FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SENTAI FILMWORKS ANNOUNCES
LICENSE of “MARDOCK SCRAMBLE”

HOUSTON, June 20, 2011—Sentai Filmworks today announced the licensing of MARDOCK SCRAMBLE, a spectacular new trilogy of animated features based on the original novel by Tow Ubukata (Le Chevalier D’Eon.) An ultraviolent new franchise in which a murdered girl is transformed into a cybernetic grim reaper, the first film in the series will be directed by Susumu Kudo (He Is My Master, Mirage of Blaze) from screenplays by Ubutaka himself and with character designs by Jun Nakai (Sacred Blacksmith, Tokyo Majin) and Shingo Suzuki (Princess Lover.)

To stop the unstoppable you need the irresistible. To kill the unkillable, you need someone for whom death no longer has a meaning. And to catch the perfect serial killer, you need the one person who knows his methods the best… his last victim! Murdered and reborn, no longer human, the female cyborg named Balot exists for only one reason – to track down the man who killed her and bring him to justice. But can even the ultimate hybrid between ghost and machine take down a monster who wipes his own memory… especially when HIS partner already has HER in his sights? The future will be painted blood red as vengeance hit the streets in MARDOCK SCRAMBLE!

MARDOCK SCRAMBLE: THE FIRST COMPRESSION, the first film in the new hit series, will be available this September in both English dubbed and English subtitled versions on DVD and via digital retailers. A Blu-Ray version is planned for 2012 release.

I'm sure it's because of the upcoming JP release on 8/24/2011.

At least they told us that a blu-ray is coming.

If I really like cyberpunk stuff, do you think that I'd like this film? It seems like I would.

After having read the novel (translated by Viz), I'm left wondering if the entire second movie will be about watching the characters play cards in the casino. That was a big chunk of the novel. ^^;

I'll likely get the Blu-ray. Although I'm kinda dissapointed FUNi didn't get Mardock Scramble, as they probably would've given it a theatrical release. Oh, well.

That is definitely a valid concern (although didn't the gambling stuff span the second and third novels?). The trailer for the second movie focusses more on the stuff in Eden or whatever that place was called.

It's been a while since I read the novel. Viz published Mardock Scramble as one big book, and I don't quite remember exactly where the casino parts took place overall. ^_^

That sounds promising. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

It's strange that Germany gets a Blu-ray in December. Theys also screened it here at a convention and is well done, but could use some additional scenes because some scene changes were slightly confusing.
