Re: Sentai Filmworks licenses Kurenai

"Today, Sentai has licensed nearly all of Japan. Funi will have to settle for Okinawa."

Re: FUNimation Sues A.D. Vision, Sentai, Others for US$8 Million

Correct. The market crashed and ADV had 30 shows that also weren't selling very well. Remember, they were selling them as singles, and Funi was dropping singles and going to sets in this same time...

Re: FUNimation Sues A.D. Vision, Sentai, Others for US$8 Million

No...ADV entered into an agreement with Sojitz, and they "invested" 20 million dollars or so and created ARM to use (most of that?) that money and acquire shows that ADV would then market in the...

Re: Media Blasters lays off 60% of its staff

No it isn't.

Sentai - Thriving (how else are they licensing everything under the sun?)
Funi - Thriving. Hell, they've got a huge license backlog.
Nozomi - Quiet right now, but they've got their...

Re: Bandai Entertainment to Stop Releasing New DVDs, BDs, Manga

Worked great during the boom, and when you had insane hits like Cowboy Bebop, that sadly set the stage for future stupidity.

I recall a Bandai employee (at a con) straight out saying BV-USA was...

Re: Bandai Entertainment to Stop Releasing New DVDs, BDs, Manga

K-On! is a good example. Makes me wonder if the licensors that Bandai dealt with were more stubborn since, when you look at what is released (very simple observation), it looks like Funi and Sentai...

Re: Judge Orders Hold on U.S. Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime License

And allow 4Kids time to respond to the allegations as per the licensing agreement.

The Consortium got lazy lawyers, and this is the result.

Re: Bandai Entertainment to Stop Releasing New DVDs, BDs, Manga

I was troubled, yet not so shocked to see this happen.

Lots of folks voted with their pocketbooks when it came to the later singles releases that Bandai put out, particularly the ones crippled due...

Re: The Girl Who Leapt Through Space, Vol.4

How?[/QUOTE]

- No Picture Dramas (same concept as the ones done for My HiME). Nine total with the R2 DVD's.

- TV version of the first(?) episode, rather than the DVD version.

Bandai lamely claimed...

Re: A&E Video acquires DVD rights to Robotech: The Original Series

Damn. My enthusiasm is now muted...I'll still get it, but no real urgency.

Re: A&E Video acquires DVD rights to Robotech: The Original Series

While I can find most of the original singles volumes (and the box), the thinpack is nowhere to be found. Glad I got that when I did...

At ~$250 a pop, the Animeigo boxset was a hardcore fan...

Re: A&E Video acquires DVD rights to Robotech: The Original Series

Robotech kinda fits that last criteria to a T.

Probably will be even cheaper at DD or Amazon.

Re: SDCC 2011 Discussion Thread

Agreed. I suspect they would get far more goodwill from fans by running a second batch of the OOP Dragon Box releases, rather than a "Remastered from the Remaster that was done from the Original...

Re: TRSI / Nozomi Ent. Acquires Original Dirty Pair movie/OVAs, Dirty Pair Flash, Gasaraki, Nadesico (TV/movie), Gekiganger 3

I'm in a state of shock here. It's amazing to see a company rep not only respond but ask for clarification on R2 release details so that they know they're getting things right.

Yeah, it's Nozomi and...

Re: Average anime animator salaries

And even with the slave-labor wages, they're still outsourcing a good chunk of animation duties to other countries like Korea and Taiwan.

I suspect the animators there are likely paid better, too.

Re: Aniplex Ships Rurouni Kenshin OVA/Film BDs in Japan, U.S. on Same Day

I consider Honneamise's first releases of Patlabor 1&2 to have been absolutely perfect, and well worth the money.

But then they screwed with Gunbuster. Bad idea, that. All that goodwill generated...

Re: Media Blasters update: Record of Lodoss War & an upcoming "really big" anime title?

It is terribly worded. You'd think that they would proofread their statement before just banging the damn thing out.

Maybe they mean the DVD that's been out forever in Japan is what they'll be...

Re: [dannychoo.com] Anime Industry - How to Recuperate Costs?

I would think that licensed R3 releases (of which the packaging and quality is really close to R2) would be more of a RI fear than the average R1 release.
