've got a slight amount of interest in, but I don't know when I'd buy them (if I'll buy 'em at all).

Just won an eBay auction for Texhnolyze "Limited Edition". It's the 6 singles with the artbox from Geneon. Vol. 6 is still sealed. Pretty pleased as I won it for $29.05 o/

Other than that, Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu arrived on Friday, Nadesico has been shipped and Steins;Gate Part 1 LE is on pre-order!

I also checked out eBay and am currently bidding $22 (!!) for the Baccano DVD Boxset, the four singles and the artbox, bidding ends in a day! I may also double dip and buy the Blu-ray set later.

Anyways, what I bought:
Big Windup! Part 1 and 2 (pretty much OOP everywhere), honestly I really love this show and doesn't get enough love and rather not buy the complete version with that ugly SAVE banner. Got this on eBay for $28.90.
Steins;Gate Blu-ray/DVD LE Part 1
(Got Anime Membership)

What I'm planning on buying:
Bunny Drop: Premium Edition
TBD

Saving some $$$ for JP imports. Still undecided on what to import...

Soon enough, I will get:

The World God Only Knows II - Complete Collection

I sure will remember this release for a long time. Why? Because this is the last US release I will ever buy. It was a hard decision to take; it took me weeks before taking the final decision. There is couple of reasons for me to buy a show, first it’s to help the Japanese companies involve, second it’s to do my part and hope for a second season, third it’s because I’m a collector and fourth it’s because I want to rewatch the series on my TV. From now on, I want to keep 100% of my money that I have available for anime and buy directly from Japan.

This sure feels weird… It last from June 2006 to September 2012. I bought a total of 865 releases (1358 discs). Good bye US companies, it was a fun ride. Thank you for giving me so many hours (so many hours that I can count them in days!) of entertainment.

It's not hard at all to drop titles from Funi and ADV, since they're nearly-always barebones, but I am surprised that you're giving up on the great releases from Aniplex, NISA and Nozomi, since we generally get quality products with lots of extras from them. Nozomi is about the only company (perhaps an old Discotek title or two that interests me) that I'll keep buying DVDs from, though.

Maybe I haven't looked at enough of the shows from this current season, but of what I've seen, I find myself only interested enough in two (perhaps a third, but I'm really uncertain about it) of them to import them. Maybe I'm being too picky? I may do without the others entirely, or if I've got a minor level of interest in seeing one or two of them again, I may purchase a US BD release.

How have you been watching your DVDs and BD until now, if you aren't using your TV? I can't imagine always watching anime on a computer monitor, which may just mean that I need a more comfortable chair at the computer. I think that I've had a computer hooked up to TVs for at least a decade so far (starting with an Athlon-based desktop tower outputting via S-video, progressing to a few Mac Minis for fansubs and, later, streaming), along with a DVD player or two and then PS3.

I'm still willing to concede a small portion of my spending to US companies who do a good job, but imports from Japan make up most of my purchases. Few, if any, of the Japanese companies include large-format books like NISA's with their releases.

You've been converted to the Church of something. ^^

Aniplex: Well, if I don't get the JP BDs from one of their series, I would not be willing to pay for a US release. For example, I already have Bake JP BDs and I still have to decide about SAO, if I decide not to import SAO, I would not want to get the US version either.

Nozomi: They still didn't release BDs.

NISA: I have to admit it was the one I was the most hesitant about... But, decided that I wanted to stop completely buying US releases...

Well, of course I watch US releases on my TV, but it would be the only reason I would still buy US releases... which is far from enough.

Since Netflix and Itunes I have no need to get more dvds that take up space. I still buy some once in awhile, but lately not really. The prices are drastically different too, I guess because it takes more money to process into a dvd.
