FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RIGHT STUF, Inc. Acquires
SPACE ADVENTURE COBRA: The Original TV Series

Nozomi Ent. to release classic anime on DVD in late 2013.

GRIMES, Iowa, Jan. 15, 2013 – Anime producer and distributor Right Stuf, Inc. is excited to announce the acquisition of the original SPACE ADVENTURE COBRA television series from TMS ENTERTAINMENT CO., LTD.

Space Adventure Cobra: The Original TV Series will be released via Right Stuf’s Nozomi Entertainment as two DVD sets, starting in late 2013, along with digital distribution. The upcoming home video release will mark the first time the anime TV series will be available to North American audiences.

Additionally, Nozomi Entertainment wants fans’ questions for an upcoming Q&A interview with Buichi Terasawa, the creator of Cobra. Please submit questions, via the form located at the official series site (cobra.rightstuf.com), by 4 p.m. CT on Fri., Feb. 15, 2013.

Right Stuf’s President and CEO Shawne Kleckner said, “Cobra is a frequently requested title for a reason. Its mix of science fiction, action and adventure is what attracted so many of us to anime in the first place, and it is truly a privilege to bring the television series to North America.”

Deputy Manager of TMS Entertainment USA, Inc. Katsuki Masai said, “The Cobra television series has been immensely popular for years, but this is the very first time it will be released as DVDs and digitally in the United States and Canada. It is our wish that North America’s anime fans enjoy this series as much as sci-fi fans in Japan have.”

One of Japan’s most influential sci-fi/action series, Cobra tells the story of a far-off future where one man – (literally) armed with a psycho-gun – and his android companion are all that stand between the human race and a ruthless criminal organization of space pirates.

Space Adventure Cobra is based upon the best-selling manga (comic) by Buichi Terasawa (Goku: Midnight Eye), which was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump anthology and later collected into 18 volumes. In addition to the 1980s television adaptation, it inspired a feature film, two direct-to-video anime series (2008-2009) and a 2010 anime TV series, as well as three manga sequel series (also written by Terasawa).

This 31-episode television adaptation of Cobra originally aired on Japanese television, from October 1982 through May 1983. It features animation by TMS ENTERTAINMENT CO., LTD.,as well as direction by Osamu Dezaki (The Rose of Versailles, Golgo 13: The Professional).

Re: TRSI / Nozomi Ent. licenses ???

I wonder if this is the one he thinks we'll be surprised by. I'm sure it won't be CCS or LOGH, but I'll see what's in store anyway.

Considering the last two of these, I'll have my eye out with great interest.

I wonder if this can be the first Nozomi Blu-ray release.

Re: TRSI / Nozomi Ent. licenses ???

Can you imagine if this was CCS or LoGH. Like how amazing would that be. Either way Nozomi are now just for classic shows right so we can expect something really cool to get licensed.

Maybe Maison Ikkoku (altho i already own the Viz Sets) would be cool for all those who don't.

Touch would be a cool show but its baseball theme probably wouldn't make it a big seller.

I'll be out when this is announced doing two exams but it will be a cool thing to come back too : D

If it is CCS, I definitely hope they would sell a lot of copies. I would be really surprise if this was CCS...

Guess I'll wish for Nagasarete Airantou 'til the end of time, since I'm not giving up! :p

Re: TRSI / Nozomi Ent. licenses ???

Things I'd love to see from Nozomi:

-Legend of the Galactic Heroes
-Card Captor Sakura
-Gunbuster

However, I don't think any of these titles will be the licensed properties announced. LoGH is a pipe-dream given its apparent and absurd price-tag, CCS is likely to be licensed sometime, but I think whoever gets it would wait for a more major time/season/convention to announce it, and Gunbuster probably won't be a Nozomi title due to Discotek licensing Diebuster.

Nevertheless, Nozomi has great taste in its acquisitions, and I'll more than likely be happy about what they announce.

Edit: Upon further consideration, I will bet money on Inferno Cop - the fiery new hit of 2013! Yep...definitely.

Given what this company has licensed recently, I am thinking that it will probably be for something that aired in the 20th century. I'm hoping for something great.
