New UK Anime Distribution Company Launching in 2013

Andrew Partridge speaks about forthcoming company distributing anime on home, cinema and digital formats.

A new anime distribution company is due to launch in 2013, set up by Andrew Partridge of Kaze UK and Scotland Loves Anime. The name of the new anime label is not confirmed yet, although the underlying company is called Anime Limited. It will release anime on home and digital formats, and also in cinemas. ANN conducted an interview with Partridge about the new company, available here.

On TV anime, Partridge says his goal is to "take a select number of archive and new titles and elevate them to a Criterion-style release." For cinema releases, his aim is "to develop a theatrical market for Japanese animation over the next five or six years."

Partridge cannot confirm any specific anime titles at this stage, but says he will start "talking content" in early January. He says that, “For film, I have some nice surprises over the next few months. For TV, I have two contracts signed on my desk and a ton more on their way." The first home releases are likely to be in the late second quarter of 2013, Partridge says.

The label's website will be launched in January. For now, it will have an online presence at the following places:

Erm, Criterion style releases, sounds good to me. Too many anime releases here in Europe are pretty bland, so any company aiming for quality releases with a bit of fluff is very welcome.

I wish them the best of luck.

I'm curious to know how connected if at all this is to any companies in France. Some of the french releases of shows look very classy even to their american counterparts (assuming there is one).

In fact completely off topic but i would advise not searching anime on amazon.fr as it a real bummer. I mean they get practically everything. Barely any of it is expensive. Their is tons of Classic shows from the 80 and 70s. They get everything on Blu Ray as they are in Zone B. Its an Anime fans dream on their and none of it has English subs of course. I wish i could speak fluent french.

Starting with - do we plan to do Blu-ray releases? The answer to this is yes wherever material that is HD-worthy is available. It's on a case-by-case basis - but our first license will have a Blu-ray release ;).

We have a keen interest in high definition formats and see them as an essential for a label like us as Andrew explained in the ANN interview.

Welcome to Anime Ltd

Hello everyone and welcome to a holding site for Anime Limited! We’re in the process of putting together a lot more features and some final touches to our design elements but we wanted to make sure people had somewhere they could be kept up to date of what we were doing.

More importantly – half the fun of being a startup company is being able to show you a bit more of what we’re up to. So not just press releases or pushing for sales but actually talk through the processes we have to go through here to bring you anime.

Here are few of the changes you can expect over the next few months to this site barring aesthetic ones:

- Theatrical listings for any films we are doing.

- Digital links – so places you can get our content plus friends content online officially.

- Pre-orders – we’ll centralise pre-orders for new titles on the site too for folks.

In the meantime – we’ll be getting some more blogs up of interest for folks too and will be updating you with new details of our releases shortly!
