Did not know this - although I wouldn't say that not knowing this changed my interpretation of any scenes thus far.
Certainly the anime has not tried hard to depict it as turn-based, probably because it would ruin the pace of action. I'm trying to think of possible exceptions... that first training fight against the boar, perhaps? Or the durability loss trick? All the rest have been played off as happening in real time, especially
the PvP, which has gotten the most detailed combat depictions.
I guess if anything, a lot of the fights as depicted in the show would make less sense to me if they were supposed to be turn-based, so it's probably better I wasn't expecting turn-based.
I'd call dropping any (obvious, at least) turn-based mechanics an improvement, at least for the conversion to anime.
