Various nudity and faint nipples (or suggestion of nipples) obscured, removed, or faded from various volumes (more info to come). In recent chapters, the clan's curse mark on Neji's forehead has been changed to an "~X~" instead of the original manji sign (often confused with the swastika), but this edit was undone for the graphic novel release of volume 12 along with a note explaining that it wasn’t a swastika. Reprinted volumes starting with volume 1 are now having middle fingers removed, possible other edits as well.
Since when did this happen? This is terrible news! I bought the wooden boxset back at Christmas 2007, I wonder if it contains these new edits. I guess there's no way to know whether or not you have a new printing either, seeing as it's not technically a new edition, unless a new edition is what the author of this thread means. My idea of ever having an uncensored version of Naruto released in English is never going to come true at this rate.

EDIT: Also, a question: is Gyo totally safe to go out and buy? I'm doing a manga haul and I want to pick up the 2nd editions of Gyo (and damn do I want to get the Black Lagoon manga, but I might just wait until the current 8 volumes are out).
These updated reprints were some time ago; it's probably safe to say anything coming out at this point would be suspect if it was one of those gone back and changed. It is worth noting some changes in the magazine are undone for the GN releases. I'll be honest here: I stopped paying attention. It's Naruto, the new big thing, and that's just the way it's going to be.

Re: GYO - I highly doubt there is anything edited in the new editions. There was nothing to edit in the OLD ones.
Thanks for the information, I don't quite know what I was thinking when I bought that Naruto boxset, it was such a tease product, and right next to Christmas as well, now I'm stuck with it... at least it's pretty.

That's good news for Gyo, I couldn't remember the name of that other series from Ito that has 2nd editions at the same time, found that it was Uzumaki, and I'll get that as well because I'm pretty sure Viz will have treated it the same as Gyo, and forum searches don't turn up any editing discussions on it (couldn't search for Gyo unfortunately because of the more than 3 letter word search rule). I really hope Viz release a boxset for Monster when volume 18 comes out too!

EDIT: I see Uzumaki 1st edition was flipped but the 2nd edition is right-to-left again, which is fantastic! And no problems with Gyo there either. It wouldn't have been nice to get burnt by these releases ala Tekkonkinkreet.

EDIT 2: (I don't know why I'm posting this here, but anyway) So my Viz orders now are Zombie Power 1-4, which as far as I can tell is unedited content wise, except one of the covers was changed the from Japanese version, which isn't a major problem. And I'm removing Black Lagoon 1-3 (to wait and see if any subsequent volumes are censored), and Death Note hardcover version, because I don't know if those will just be a one-off for volume 1, I'll get the Death note manga boxset after I watch the anime I think. I'm adding the Bleach and One Piece artbooks though, and the first volume of Bleach in hardcover, because it's uncensored, and the Vagabond VizBigs, because they're awesome. I'll wait to see if any reprintings of the Rurouni Kenshin VizBigs will add the missing colour pages before I buy them, and if they don't I'll just cut my losses and buy them because I loved the Kenshin OVAs and want to read this story and the likelihood of them being released in full colour anytime soon is doubtful.

EDIT 3: Because I absolutely adore Yen Press, their ethics, and most importantly (actually equally importantly) their titles (Square Enix + more FTW), I'm going to pump all that left over money straight into the majority of Yen Press' titles, it's ever so exciting! It really is incredibly exciting buying manga from a publisher like Yen Press, I just hope they don't let me down after I invest so much in them.
