I kind of get where you're coming from, but I personally don't think that argument works.
Since you're comparing one series that has an adaptation based off the original work to a series which has works that are separate identities from each other. (plus the NGE manga happened first, so one could argue it being the "original work") |
Most people tend to think of the show rather than than the manga since it was so huge as a show, and ultimately saved Gainax.
