Note the "current implementation" bit. There was a newer version of the HDMI standard released in may 2004, and I've yet to hear of any equipment using the specification to its fullest. Until then however, HDMI right now is just DVI+audio. Any extra functionality added by a manufacturer is not necessarily a part of the HDMI standard. The pins and signalling may the same for some functions, but that's more a result of convenience (it's easier to implement component and RGB on the same pins for instance than setting up separate ones) than one of compliance design.
EDIT: Guess I typed too soon [img]/images/graemlins/happy.gif[/img]. The new panasonic S97 appears to support HDMI 1.1. Now you just need the other components that use it too.
