Yeah, that's more or less how I feel. Those producing the Japanese commentaries were involved in the creation of the show, whether as cast or crew, while the English-speakers are generally just _there_. IIRC, the ADV commentary for an episode of Le Chevalier d'Eon provided historical context info, which is about the only useful sort of thing that the American companies might be able to do with a commentary. That, or find someone who is really knowledgeable about a franchise or its background/context, like it sounds ?Funi? did with some part of Hetalia (I'm going off of vague memories of a few comments that I saw for that one, since I have no interest in the series, so maybe that was an extra, rather than a commentary).
