Re: [US] Squid Girl

I'm not surprised; Amazon will only let you push a title back for so long until they pretty much tell you to where to stick it. You have to please Amazon or you'll lose a pretty big chunk of...

Re: [US] Dream Eater Merry

What's with the giant black bar on the left side? Does whatever NLE setup they're using not allow cropping? Geez.

Re: Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo boxsets

Multi-pass encoding is (or should be, anyway) pretty basic stuff; you simply punch in your minimum, maximum, and desired average bitrate. The encoder then makes a "dummy" pass through the video,...

Re: Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo boxsets

The knowledge that multi-pass DVD encoding isn't standard in 2012 is a depressing thought indeed...

Re: Madoka Magica, Vol.1 (Blu-ray / DVD, Reg / LE)

Something "extra", whatever that may be.

Nobody knows how special it'll be (or even if it'll materialize for sure yet), but this is more or less the same kind of deal that got us that lovely Utena...

Re: [US] Strike Witches (Season 2)

Let me get this straight: They cancelled the BD combo set because they're waiting for pre-upscaled HD masters when they could have just upscaled the Digibetas they already had?

Priceless. :)

Re: [US] Strike Witches (Season 2)

If it helps any, the JP release for S1 was an upscale.

Re: [US] Baccano!

For those who missed it on TRSI, the Bandai Store (http://store.bandai-ent.com/category_s/178.htm) still has it listed - better hurry though, as it's shutting down for good on the 29th!

Re: [US] X'amd: Lost Memories

I think only FMP: TSR has the frame-drop issues. The JP release doesn't, but it's encoded at 1080i, which is the only way to preserve the original 30fps OP footage... kind of a damned if you do...

Re: Sentai Filmworks announces license of ICE

Well, it would make perfect sense that ICE: THE MOVIE and ICE: THE OVA would be completely different licenses, even if they're (essentially) the same thing...

If Sentai passed on it, what's to stop...

Re: [US] K-On!

While the audio issues didn't help anything, yeah, I'm sure the number of crazy people (like me) who gave up after Vol. 1 are a minority next to the people who would have never bought the show to...

Re: [US] K-On!

I agree, but only to a point: The price for the Madoka Magica RE looks close at a glance ($150 vs $130), but it only holds up if we ignore the episode count and typical retailer discounts. You could...

Re: [US] K-On!

True enough, but Madoka Magica is also being sold as a premium product with a substantially higher MSRP than K-On! ever had. I can't imagine the actual sales numbers for Madoka Magica will be...

Re: Madoka Magica, Vol.1 (Blu-ray / DVD, Reg / LE)

I pretty much knew my wallet was doomed to eternal suffering the moment they said "Booklet and CD". Still, I held out hope that the package would irk me in some way just enough to save about a...

I think my confusion must be rooted in the fact that the US promo images...

Re: [us] R.o.d. Tv + Ova

Really? Are you sure they didn't lock the commentaries out and such via the player's language settings, like Bandai Visual did on the Gunbuster vs Diebuster set? I was pretty sure Baccano! were the...

Re: [us] R.o.d. Tv + Ova

No problem - I tend to forget that not everyone keeps tabs on which US releases are ports of JP editions. The import release is quite literally the exact same thing - same box, same discs - except...

Re: [us] R.o.d. Tv + Ova

This is a 1:1 copy of the Japanese box set at about half the retail price, and no film elements exist to remaster the show any harder than an upscale can provide.

Forget the state of anything - I...

Re: Can someone explain me what happened?

No. There is absolutely no negative aspect to using lossless. The fees associated with DTS-HD MA are negligible. PCM audio has no related fees, but it's not usually used for 5.1 tracks because it's a...

Re: How much Hentai is really available on BLURAY ?

Legend of the Overfiend: The Movie is still all that's out there as of this moment - well, unless you count expensive and censored JP imports, of which there's still only a handful.

Re: [US] Squid Girl

Wow. 3 months after saying "What, on Blu-ray? Nah, don't see than happening..." and releasing the first part of the show on DVD, they solicit one anyway? That's totally not a dick move.

But, I guess...

Re: [18+ / US] Kite

Who knows? Maybe the plan was always to obscure the footage in some way, and the trailer wasn't censored because the footage was just a work in progress? It's easy to forget, what with all those...
