It's totally understandable while they cut that out, I agree, but it does lose a bit of the slowly escalating horror as you realize Oda's totally gone off the rails.

I saw it, and it was subbed. Thought it was dubbed when it started out, though, since they hired some fairly competent English speakers for the intro dialogue.
