Re: playback issues

Just buy the Nanoha BD from Japan - it has English subs. Problem solved.

Re: [JP] Rurouni Kenshin OVAs / Film

They either transcribed it from the dub audio (which ADV had given them), or used the dub script.

Re: [JP] Rurouni Kenshin OVAs / Film

The subtitles can still be dubtitles, as as that's what they used for the previous release.

I am very happy that it's confirmed that it's not an upscale, at least in the traditional sense - if they...

Re: [JP] Rurouni Kenshin OVAs / Film

It should be mentioned that the R2 DVDs had the English dub included, and also dubtitles for it, so there's a remote chance those might be included.

Re: [JP] Cardcaptor Sakura movie 1&2

Same release as the R2 DVDs, so pretty barebones - trailers, Kero-chan ni Omakase and 8-page booklets for each movie. Cover art isn't as good as the original release IMO, but that won't stop me from...

Re: Hirano Aya appeared in a mainstream TV show

I don't like Wada either, but then I'm not supposed to. She's really there for a much older audience. She also has a secondary role in that she's meant to create a contrast - you can't have all...

Re: Hirano Aya appeared in a mainstream TV show

LOL - guess Wada didn't remember the lessons she got! Incidentally, Shoko-tan's done a lot better to find her niche on Japanese TV IMO.

Re: Hirano Aya appeared in a mainstream TV show

I watched it, and that was no big deal at all. If anything it's the 2channers that are overreacting, or something Sankaku Complex would say. Wada didn't exactly dismiss Hirano IMO - at worst it was a...

Re: Hirano Aya appeared in a mainstream TV show

Which show? And by Wada, do you mean Wada Akiko?

Re: [JP] Rurouni Kenshin OVAs / Film

There was a lot more than that. Large parts of it was even partially rotoscoped - you could see the original scene in gaps. We also don't know what kind of masters they have - it's quite possible...

Re: [JP] Rurouni Kenshin OVAs / Film

Now the real question is, upscale, or what?

Re: [JP] Ghost in the Shell S.A.C Solid State Society - Another Dimension (rel-date: 07/22/11)

According to the trailer, it seems only the opening has new content, but all 3D will work in 2D regardless.

Personally I just ordered my first 3D capable setup (laptop, but still), so looking...

Re: [US] Moribito Guardian of the Spirit

Right, just saying that setup does impact how something looks and can hide bad encoding to a certain degree. The rest is subjective.

Re: [US] Moribito Guardian of the Spirit

Create, no, but hide? Certainly. The quality of deblocking filters designed to reduce compression artifacts varies for instance. Calibration can hide or make artifacting more apparent, depending on...

Re: How good *are* "idol" seiyuu as actors and singers?

It varies a lot. On the one hand, some of the singing performances of seiyuu I wouldn't call acceptable outside of otaku fandom. On the other, voice acting does require a certain degree of voice...

Re: If I order an Alienware PC, will that mean I fail at life?

For desktops, Alienware are rather a waste IMO. You get a fast computer, sure, but it's also noisy and for that amount of money you could get a prebuilt silent computer from...

Re: (US) Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind

No they don't - they use 6500K, same as everyone else. While something to that effect was said as an attempt to excuse for the tint in SA, the tint on that didn't even match 9300K. None of their...

Re: Questions about Japanese porn.

No, I'm lying because no one has consensual sex in Japan - it's all rape .

Re: Questions about Japanese porn.

1. It's required by law for adult videos sold to the domestic Japanese market. The international versions are of course uncensored.

2. You're watching the wrong videos.

Re: list of BD anime upconverted from 720i

I haven't been following this for a while - have they really stopped with the 720i stuff? And is it really just those shows you mentioned in your top post?

(I could have sworn I've seen mentions of...
