There are some Sony 24" wide monitors that were sold in the US and Japan earlier this decade that can display up to 2304x1440. I'm tempted to get one but they go for $500+ used and I watch mostly 4:3 anime anyways.
Edit: And since most (all?) CRT monitors don't support digital connections or HDCP, you'd have to get something that can take the 1080i analog signal from a BD or HD DVD player (even without the ICT, none output full 1080p over analog) and convert it to a VGA analog signal. Something like a DVDO VP50 video processor, which goes for $2500-$3000 new. Not an easy or inexpensive option, but I don't think there are many other options for watching 1080p on a CRT.
